Blurb: Welcome to Tucker Springs, Colorado: Population, 70-something-thousand. Home to beautiful mountain views, two respected universities, and a ridiculously high cost of living.
Jason Davis can handle a breakup. And an overwhelming mortgage. And a struggling business. And the excruciating pain that keeps him up at night thanks to a shoulder injury. Handling all of it at once? Not so much. When his shoulder finally pushes him to a breaking point, he takes a friend’s advice and gives acupuncture a try.
Michael Whitman is a single dad struggling to make ends meet. When a mutual friend refers a patient, and that patient suggests a roommate arrangement to alleviate their respective financial strains, Michael jumps at the opportunity.
Living together would be easy if Jason wasn’t so damned attracted to Michael. Good thing Michael’s straight, or the temptation might just be too much.
Well, their mutual friend says Michael is straight…
Review:
I thoroughly enjoyed this first installment of the Tucker Springs series and can’t believe I waited so long to pick it up. I was captivated from the beginning and totally fell in love with both Jason and Michael. The flow of the story was perfect for me and I easily fell into the lives of these two struggling men.
Jason and Michael are both under a tremendous amount of financial stress. Jason is under the strain from a recent breakup and being thrust into handling his business and his mortgagee on his own; all while barely being able to move because of the pain resulting from a debilitating shoulder injury that never stops.
Michael’s financial woes come in the form of a recent divorce, shared custody of his son, and trying to make his chiropractor business successful in a high rent district. As you guessed it, Jason becomes one of Michael’s patients. Jason, of course, originally considers Michael no better than a witch doctor and his practice mumbo jumbo, until he gets a good look at the HOT doctor and decides he is willing to let the sexy witch doctor put his hands all over him. And look at that, it works.
Over time, these two become friendly and share stories of their financial woes and decide to become roommates to ease their burdens. The gay nightclub owner and the straight chiropractor; how hard can it get? Well, glad you asked, because Jason is suffering in more ways than his shoulder now. He knows better than to fall for a straight man but damn Michael is everything he ever wanted in a man.
But, Michael has a secret, and Jason figures it out when Michaels overnight guest ends up being a man. Ouch, that hurt. Needless to say, there is a fair amount of angst and hurt feelings but Jason and Michael really are perfect together. It takes a little time, a lot of explanation, and believe me those explanations made sense to me so I was completely on board. Michael is one hot toppy doc for a man who lived his life mostly as a straight man. He was a fast learner in the bedroom and Jason reaped all the rewards.
So yeah, it was a very enjoyable and easy read; and I can’t wait to move on to the next book.
Overall Impression: I really liked it
