Xander Karcek has only wanted two things in his life: Christian Edwards and basketball—the man he loves and the game that let him escape a childhood he’d rather forget. His two obsessions have served him well. He and Chris beat the odds and stayed together through high school, college, and right on to the NBA.
But life under fame’s microscope isn’t easy, especially when two men are pretending to be frat-buddies so the world doesn’t know they’re the next best thing to married. Their relationship survives the sacrifices they make and the lies they tell to stay together, but when their secret is exposed, the fallout might destroy them when nothing else could.
Chris and basketball are the two things holding Xander together. Now the world is asking Xander to make a choice. Is there an option that includes a future with the man he loves?

Review:
I’d read and 5 starred this book in 2011…and was expecting the audio to take it to the next level. Instead, it felt less emotional all around. I am unsure what happened, or maybe my expectations were set too high, but though I still love the book, I was not as in love with it the second time around.
This is not a knock on the narrator, at all. I think Sean Crisden is one of the best out there and he is probably why I chose to buy this audio in the first place. I feel like I need to repeat that this is still a great book and audio. My initial words are meant to show how I raised the bar to unrealistic levels, but the narrator was still able to make me love it.
Xander and Chris are boyhood friends, who fall in love as teens, with each other and basketball. They grow up together, they go to college together and they go into the NBA together. They are a powerhouse on the court, and secrets lovers off of it. These two break your heart with their fears and the insane need to hide, so much so that they pick up random women on a schedule to keep others from thinking they are not so straight. I remember when I read those parts my heart was stuck in my throat. When I listened to them, it didn’t have quite the same shock value. I will assume that was because I already knew it was coming.
So, four stars is still a pretty good rating for this audio, and you already know Sean Crisden is a knockout narrator, so go get a little locker room love. You won’t regret it…especially if have not read this book yet.
Overall Impression: I Really Liked It
