Blurb: After Sam returns home from two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, he moves to the Colorado mountains, where he hopes to begin a new life with his husband, Michael. Sam becomes the sheriff of sparsely populated Pine County, while Michael opens a curio shop for tourists where he sells his art. When Sam and his deputy attempt to rescue a body from a dangerously fragile mountainside snowpack, Sam’s perception of the world, his husband, and the veracity of truths whispered in old winds, are called into question.
When Sam comes back from his last tour, he decides to move to a small town in Colorado with his husband and become sheriff. Now he’s made a life with Michael in a town he loves but when one of his deputies claims there’s some who fell up in the mountains, he goes up there to rescue them but instead of helping the person, he ends up getting caught in a snowed in ditch with his deputy. But when the unexpected happens, Sam might just learn something about his husband he never knew before.
I LOVED this story but what the hell was up with Sam and his obsession with his obsession with Digger’s ass?? I grew so annoyed at the reference to how amazing it was. I didn’t appreciate Sam constantly bringing it up because it added nothing to the story and made me not like Sam a little bit. The only other thing is I wanted to learn more about Michael’s family, what they were and all that. But I enjoyed the glimpses into Michael and Sam’s life. It was interesting to see how Sam looked back on special moments and how he felt during them.
All in all, I enjoyed this one. I liked the connection Sam and Michael had and how it was able to save Sam and Digger’s life. I grew annoyed with some of the things Sam said but I still ultimately liked this story and the little twist at the end. I hope we get to see more of these guys (the story is mostly just about Sam and Digger being trapped than Sam/Michael) but I’d love to read more about Sam and Michael someday.
Overall Impression: I really liked it!
