Blurb: A few months after his brother’s accident, Jesse Brody can’t stop thinking about Troy Evans, the police office that helped solve the case. Even though Troy almost had to arrest him, Jesse is sure he has a shot at a date.

The two meet by chance and share a nice dinner at Jesse’s apartment, which ends with Jesse all over Troy’s lap. Though he isn’t out at work, Troy agrees to give a relationship with Jesse a chance. Everything is fine, until the two are seen in public together by some of Troy’s coworkers.

Out of panic, Troy ends the relationship. Of course he regrets his decision, but it will take more than just an apology to win Jesse back.

Review:

I just recently read and enjoyed Shoes & Ties, which is book one of this series. (My review here.)  Lumber & Law is about Ashten’s twin bother, who falls for the closeted police officer also introduced in the first book.

Jesse Brody has been sitting on the same park bench every Sunday for the last six months just to get a glimpse of the hot runner with the golden retriever…officer Troy Evans.  The two men actually met once, three months ago when Ashten had a little trouble with his boyfriend’s crazy stalker.

Through canine intervention, Jesse and Troy finally meet again and Jesse convinces Troy that they should date.  The problem: Troy is still in the closet and has no plans to ever come out.  The fact that Jesse has never been with a man is pretty much a non-issue.  They agree to keep their relationship secret, but how long will Jesse be able to live like that?  He wants what his brother has.

This was a decent read for me, although I liked the first book better.  I really wanted to see Jesse get his HEA and have another glimpse at Asthen and Trent.  The sex was decently smexy and Jesse and Troy were good together until Troy started freaking out about the chances of getting outed.

So, that brings me to my biggest issue with the story:  Troy changed his mind about coming out way too easily.  Yeah, it caused them to break up for a few weeks, but the whole “outing himself” felt too anticlimactic.

I really loved the ending!  Very sweet. Hope there will be some more books in this series.  Wonder who else is gay?

Overall Impression: It Was Good!

*I purchased my own, personal copy of this book for review.*
