Blurb: When the last thing you want, is everything you need….
Seb Calloway isn’t interested in shifters. After his best friend bonded with one, he avoids getting involved with them—no matter how hot they are—to prevent the same thing from happening to him. Why take the risk for a few hours of fun?
Tim Walters is the pack doctor. Considered to be mild-mannered and non-threatening by pack standards, he prides himself on being able to stay calm and maintain his control at all times. Desperate for a bond of his own, he knows his interest in Seb is an exercise in futility, but he can’t seem to help himself.
When news emerges that threatens Seb’s safety, he and Tim need to fake a relationship to keep Seb safe. Despite Seb’s refusal to be anything other than friends with benefits, what starts out as pretend, quickly becomes more—for Tim at least. If Tim doesn’t want to end up heartbroken, he needs to prove to Seb that loving a shifter doesn’t mean losing himself.
Review: I love a good shifter story, and this series just gave us two. We met Seb and Tim, initially, in the first book, Bitten by Mistake, where Seb is introduced as Jared’s human best friend and Tim is the shifter doctor who helped to heal Jared’s new mate, Nathan. They both came across as really good guys, especially Tim, so I was excited to see where they went from there.
This story is a continuation of the problems plaguing the Regent’s pack from the P-pack. The trouble starts to escalate when the P pack starts to terrorize Seb, and in the process, Seb is injured. Being a human. he doesn’t heal instantly, like the shifters, and since he is Jared’s best friend, he is now considered part of the Regent’s pack. That grants him protection from the Regent’s pack but makes him a target for the P pack. Yes, folks, Seb wants to be his own man, says he can protect himself, and balks at not being able to go back to his apartment. So not gonna happen.
The perfect solution is to have Seb and Tim pretend to be boyfriends…but it not pretend on Tim’s side. And honestly, it’s not pretend on Seb’s side either but the stubborn is strong in that one. We all know that this will end on a happy note, and I must admit one of the reasons I liked it so much and gave it a four star review was because Seb didn’t hold out too long. I loved that he was able to man up and not keep Tim hanging forever on his feeling, even if he was a butt at times and kept Tim holding out on a wing and a prayer that he would change his mind about the bite and bond.
Looking forward to seeing if there is another book on the horizon, and if so, who will it be? Luke? Alec? We shall have to wait, but I do know that I will be reading it as soon as it’s available.
Overall Impression: I really liked it!
