Review: Detectives Darren Corliss and Andreas Ruffner are back, and badder than ever. These boys are in so much trouble, a bit of carryover from book one dogs them heavily in this installment. They can never seem to catch a break, or a breath, before the next major drama falls on their heads, or in their laps. Literally. It’s gotta suck to be hated equally by criminals and your own so-called police “brotherhood”. Darren and Andreas are now blacklisted for putting away a few crooked cops…but it doesn’t matter that these men were truly dirty, because the fallout affected cops’ families and that’s a no-no. That code of silence is real and their “brothers” have not forgotten, nor forgiven, them. In fact, they are now forced to watch their own backs.
The mystery involving a cold-case serial killer was really well written. Even though we kinda know who the bad guy is, the point in this book was trying to get the proof needed to stop him from killing again, and put him away. That is all fine and good as long as you are not getting hit with roadblocks from with the department. And you are not trying to recover from being stabbed, from book one. Andreas and Darren are trying so hard to be good cops and build a relationship, too, but the world seems to be conspiring to make their lives hell. Darren still has the added stress of his brother’s early-onset Alzheimer’s which is progressing faster and faster. Darren is concerned he may have the same gene and is worried the impact that would have on Andreas. And Andreas’ HIV status is now out, his daughter now knows he’s Bi and Positive, and seriously, can’t these guys have one thing go right for them?
This is a great series. I am already looking forward to seeing how the drama unfolds in Reckless Behavior. If you love bad boys but good cops, family drama, violence, and no drag time, then I suggest you give this series a try. It is never boring and though this one was a little tame on the sexy times, they are still recovering, Darren and Andreas are both hot together and keep me coming back for more.
