Blurb: Strange things are happening all around Brinnswick. Things that remind me of a piece of my past I’d rather forget. Girls are being killed, drained of blood, and left with strange markings on their bodies. When I finally connect the cases together, a specialist is called in—though, what he’s a specialist of is beyond me.
When the chief assigns him as my new partner for the case, I can’t help but groan on the inside. Why of all people would I be assigned to Ailin Ellwood? The man is a disaster waiting to happen and a jerk to boot. A sexy jerk, but a jerk nonetheless.
What will Sebastian think when he discovers Ailin’s specialty? Will he make a run for it or will he stick around and discover a world of magic hidden beneath the city’s surface?
***The Enchanter’s Flame is the first book in the Ellwood Chronicles. It’s a paranormal romance that contains explicit material and is intended for mature adults 18 and over.***
Review:
WHERE HAS THIS BOOK BEEN ALL MY LIFE?! When I read the blurb, it was ages ago so I didn’t really remember what the book was about. I just saw the cover and was like, ‘ooh, this one looks pretty’ and started reading. And let me tell you, I could not stop once I started. I was up until the weeee hours of the morning reading this one. In fact, about 30% in, I already knew it would stay an amazing book that I told a good friend to read RIGHT NOW! It was beyond amazing, it was just a stellar read that I could not get enough of!
This one does have a very intriguing mystery about a connection of bodies being drained of blood. I liked that Ailin and Sebastian are forced to work together because Sebastian is the one that found a link between these girls from different divisions. It was fun getting deeper and deeper into Ailin’s world with the more they uncovered during their investigation.
And while I adored the mystery, what I loved about the story was the chemistry between Ailin and Sebastian. From the start, Ailin is seen as this arrogant cocky guy who thinks everyone is beneath him, which doesn’t change really, but as the story goes on, you see how Ailin trusts Sebastian and embrace sSebastian as a work partner. He enfolds Sebastian into his life to the point that when Sebastian realizes how deep he is, he can’t even comprehend what really happened. I loved that while Ailin was very confident and cocky, Sebastian was more damaged and timid in a way. Sebastian brings Ailin down from his arrogance while Ailin boosts Sebastian’s confidence in himself.
It was sweet seeing how Sebastian was so clueless on Ailin’s feelings. I mean, the man would sleep with Sebastian and kiss him and Sebastian still thought Ailin didn’t want him. I loved the bickering and bantering between them. I loved that Ailin was able to convince Sebastian to let random animals in his precious car and I loved that Sebastian fit so well into Ailin’s coven. I JUST LOVED THEM!
Now, while I absolutely adored Seb and Ailin and their adventures and their bantering, I had one small problem…. ass. As in, whenever they would swear, it would contain the word ‘ass’. Asshole, asshat, assface… you get the picture. At first, I found it amusing and then it just became a little excessive that these boys couldn’t think of any other insults to toss out.
All in all, though, this was a phenomenal story. It drew me in right from the start with the snark and banter and mystery around Ailin. This author captured my heart with the intensity and chemistry between Ailin and Sebastian but I also loved that this had a paranormal mystery thrown in. It was intriguing seeing these two dance around their feelings AND Ailin dance around the fact that what was happening was paranormal related. I can’t wait to see what’s next because I cannot get enough of these two!
Overall Impression: I loved it!!
