Blurb: Home from their unexpected deployment, the former members of Marine Force Recon team Sidewinder rejoin their loved ones and try to pick up the pieces of the lives they were forced to leave behind. Ty Grady comes home to Zane Garrett, only to find that everything around him has changed—even the men he went to war with. He barely has time to adjust before his brother, Deuce, asks Ty to be his best man. But that isn’t all Deuce asks Ty to do, and Ty must call for backup to deal with the business issues of Deuce’s future father-in-law.

Nick O’Flaherty and Kelly Abbott join Ty and Zane at the wedding on an island in Scotland, thinking they’re there to assuage Deuce’s paranoia. But when bodies start dropping and boats start sinking, the four men get more involved with the festivities than they’d ever planned to.

With the clock ticking and the killer just as stuck on the isolated island as they are, Ty and Zane must navigate a veritable minefield of family, friends, and foes to stop the whole island from being destroyed.

I was sad when I finished this story, not because I didn’t enjoy it but because I knew there was only one book left in the series and my love affair with Ty and Zane was quickly coming to an end. I just can’t fathom not having another story looming on the horizon, and I know I will be devouring the Sidewinder series in hopes of a Ty and Zane sighting.

With that said, I will reiterate what I say about every Cut & Run story; I love them. I love everything about them and I doubt I will ever find a couple to top these two as my all time favorite MM boyfriends. This book obviously involved a lot more of the guys than just Ty and Zane, almost as if this was a preemptive changing of the guard, or the passing of the torch is starting now. It’s exciting and sad, but it’s also time. Sniff.

This installment opens with Zane and Kelly waiting impatiently for the Sidewinders to return from their deployment. The emotions coming off of Zane while he anxiously scans the crowd looking for his lover is breathtaking. That was one of my favorite scenes and a great way to start this book. There were so many feels during their reunion that I couldn’t keep the smile off my face.

I am also a huge Nick fan. I know many have not forgiven him for stepping on Zane’s toes, many books ago, and kissing Ty but I love that shit. I say bring it baby, the more drama the better. I don’t want vanilla happy-happy-joy-joy when I read about these guys, no way, I want drama and angst and heartfelt emotions and humor and love and forgiveness. I want them to trip over that speed bump, pick each other back up, and then forge a stronger relationship after all the hurt feelings and grief. We get that with these guys, and much more.

My favorite scenes were actually between Ty and Nick. Oh man, they hurt my heart. It was a total heartbreaker watching these two long time, best friends, at odds with each other. It killed me when everyone was ganging up on Ty, and I thought I would die out on that cliff. I knew it wasn’t going to end too badly but my heart was in my throat and I found myself holding my breath, silently telling Nick to drop that damn knife. And then again when they had their little talk at the cliff…I mean, come on man; stand clear of that freakin cliff, jeez!!!

But the feels between Nick and Ty were just so real, so amazing, and then learning more about their pasts just cemented how much I adored them. I cannot imagine them NOT being best friends, ever.

Another favorite was the sex scene in front of fireplace when Ty and Zane were intentionally trying to make noise so that Nick and Kelly could hear them. Now that was funny…and hot. I don’t think these two know how to have anything but hot sex. Lucky bastards.

So like every book in this series, there is also some sort of mystery plot that the boys tend to find themselves smack in the middle of. This one was a little over the top but seriously, I would have never in a million years guessed the real villain. I mean that revelation came from so far out in left field that I was floored. Brilliant twist and now I am terrified of where the final book takes us. There is only one way this guy is going to forever get out of Zane’s life and I am afraid to see how it plays out, excited for it yeah, but afraid nonetheless.

And Liam…that man has me so confused. A part of me thinks he is all lies and secrets, sort of like Ty, but the other part thinks he’s just plain evil. That hospital scene was a nail biter, I thought for sure daddy O’Flaherty was a goner, but bravo Liam…I hope you keep your promise to him, but please leave Nick alone.

So yeah, this was a great story for me. I love Ty and Zane, I love the Sidewinder guys, and I am deeply saddened that it’s all coming to an end. But I am beyond excited that the Sidewinder series is on the horizon and I can’t wait to see where we go from here. Highly recommended.

Overall Impression: I loved it

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher in return for a fair and honest review.*

Great review. The scenes between Ty and Nick are counted among my favourites, too. The scene where they were hanging from that cliff… I was in tears. At that moment I was so much into the story I was sure Nick will stab Ty and fall or that Ty will fall with him and they both die!
I’m sad, too that the story is slowly coming to an end. But I’m sure we’re in for a hell of a ride for book nine. And there’s always the Sidewinder Series.

Great review! I liked many of the same things you did. I’ll be heartbroken when the series is over, but I’m happy to have Sidewinder to keep me going.

  5. Thanks…I love these guys and will be “ball”ing my eyes out when the series ends.
