Blurb: Matthew Elliot is one of LA’s best detectives—a smart, tough, closeted gay man. When he falls for his gym instructor, it’s not his colleagues he should be worried about finding out…it’s the bad guys.
Matthew Elliot is one of LA’s best detectives. He’s been labelled the golden boy of the Fab Four: a team of four detectives who’ve closed down drug-rings all over the city. He’s smart, tough and exceptionally good at his job.
He’s also a closeted gay man.
Enter Kira Takeo Franco, the new boxing coach at the gym. Matthew can’t deny his immediate attraction to the man his fellow cops know as Frankie. But in allowing himself to fall in love with a man known to his colleagues, Matthew risks outing them both.
Matt and Kira work to keep their relationship and private lives hidden from Matt’s very public life, fearing it would be detrimental to their careers.
But it’s not the other cops who Matthew should be worried about finding out his deepest, darkest secret…it’s the bad guys.
Review:
I’ve read this book three times, so grabbing the audio was a no-brainer, and the best decision ever. There is always the risk that the audio won’t live up to the book, and vice versa, but this turned out to be the case of the audio making the book even better. Sean Crisden brings this world to life in such a way that I was surprised when it ended.
Book review: I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. I was worried that Kira would be the dirty little secret kept by the big, bad detective. Oh, how wrong I was, and glad for it. Not only was Kira not little, but he kicked ass, literally, and I LOVED him. He was Matt’s secret, but that was okay because Matt was Kira’s secret too.
I loved how Matt didn’t lie about dating Kira…he just let his fellow officers believe that Kira was female. As long as Kira was okay with it, I was too.
Their weekly boxing lessons were hot…never thought two guys beating the crap out of each other would be so exciting, but these two have sexual ooze in spades.
Everything was going along quite nicely between these guys, almost too sweet at times. But then just as I was expecting the same ol, same ol…the capture and torture of Kira nearly floored me…and it nearly killed Matt. That was harsh!
I loved how Matt’s co-workers rallied behind Kira and accepted him. Having Kira put himself in harm’s way for the fellow officers wives went a long way in putting to rest that gay men were all soft. There is nothing soft about Kira. He and Matt are two of my favorite alpha men and I can’t wait to listen the next book.
Audio review: I loved both Matt and Kira from page one. They are such buff, alpha males, but they have a heart and they understand each other. Kira does the seducing in this case, but he does it in such a way that it is funny and sweet, and not cheesy or stalkerish. Sean Crisden does an amazing job of creating a world where you understand why Matt and Kira both choose to remain closeted…until they are both violently pulled out. His performance was so well done that I could hear the love and jokes in Kira’s voice, and I hear the heartbreak in Matt’s when he saw Kira being tortured.
This could not have been an easy book to narrate, but Sean took my 4 star book review and turned it in a 4.5 star. I am looking forward to finishing listening to this series now that I know that the narration will only enhance what was already and amazing series. Highly recommend you give this audio a chance, you won’t be disappointed.
Overall Impression: I loved it!
