Blurb: Control. Precision. Family. These are the principles that drive Silver Mercant. At a time when the fledgling Trinity Accord seeks to unite a divided world, with Silver playing a crucial role as director of a worldwide emergency response network, wildness and chaos are the last things she needs in her life. But that’s exactly what Valentin Nikolaev, alpha of the StoneWater bears, brings with him.

Valentin has never met a more fascinating woman. Though Silver is ruled by Silence–her mind clear of all emotion–Valentin senses a whisper of fire around her. That’s what keeps him climbing apartment buildings to be near her. But when a shadow assassin almost succeeds in poisoning Silver, the stakes become deadly serious…and Silver finds herself in the heart of a powerful bear clan.

Her would-be assassin has no idea what their poison has unleashed…

I have no idea how to write this review because I really have no words on how to describe my feelings. I mean, for me, Nalini Singh is an amazing author so reading one of her books is bound to be amazing but this book…. Oh my god this book takes the cake! This is my favorite series in the history of series that I’ve read but this novel is along the lines of Caressed by Ice, which is my ALL TIME favorite book. What to say about this one? Well it’s about a gentleman bear named Valentin and Silver fucking Merchant. Nuff said!

Now, technically this is the start of a sorta spin-off series you can read on it’s own without reading the Psy-Changeling series BUT you won’t understand some of the context or how the world was before this book unless you’ve read the Psy-Changeling series. You’ll be able to move along with the story and enjoy it but I feel like you’d be missing something if you didn’t read the original series before this one. I won’t go into much detail about the actual story either just that Valentin saves Silver from being killed by a shadow assassin and in doing so, sets in motions a great opportunity to get Silver just where he wants her.

Now, the couples in this series are always so passionate with some brilliant banter but the exchanges between Silver and Valentin had me laughing out loud and tearing up in certain places. This story played with my emotions for sure! But seeing Valentin slowly crumble Silver’s walls and seeing Silver embrace the fall of them while watching Valentin melt over Silver was something special to me. I loved the deadpan comebacks Silver had and I loved the boisterous behavior by not just Valentin but all bears.

There was one thing that women in this story kept saying and every time, I could just imagine the infliction behind it, the happiness and the put upon sigh. This word you ask? Bears. I just loved it! Every time it was said I couldn’t help but smile especially when Silver started saying it! Oh my lord *happiness* That one word explained all the male bears behavior, the aggravating but endearing things they did and the sweet things they did and really just an explanation behind anything they wouldn’t do or would do too much. So sweet. Even now, it’s replaying in my head with how Silver or Nova would say it. LOVED IT.

I could go on and on about Valentin and Silver but I’ll keep it (sorta) brief. Silver is a hardass Psy who puts up with Valentin’s not so subtle attempts to get a rise out of her but her Silence keeps her from acting on anything Valentin suggests. Silver has no intentions of taking Valentin’s offering of going out for ice cream and she’s made it clear she’s not interested but Valentin is very determined. He will court his Silver right out of Silence. Valentin is, of course, a boisterous bear whose full of love and happiness and he won’t leave Silver alone until she’s his. They’re both scary and deadly alphas but while Valentin is a little teddy bear from the start, Silver eventually warms up to everyone and you can see the fierce love and softness within her to protect those she considers hers. Another thing I loved is that there was a scene where Silver and Valentin had a ‘who’s scariest’ competition. It was hysterical.

I have absolutely no complaints about this book but what I will say is that Arwen and Pavel? NEED A BOOK. And Nikita and Anthony? NEED A BOOK. This book also makes me want to reread all the other books over again lol

Now that I’m done gushing I’m going to wrap this review up and say that Nalini is a brilliant writer and this story is just beautiful. The world building is phenomenal and the story arc is at a place where it’s about coming together and overcoming the races differences and prejudices. It’s about the journey to connect all the races and Silver and Valentin taking that step to move things along and, of course, find love for themselves!

I mean, I’ve wanted Silver’s book since we first met her many stories ago! So it was great getting her story, seeing that the Merchant family isn’t much different than changelings (aside from the touching thing) and it was even better to experience how the bears clan functions. Mixing these two together? EXPLOSIVE. Now I can’t wait to see what Ms. Singh comes up with next! Definitely give this a go if you’re a Nalini Singh fan and have been following this world. You won’t regret reading it!

Overall Impression: It was AMAZING!!

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher in return for a fair and honest review.*
