Blurb:  As the landlord of The Dragon’s Lair and leader of The Black Dragons Motorcycle Club, Axel Carmichael has seen it all and done it all. He’s a respected and experienced dom. Nothing shocks him any more, and nobody catches him off guard.

When Bayden rides up to The Dragon’s Lair on a bike worth more than most men earn in a year, and immediately demonstrates that he has far more attitude than sense, it’s easy for Axel to write him off as a silly little rich boy who’s about to get himself killed.

But, there’s more to Bayden than meets the eye. He’s no silly little boy, rich or otherwise, and werewolves aren’t easy to kill.

Review: Kim Dare is a favorite of mine; a favorite shifter author and a favorite BDSM author and when she combines the two, good things always happen! This time the good thing is in the form of Axel’s Pup, the first in her new series that, despite the title, does not contain any dragon shifters. Instead, we are introduced to a world where werewolves are known to exist and have not been treated kindly by humans. What’s called The Captivities is over and shifters are free, if you can say as much with the laws and their treatment.

Bayden, a young werewolf, has been doing his best to live under the rules while taking care of himself and his family the only way he knows how. He takes bets with humans, allowing them to use him but never allowing them to control him. Bayden has a deep sense of pride and has never truly submitted to a human, despite what many of them want to believe.

Axel, owner of a local club and leader of The Dragons motorcycle club is unlike any human Bayden has ever met. He’s kind, he’s caring and he’s the alpha Bayden has been looking for. From the moment they meet this becomes a story of what it means to truly submit to another and what kind of person is deserving of submission.

If you’ve never read Kim Dare before, you should know that there’s just something about the way she writes BDSM relationships. It’s real and it’s raw and it peels away all the layers to get at the core of the lifestyle. In addition, she has a very unique way with shifters. The natural animal qualities tend to lend themselves to her version of BDSM and really enhance that aspect of the story.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. The depth and quality of the relationship, the lifestyle and the world is what I’ve come to expect from Kim Dare. My one and only warning is that this is a longer story and at some points I did feel like it was slow and dragging. I get that it was a part of building the trust between Axel and Bayden but as a reader, I feel like it could have been compacted just a bit. Even so, I read every word and enjoyed it immensely!

Overall Impression: I really liked it
