Blurb: Up until Travis arrived on his doorstep, Charlie had lived a very solitary life. He had surrounded himself with isolation; a couple million acres of red dirt, scorching sun and loneliness.
Six months on, winter has settled over the desert, and Charlie has the life he never dreamed possible. But living and working together, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, for six months straight starts to take its toll.
Charlie is a stubborn, stubborn man, who tends to have more conversations in his head than what comes out his mouth, whereas Travis has no problem saying what’s on his mind. And even as they both struggle to communicate, struggle to make sense of need versus want, Charlie can see that he’s pushing Travis away – yet seems helpless to stop it.
When it all boils down to whether Travis should stay or go, maybe the decision won’t be theirs to make.
Review: It has been a really long time since I’d read book one, and I was a little concerned that I wouldn’t remember what made Sutton Station, Charlie, Travis, and the rest of the gang so amazing. Fortunately, it was an unfounded fear because I easily fell right back into that red dirt outback and read this installment nearly straight through. Travis and Charlie are still such incredible guys, and with the heart melting additions of Matilda and Nugget, I was a goner. It was so easy to see why Charlie fell for Travis, he was simply perfect.
I think we needed to see the guys past their honeymoon phase of the relationship, and the additional fears of Charlie’s were realistic considering his past. But I have to say, my favorite moments were when Charlie finally became verbally honest with Ma and Travis…and that honesty was so extremely romantic that I couldn’t help but sigh out loud. He saw himself as unromantic, but in reality, he was the epitome of romance wrapped in a tough cowboy shell. I simply adored him.
I’m currently two books behind in this series, and I am a little afraid to move forward because everything ended so well here. But, considering how much I like this author’s writing, I am moving forward and upward, and I know it’s going to be a great ride. If you haven’t started this series yet, you are making a huge mistake. Highly recommended for everyone.
Overall Impression: I loved it
