Blurb: The only good predator is a dead one, as far as Joe Lowther is concerned.
That is until the day he shoots a wolf, only to watch the animal turn into a naked Callum Pope. Cal is being hunted by a group of humans who eradicate shifter packs for sport.
Joe makes a decision to help Cal and discovers a deeper connection with the young shifter. One which he’d like to explore. If they live that long.
It’s been awhile since I’ve read a shifter book, so I had high hopes for the The Last Wolf, the first book in the Sapphire Ranch Wolf series, and I am happy to report that it was exactly what I was looking for, fast and entertaining.
Cal is the omega wolf from his pack and on the run from hunters intent on wiping out shifters. He ends up on Joe’s ranch, and the two immediately form a connection (after a minor hiccup).
This is a pretty quick read, but I still fell easily for the world building and loved both Cal and Joe. You know when you meet really friendly, good-hearted people and know instinctively that they truly are kind and someone you would want to be friends with? Well, that’s Cal and Joe, two men who are handed a crap ton of issues and enlightenments, but work through them together.
I’m almost positive that Milo Clarke will get his story next, and from what I’ve read about him so far, it’s sure to be a doozy. I’m really excited for this series, there are still so many areas left to cover, and that cliffy at the end was pure evil. Evil genius, but it still left me craving an answer to that ending. For Cal’s sake, I hope the news is good.
So yes, I do recommend this new shifter series; it’s a little different, an easy fast read, sweet more than erotic, and comes with a nice little set up for book two. I just hope that it comes out soon, because that ending was a whopper.
Overall Impression: I really liked it!
