Blurb: With wings of midnight and an affinity for shadows, Jason courts darkness. But now, with the Archangel Neha’s consort lying murdered in the jewel-studded palace that was his prison and her rage threatening cataclysmic devastation, Jason steps into the light, knowing he must unearth the murderer before it is too late.
Earning Neha’s trust comes at a price—Jason must tie himself to her bloodline through the Princess Mahiya, a woman with secrets so dangerous, she trusts no one. Least of all an enemy spymaster.
With only their relentless hunt for a violent, intelligent killer to unite them, Jason and Mahiya embark on a quest that leads to a centuries-old nightmare… and to the dark storm of an unexpected passion that threatens to drench them both in blood.
When Neha’s consort is killed, Jason volunteers to investigate and find his murderer. To do that, he must bind himself to Neha’s niece, Princess Mahiya. But when Jason arrives in Neha’s palace, he doesn’t expect to be captivated by the quiet, meek Mahiya. As Jason does his best to figure out who killed Neha’s consort and learn a little about what’s going on inside her court, he finds himself drawn to Mahiya’s inner strength. In hundreds of years, no one’s tempted Jason like Mahiya has and when the search for the killer gets too close to home, will he be able to save Mahiya and fulfill his promise to Neha?
I’ve wanted Jason’s story since I first read him in the series. I was interested in his almost bleak existence and matter of fact way of relaying things. In this book, I loved that he finally got his story and seeing how different he was from Raphael and Dmitri. He’s so possessive and it scares him which I LOVED. I just adored that he was so scared for Mahiya and getting close to her. As for Mahiya, I liked that she was different than Elena and Honor. She didn’t have physical strength but she had inner strength from lasting so long in Neha’s court. She’s the perfect match for Jason because she’s still caring, almost “soft” but has a backbone of steel. Together, they’re passionate and intense and I loved their slow but sweet dance before they finally get together.
I absolutely adored Jason and Mahiya as a couple but I was a little disappointed with the final resolution. With the build up to who killed Neha’s consort (which I found a little obvious), I expected more of an intense resolution, something that had me sitting on the edge of my seat… but I wasn’t so I was a little let down on that 😦
In the end, though, I loved getting Jason’s story and seeing his walls come down for someone so unexpected like Mahiya. It was interesting to get to know the mysterious Jason better and loved getting to experience a heroine who wasn’t so badass. I can’t wait to see more of them in the future and see how they adjust as a couple.
Overall Impression: I really liked it!
