Blurb: Escape with Leo and Zak in outback Australia as they discover it sometimes takes time, distance, and interfering family to amalgamate.

After five years of living in the UK, it’s time for Leo to return home to his dad’s stud farm in outback Australia. He has no idea what to expect when he arrives. He didn’t exactly leave with balloons and banners.

Nope. His farewell involved destruction and his own heart split in two.

He knows seeing the man who’s always held his heart, Zak, is going to be awkward. The older farm manager made his feelings pretty damn clear when Leo hightailed it out of there.

Leo quickly figures out life is going to get complicated and a whole heap more exciting as his trip home becomes so much more.

Amalgamated is a fun and steamy M/M short story in Becca Seymour’s Coming Home series. Stand-alone romances complete with heat, wit, and happily ever afters.

Review:

When I read the blurb for this one, I was really intrigued because these types of stories are one of my favorites. Add in that Leo’s family owns a farm and there’s bound to be cowboys and I was eager to read this one. Considering this is a new-to-me author, I was not disappointed and actually really enjoyed it! It’s a sweet, short story and I liked that while Leo had been away for so many years, it was easy for him to get back in the groove of a farm life. I also really liked that Leo was so remorseful with what he did to Zak so it was interesting to see how the two interacted but also how they got close again so quickly. It was super sweet experiencing their memories and how they confessed to doing these little things when they knew the other was around and watching. So adorable!

I really enjoyed this one but I felt like it was way too short to give this novella justice. I liked that Leo and Zak had a history but I wanted to learn more about that, I wanted more depth into what happened all those years ago and I just wanted things to go a bit more slowly. As it was, everything happened so quickly and when I finished the story, I still didn’t understand why Leo did what he did or why Zak was taking the blame when everything was just a misunderstanding… at least I think it was a misunderstanding? I’m not quite sure so I would have liked at least that portion to be more fleshed out instead of just explained in one sentence as it was.

All in all, though, I still really liked this one. I adored Leo and Zak as characters and it was interesting to see how their relationship developed after Leo coming back and learning the little secrets they had when Leo was growing up. I hope, one day, Ms. Seymour considers making this into a novel but, as it is, I hope this won’t be the last we see of these two.

Overall Impression: I really liked it

*I received a copy of this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review.*
