Blurb: In a world where magic is outlawed, Tylanovaar must hide his true identity. As a young prince about to be married, the last thing his people can find out is that he has the gift of fire in his veins.

But when he meets the man hired to turn him into a suitable heir for the throne, he’s forced to keep another secret.

Sully is an elite lawkeeper called a Rider. When a young man he meets by chance ends up being the Prince of Evolin, Sully becomes his tutor at the king’s request. Tylan fascinates him, and a journey to help Tylan learn to control his magic gives them time alone, but not enough. They take ever greater risks to be together until they are caught in Sully’s bed on Tylan’s wedding night, causing Tylan to lose the fragile hold he has over his gift.

As a Rider, Sully lives a life of freedom so when he’s ordered to become the tutor of a spoiled prince, his life becomes a lot more restricted and complicated. Especially when the prince he’s teaching is the very boy he had a quickie with in a neighboring village. Tylan may be a prince but he lives in a world where magic is forbidden and he has the gift of fire within him. As they get closer together, their feelings for each other grow but their love is forbidden. What will they do when Tylan is promised to another and there’s no future for them?

I’m going to admit, I ended up starting Fire King without realizing it was the third book in this series so I’m a little biased now on what happens. As it is, I found Tylan to be an extremely spoiled brat. It was hard to understand him since this book is only in Sully’s POV. Now, I didn’t really like Sully as a character either. I found him to be cruel and obnoxious BUT I really liked the spark between these two and I can feel the connection between them. I loved that their feelings are so deep that they’re literally willing to give up everything and die for one another.

My biggest issue was how much sex there was, though. Also, I don’t have any problems with rough sex but wow, these boys did not know what lube was or even spit for that matter. The first few times they had sex, there’s absolutely nothing there to slick the way! I don’t see how Tylan wasn’t torn out!

In the end, this was a nice little story. The characters as individuals aren’t appealing but I liked them together as a couple. I already know what happens to them but I’m looking forward to seeing their journey along the way. If you’re looking for a quick fantasy story with a lot of sex, definitely give this a go!

Overall Impression: I liked it

*I purchased my own, personal copy of this book for review.*
