Blurb: Lasair Faol, Master of the Fade-Hounds to the Royal court of the Demesne of Fire in the Fae Realm, has been exiled to the human world by the Princess Consort for failing to catch her son’s kidnapper. Bryce Newhouse, Greenwich Village investment banker, is universally loathed by all who know him. Generally, he’s perfectly cool with that, but he discovers what he’s been missing—literally—when he finds Lasair chained in his basement.
Bryce was supposed to receive half of Lasair’s soul at his birth, but thanks to the Fae of Purgatory, the Pattern—portal between the worlds—has been damaged, and Bryce’s soul arrived thirty-one years too late. Now the exiled Fae is the shunned human’s only hope of healing his broken past. And with the fate of two worlds riding on that healing, Lasair is going to have to overcome both his race’s innate mistrust of genuine emotion and his own very unFae awkwardness, to have any chance of reaching Bryce’s impenetrable heart.
When Lasair, Master of the Fade-Hounds for the Demesne of Fire Royals, is exiled from the Fae Realm, he ends up in a strange place with a standoffish man who just might be his SoulShare. Unfortunately, the more Bryce pushes him away, the more he’s determined to stay. Bryce has lived the first 31 years of his life with no soul and now that Lasair’s showed up, he’s struggling with having a conscious and his feelings for Lasair. With Bryce’s resistance and Lasair’s stubbornness, will these two be able to complete their SoulShare bond or will inside and outside forces tear them apart?
This was my absolutely favorite of the series so far. I loved seeing Bryce find redemption and I loved seeing him struggle with his new conscious. At the same time, I really liked that Lasair was stubborn enough to see through Bryce’s attempts to push him away and stayed by his side. I ADORED the chemistry between them and while it was mostly sexual, I liked that there was such a struggle between suddenly feeling so much towards another person.
My only issue is that I wished the ending had been more fleshed out. I felt like the big showdown was a little underwhelming when it switched to Bryce’s POV so it left me wanting more. And I wanted to see more of what happened afterward especially with Bryce’s healing and where things stand between them now such as if they’ll be going to D.C. or staying in New York?
In the end, I loved, loved, loved this book! I was glad to finally get Bryce’s story and I loved seeing him struggle with his newfound feelings especially when it came to Lasair. However one of the best things about this story was Senanta! Adored that dog so much! I’m looking forward to the next book in the series and seeing where things go from here!
Overall Impression: I loved it!
