Blurb: Mason Arquette isn’t one for mincing words. In fact, he often rubs people the wrong way—with the exception of Riece Burrell. Riece came with his own set of social issues, but he saw right through Mason’s tough exterior, and they made a perfect couple. Or so Mason thought… until Riece abruptly ended their relationship without much explanation.
Years later, Mason and Riece are thrown back together. As a US Forestry Service photographer, Riece is sent on assignment to the Black Hills, where Mason works. When Mason is tasked with guiding Riece around the territory, old feelings are quickly rekindled.
But nothing is ever easy. Just as Mason and Riece begin to work things out, they’re targeted by people with motives so vile and twisted they defy imagination. In a desperate race for their lives, they must depend on one another and take a big step out of their personal comfort zones to find their way back to safety—and back to love.
Riece and Mason were together years ago before Riece left without any reason. Now, Riece has taken as assignment in Black Hills as a US Forestry Service photographer and Mason, as Park Ranger, volunteers to be his guide. But when their hiking takes them deep into the forest and into a trap, their leisure time together turns into something so much sinister when they find themselves being hunted by a group of people hellbent on making the chase all the more exciting. Will Mason and Riece be able to get themselves out of danger even though they’re vastly out numbered?
Wow! This novella was something else! I was expecting a little suspense, maybe some action but what I got instead of a suspenseful thriller about two guys forced into the role of prey and running for their life, trying to survive being hunted. I loved that there was so much history behind Mason and Riece but that Mason didn’t let that get in the way of wanting to pick things back up. It was obvious how much Mason adored Riece and his quirks and how Riece still was in love with Mason. I really enjoyed them together and how much trust and faith they had in each other.
My only issue was that it started off with too much sex for me. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the story because of that but around 25% things really started to pick up. I got sucked into the story and just couldn’t put it down!
All in all, this was a phenomenal story in the Circles series. I’m glad we got Mason’s story and it turned out to be such a suspenseful, captivating read. But now I want Tyler’s story! And I hope this won’t be the last we see of Mason and Riece. If you’ve read the Circles series then you’ll definitely enjoy this one!
Overall Impression: I loved it!
