Blurb: Falling for a coworker is rarely a good idea, especially for a man getting a last chance at salvaging his career. But from the moment Dwyer Knolls sees the beautiful but socially awkward Takeo Hiroyuki, he seems destined to make bad decisions.

Takeo’s life is a string of failed attempts to please his traditional Japanese father. Unfortunately, succeeding in business turns out to be just as difficult for Takeo as changing from gay to straight. In fact, the only thing Takeo seems to truly excel at is taking notice of Dwyer Knolls.

When Dwyer and Takeo head to Mangrove, Florida on a real estate buying trip, their tentative friendship combusts and becomes much more. Is their sudden connection real enough to bank their futures on, or should they chalk the whole thing up to the daze inspired by the blue ocean breeze?

Review:

After a corporate restructuring, Dwyer goes from fearing losing his job to suddenly becoming top dog. And with the change means meeting Takeo, which sparks a sudden and understanding friendship. As the years pass, Takeo and Dwyer get closer and while Dwyer wishes for more, Takeo has no idea that the time they spend together means the world to Dwyer. But when Dwyer goes on a business trip with Takeo to Florida, everything Dwyer thought he knew about Takeo’s feelings is about to change.

This was such a sweet story! I absolutely loved Dwyer and Takeo together. Takeo seems like a stick in the mud but he really just finds it hard to understand cultural slang and dialect so ends up taking many jokes and phrases quite literally. But underneath the supposedly hardass and difficult man is an insecure and socially awkward guy that only Dwyer understands and takes the time to get to know. Dwyer is his exact opposite but in Takeo, he finds a kindred spirit. He’s sweet and patient when it comes to Takeo and I loved that they had such a deep friendship when they were such an unlikely pair. Even more than that, I really loved that they were friends for years before anything intimate happened between them.

I really loved this one but I wanted MORE! I loved the slow development between Dwyer and Takeo but I wanted more of them together, to experience them actually going through with their future plans and seeing how all that played out instead of being told about it. I wanted to see them relaxed and more of them outside the job atmosphere. I wanted to see more of them as a COUPLE.

Still, in the end, this was a great little story that left me with a sappy smile on my face. I adored both Dwyer and Takeo and loved that while they were so different, Dwyer was still able to understand Takeo. It’s a sweet, cute story that was well worth the few hours it took to read. If you like Ms. Calmes’ writing then you’ll definitely enjoy this one!

Overall Impression: I really liked it!
