Blurb: When Rayce finds he has two paths before him, the unknown consequence is the only alternative to help the man he loves survive.
Rayce is sent on a recon mission to find out if hellhounds are in Lansing. What he discovers on his way is his mate, Peyton, has followed him into the very heart of danger.
Peyton has loved Rayce from the moment Rayce saved him. He knows he probably shouldn’t be following Rayce, but the instinct driving him to protect the man he has already fallen for causes him to go recklessly into the city. All is not as it seems, and Peyton will have to find strength to survive for not only himself but his mate and friends as well.
Authors note: This may be read as a standalone book however for better reading enjoyment, it is adviced to read the series in order. Thank you.
Review:
Firstly, I’d advise not to skip straight to this book because, IMO, you will be a little confused on the world and what’s happening without reading the first two books before this one. This story picks up right where Full Moon Feral leaves off with Rayce and the others assigned to do a little recon of the hellhound Ripley’s said he’s seen before. When they arrive in Lansing, they uncover two things, one, Peyton’s followed them on their mission, unwilling to leave Rayce alone; and, two, the hellhounds are much more organized than they thought when they’re ambushed and captured. Through weeks of torture and no chance of survival, their only hope comes in the unlikely form of one of their enemies…
I really, really liked this one. I felt like it had so much more intensity to it. Rayce and Peyton, along with a few others, spend a few weeks locked up in horrible conditions, starved and beaten to an inch of their life, all at the hands of the hellhounds. So much happens during their time captured including getting to know each other, caring for one another and Rayce finally accepting that he can’t outrun his mating bond anymore. I liked that Rayce was so determined not to force Peyton into his shift, since he still had a few years to go before he was ready but I also liked that Peyton had a unique ability that guided him through certain situations. Their time together in this book is sad because a majority of it is when they’re weak and emotionally damaged. The last half of the story or so, I was literally on the edge of my seat afraid of what might happen next. It was interesting to see it all played out and to see how everyone’s opinions of hellhounds changed. Some for the better, some for the worst… if that makes any sense lol
As with the previous books, I desperately wished this one had been longer! I loved that we got to explore more into the hellhounds and how weird they’ve been acting and I also loved that this one took place outside the Moon Compound, I just really wish we had gotten a meatier story. I would have liked more depth to the characters and the plot. As it was, it’s a good little story that deals with a much darker trope than the previous books. In fact, this one doesn’t have much happy to it until the end or so but I think that’s why I liked it so much, because it had more substance and dealt with more of the horrors around this world than the others did.
In the end, this was a great story. I’m really enjoying how this series is progressing and love that with each new book, we get a glimpse at possible future mates. I liked that we got to experience a different kind of shifter than just the omegas and alphas and it was interesting to see where this story went. I’m looking forward to reading the next book, Full Moon Hellhound, and will definitely be eager to get future stories, as well. If you’re looking for something short, intense and slightly different than the usual shifter story, give this one a try. It just might surprise you 😉
Overall Impression: I really liked it!
