Blurb: It’s hard enough being an inn manager, serving at everyone’s beck and call, making sure all the guests are happy and the employees are paid on time. Add to that being a werewolf, a recovering alcoholic, and a pack leader. Add to that a brother who is trying to tear the pack apart and a dark past he can’t escape. Needless to say, Carl is under a lot of stress. Not helping: Justin, the inn’s human massage therapist—who Carl is trying not to fall for—has offered Carl a massage to “lower his stress levels.” As his boss, Carl can’t tell Justin his hands might lower stress levels, but they would raise something else.
Despite Carl trying to put him off, Justin won’t give in. Carl’s friends won’t leave him alone, and the divisions in the pack are near exploding. And it’s tourist season. The last thing Carl needs are wolf wars in the lobby. Like it or not, Carl is going to have to rely on Justin and the wolves who love him to teach him how to let go and get through everything without falling apart.
Review:
Sometime last year I read my first book by Silvia Violet called Denying Yourself. I’m fairly certain I had no idea what I was in for because, if you know me well, you know that I RARELY read M/M shifter books. But one look at that cover easily explains how I found myself reading it. And you know what? I REALLY liked it! I don’t think that you necessarily have to read it in order to read Pressure Points, but there are a lot of characters running around (it can get confusing) and you will understand pack dynamics a bit better with some background. Anyway, here is my Denying Yourself review in case you are interested.
So now let me talk about Pressure Points. Well, we met Carl in the first book when he fell in love with Shane (the MC), but Shane’s heart always belonged to Matt, his childhood friend. Carl was the Pack Leader and mentor that helped Shane through his battle with alcoholism…having deal with his own fight to stay away from the drink for many years. Carl is also the manager of a vacation hotel up in the mountains, and he can’t keep his eyes off the new summer masseur, Justin…A HUMAN. Justin has lived a nomadic life, traveling across the country taking temporary work. The two couldn’t be more opposite: Carl with all the responsibilities of manager and pack leader, and Justin with all his freedom. Carl, the rabbit killing meat eater, and Justin, the hippie vegetarian. The wolf shifter and the human!
Soon, Carl is no longer just looking and the two men agree to a summer fling. But Carl’s wolf wants more, he wants Justin to be HIS! But Carl is afraid his wolf will be too dangerous to Justin, besides he has too many responsibilities to the hotel and the pack to take on a lasting relationship with a human lover. And Justin is only here for the summer. Right?
This was a very enjoyable follow up to Denying Yourself. I was really looking forward to seeing Carl get his deserved HEA, and Justin is the perfect yin to his yang. Plus the sex between them was HOT and HARD. Yes, there was A LOT of sex…probably a bit TOO much sex… I will just say that I would have liked to have seen more scenes of Carl and Justin that didn’t end with an orgasm…er, multiple orgasms. I felt that the relationship development was a bit rushed and glossed over in order to get to the next sex scene and too much of what I wanted to see was told and not shown.
But even after all the hot sex, the most enjoyable parts for me was everything else happening with the other characters: (yeah, there was a lot going on)
Kevin, the young rescued shifter that wouldn’t talk
Carl’s volatile relationship with his brother Egan
Carl’s friendship with Shane
Egan’s “secret” obsession with Alex
Alex and Egan! Now THAT is a story I can’t wait to read. Please please please don’t make me wait forever.
I recommend this to all those shifter lovers out there.
Overall Impression: I Liked It!
