Hello! I want to thank The Blogger Girls for letting me hang out and share my recent release, That’s Who I Am.
An Excerpt from That’s Who I Am
by Jayden Brooks
For the first time, my nose caught a whiff of the delicious aroma of roasting meats and something sweet. My stomach chose that moment to give a plaintive growl. I clutched my belly in surprise and embarrassment. “It smells great. Is her cooking edible?”
Sophie’s smack to the back of my head had me ducking and rubbing the abused spot. “Hey, that wasn’t a gentle tap, brat.” She hit me again. Hard. I leveled a glare at the sassy miss.
Hands on hips, she cocked her hip and wagged a finger in my face. “Watch your mouth about my cooking or you’ll be relying on Donovan.”
Donovan’s deep laughter filled the room. “She’s standing between us and starvation, unless you know how to cook.” His dimples flashed around the whiskers. I wanted to touch them. Lick them.
Clearing my throat, I shrugged. “My mom made sure I could cook the basics.” And there I was, right back to feeling like shit. But how the hell did I avoid ever having a stray thought about my family?
“Well, our Sophie is an aspiring chef, and the basics aren’t part of her repertoire. We shall eat like kings. Unless we piss her off. Then it’s gruel.”
I was horrified. I pissed everyone off. “We’re gonna starve.”
They both burst out laughing. They didn’t realize I’d been on my best behavior so far, censoring my mouth ruthlessly. Lord help us all.
About That’s Who I Am
Jared Winters’s life has been little more than a collection of moments where he didn’t think before opening his mouth. Always a bit different, he’s learned to accept an existence on the outside looking in. But one day, his mouth lands him in a position that nearly costs him his life. Only the timely intervention of Sophie, his twin Conner’s ex-girlfriend, saves him.
Siblings Sophie and Donovan Carrigan step in and offer support, comfort, and a place to call home. Under their care, Jared begins to heal and learns to trust just enough to act on his attraction to Donovan. He just hopes it’s worth the risk.

About Jayden Brooks
Jayden Brooks is a pretty cool chick. Just ask her friends. She’s a woman of great mystery and suspense, but she can’t tell a lie without confessing. She’s fond of gingers, tea, and tales of hot men falling in love with each other—not necessarily in that order. She lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her family, a golden retriever who goes by the name of Mickey, and a cat who wandered in one day and never left. More than anything, she believes that love is love, and everybody deserves a chance at a happily ever after.
You can contact Jayden on her Website, Facebook, Twitter or by email at Jaydenbrooks@outlook.com.
