Vegas Hustle by Ethan Stone: Excerpt & Giveaway!

WHP_Ethan Stone_Book Tour_final

An Excerpt from Vegas Hustle

I stretched my arms out, bent my legs and dove into the cool, refreshing water. I was in Las Vegas, I was eighteen years old and I was alone for the first time ever.

Well, almost alone, my friend Dean Schweister was with me. “Dean will keep you out of trouble,” my father had said. Ha! Dean had fooled everyone into believing he was a sweet young man.

I emerged from the water in dramatic fashion, imagining the scene in The Little Mermaid when Ariel comes out of the ocean onto the rock, her red hair flowing around her. My hair wasn’t red or long, but I still felt like a prince.

“Such a show off,” Dean muttered and tried to hide a smile.

We’d known each other our entire lives because our fathers worked together often. Dean’s father was one of my dad’s many lawyers. Barry Schweister normally only handled my father’s business on the West Coast but Dad had taken him to Australia to handle a crisis. It had then fallen on me and Dean to iron out a deal in Vegas. There wasn’t much to it other than a little haggling and signing some papers. I would’ve had to be an absolute idiot to screw it up.

Since Dean was two years older than me, I’m sure Dad had an idea we would party, but I don’t think he had a clue exactly what we had planned. Dad didn’t have a problem with me being gay but I doubt he’d want to know I planned on losing my virginity.

I pulled myself out of the pool then sat on a lounge chair next to Dean.

“You excited about later?” he asked.

“Yeah, I can’t wait to check out Heroes Unlimited.” HU was a comic book shop right on the strip, one of the biggest stores in the United States.

He rolled his eyes. “You know that’s not what I’m talking about.”

“Yes, I’m looking forward to our other plans, too.” I smirked.

Honorary Blogger Jennifer Bray-Weber: Fire In the Hole! + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Fire In the Hole!

by Jennifer Bray-Weber

Have you ever read a book with pirates or watched a pirate movie that didn’t have a sea battle? Not likely. Pirates engaging in battle at sea are as common as bad pirate puns. Arrgh, shiver me timbers!

In my MUTINY OF THE HEART, pirate captain Joelle Quint engages in not one, not two, but three sea battles. Really, what’s a pirate adventure without some live action?  However, did you know that pirates often avoided going into battle?

Sure, pirates are known for their larceny and rioting. Pillage and plunder, yo, ho, ho. But when chasing down ships under sail, pirates preferred tactical strategy over a blood bath.

Once the pirates spotted a potential prize, they shadowed the quarry, following them for hours, and sometimes even days. They did this to determine several things—the country the ship hailed from, where the ship was headed, how fast she could sail, what she might have in her hold, and if the vessel was well-armed.  How did they determine all this? By being fearless, cunning, and bad ass, of course.  These men were experienced in the seas they prowled, became knowledgeable of the trade routes, and had rats, er, informants staked along in every ports. It was just business, after all.

Armed with this intelligence, the pirate crew voted on whether they wanted to take the ship or let her pass.  Should they decide a ship was a worthy prize, they still didn’t attack. Engaging in battle was the last thing they wanted. What good was a prize if she was damaged, or worse, sinking? And no one wanted to die, right? Pirates relied on the elements of speed, surprise, and bullying.

First, they might show their colors by hoisting their jolly roger. If that didn’t scare the bejeebers out of ’em, they’d fire a single warning shot across the quarry’s bow. You’d think that would be enough. Alas, there were some stubborn fools who needed more persuasion. Pirates would then resort to vapouring techniques, terrorizing victims into surrendering. Fierce shouts and fearsome threats, lively battle music, and brandishing weapons were usually quite effective. Think Blackbeard lacing and lighting fuses into his scraggly beard. Crazy. Giving up the goods spared lives. But those who resisted, well, they were shown no quarter.

So what happens when pirates hunt pirates? Things get nasty. Throw in the Royal Navy, dangerous shoals, and a slave hell-bent on stirring up a mutiny, and Captain Joelle Quint  is having a really bad day. It’s no wonder she’s ready to fire all her guns.

About Mutiny of the Heart

1Navigating the high seas as the female captain of a pirate ship means always being on your guard—especially when one takes a temptingly handsome slave on board.

Captain Joelle Quint believes the slave claiming to be a cartographer can help her decipher the map her father left her when she was a child. She’s spent years trying to unlock its truths, hoping that it holds the answers to a dark family secret.

Sloan Ricker has no intention of remaining captive. When the fiery, red-headed captain offers him his freedom in exchange for solving her map, what begins as an opportunity to escape becomes a struggle to make the beautiful, intriguing Joelle his mistress in more ways than one.

Amidst a battle with the Royal Navy and a first mate’s jealousy, Joelle also fights her growing lust. And as much as he’d like to deny it, Ricker’s desire for Joelle has overcome his initial disdain. To get the answers, independence and love that they both long for, Joelle and Ricker must relinquish control to each other…or die trying.

Honorary Blogger Brina Brady: Brina’s Writing Process + Excerpt & Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Brina’s Writing Process

by Brina Brady

My writing process begins with two characters and then I add more. I fill out a thorough character chart for each. I create in Scrivener because I am able to have pictures of my characters while I type. From this point, I begin writing and have my characters talk to each other. My first draft is dialogue with sparse settings and descriptions. For some reason, I like to focus on 3000 words at a time. I will work it for a week until the skeleton grows some flesh. During this process, I add more action and beats to the tags. The description is more detailed, sometimes too much then later needs cutting.

In Rent Me, I did extensive research on the Russian culture and Russian mobsters located in California. I know California since I lived there. I wanted to make sure Dmitri reacted to his oppressive culture and grew from it. He was suppressed as a child because in Russia you can’t be openly gay. This caused problems for him because he was in love with Brennen, but he married Nika to appease his family and friends. I like to create conflict in each chapter.

I researched rent boys on Twitter to see why they liked their job. Another great resource for me was Tumblr. The pictures fused my imagination for sex scenes. I also investigated some pictures and videos on some Gay sites to get ideas. That was the fun part of researching.

One day I sat down and thought about a backstory for Brennen. Where did he come from? How did he meet Dmitri?

As time went on, I added layers to each chapter. I took many writing classes from Romance Writers of America. I found out I needed some hooks so I added them in later. I joined writing groups and listened to what my beta readers suggested and having a great editor helps, too.

My writing begins in my head and my characters demand time on my screen. I allow them to do as they will for the most part. A couple of times, both Dmitri and Brennen were out of control so I had to rein them in.

Currently, I am working on my new novel Bent Over but the sequel to Rent Me is also in process due to the demands of Brennen and Dmitri. I love writing and will never stop.

About Rent Me

22047254

Rent Boy Brennen wants to belong to his lover Dmitri Dubrovsky. The Russian mobster controls every inch of his life in and out of bed. Brennen works for Dmitri’s escort service. His only desire is to please his lover. When Dmitri marries Nika, his lover moves him out of their home to an apartment in Beverly Hills and tells him nothing has changed. What is Brennen going to do now?

Warning:

This is a Gay adult consensual story focused on themes of corporal discipline punishment and explicit sex with some elements of BDSM between adult men over the age of eighteen.

An Excerpt from Rent Me

Dmitri pounded his fists on the table and said, “Now, you are being disrespectful to me.”

“Well, you are siding with all our enemies.”

“What the hell are you talking about? You are under my protection and in exchange, I asked you to respect me. And if you disrespect me, I am in charge of the consequences. You agreed to this. Do you remember our written agreement?”

“Yes, I remember. Sorry if I was disrespectful, but I feel you don’t treat me like an adult.”

“Sorry is not good enough this time. For your punishment, you have three choices. Your first choice is to quit being an escort. Your second choice is for me to take you back to Adrik. Your third choice is to give your consent to be whipped with my belt and it won’t be play discipline.”

“I can’t believe you want to bring me back to Adrik.” Brennen shook his head. “I’m not quitting my job. Especially now since you are married. And you are not going to punish me with a belt. You’re my boyfriend.”

Dmitri got up from the table, picked up the red apple timer on the stovetop, and set it down in front of Brennen. When he had gotten into trouble, Dmitri and Mischa used the timer for time-outs. The timer was their way of giving him some quiet space to think about what he had done wrong.

“Why a belt? Brennen looked up at Dmitri.

“Did you think I would discipline you with our play paddle?”

“But Adrik used to hit me with a belt.” He was annoyed at his own whining voice.

“It’s punishment. Quit your damn escort job, then.”

“I can’t believe you are doing this to me,” Brennen said.

“You have twenty minutes to decide which punishment you want. You only have three choices, but if you don’t accept any of the choices, then you are choosing to walk away from me as your lover.”

“You don’t mean this, do you?” Brennen asked.

“Have you ever known me to lie to you?”

“No.”

“I will always take care of you, but you will no longer be my lover if you don’t choose one of the three punishments. Our relationship is based on me being the top man who makes the rules and you are the bottom man who follows the rules. You knew this when we became lovers.”

Dmitri set the apple timer. “You have twenty minutes to decide.” He left him alone in the kitchen with the red ticking frying pan clock.

Why was he doing this?

Brennen knew Dmitri could force him back to Adrik. But even if he made him go there, he would probably be able to run away. He did not want to take any chances. No, that was not an option, and Dmitri knew that.

Dmitri playing God again.

This was all about Dmitri forcing him to quit the escort job at the agency. Brennen was not going to quit his job. He loved it, and it made him feel good about himself. But to walk away from Dmitri as his lover was not what he wanted either. The only thing left was to give consent to be punished with the belt. How hard would he hit him? The timer continued to tick along with the clock on the wall. His nerves went to hell.

Dmitri entered the kitchen as the timer buzzed. Brennen covered his ears and slapped it. He picked the apple timer up and returned it to its proper place.

“What have you decided?” Dmitri asked.

Running Wild Virtual Blog Tour + Giveaway!

RunningWild_TourBanner(1)

Thanks so much to The Blogger Girls for hosting me on the tour for Running Wild: Havoc Book 1.  This is the start of a brand new series, with different heroes for each book and HEAs at the end of each book.  Sean Rush and Ryker stole my heart a long time ago, and I’m excited for you guys to meet all of them.

Here’s a snippet from a scene toward the middle of the book. Ryker has just proved to Sean that he doesn’t mind his MC knowing they’re together — by kissing the hell out of him in front of everyone. And then he tells Sean to get on the back of his bike, so he can take Sean home. Sean has objections…

An Excerpt from Running Wild

Still, I kept my voice down so no one could hear when I told him, “I’m not riding in the bitch seat.”

He was trying not to grin, but failing. “Why not?”

“I know exactly what it means when you ride on the back of a guy’s bike.”

“Really?”

“It means you fucking own me, Ryker.”

“Don’t I?”

His words were a low rumble that shot straight to my dick and holy fuck . . . I had no answer. Well, obviously I did, but I refused to put voice to it.

I was out—that wasn’t the issue. And obviously being out wasn’t an issue for him either. But the MC shit, we’d never talked about it, what it meant for us. All these men knew about our relationship, knew he was looking out for me. Knew he considered me his.

I swear I had to remind myself to breathe.

“Get on the bike, Sean.”

This time, Ryker’s tone left no room for argument. If anything, it made me harder. I stopped thinking—par for the course when I was around Ryker—and I got on the bike behind him.

About Running Wild, Havoc #1

1Embrace the danger…

Sean Rush is an adrenaline junkie. That’s why he was in the Army, why he steals and races classic muscle cars . . . and why he can’t stay away from bad boy Ryker, a Havoc Motorcycle Club lieutenant. Fortunately, Ryker can’t seem to stay away from Sean—he’s spent the last eight months breaking into Sean’s apartment and stealing into his bed, leaving Sean physically satisfied but increasingly restless.

Sean has always avoided relationships. He likes to come and go without being controlled. And Ryker is possibly the most controlling man he’s ever known. Still, he finds that he wants more from Ryker than their silent nighttime encounters.

Then one of Sean’s thefts goes bad, and Ryker’s protective instincts kick into overdrive. He takes Sean to the Havoc compound, determined to keep him safe. But Sean’s past threatens the safety of Havoc—and everything Ryker holds dear. Worse, Ryker’s hiding secrets of his own. Soon it’s obvious that the adrenaline rush can’t keep them together anymore. But maybe love can.

Available atRiptide Publishing

FYI, I’m also writing a m/f MC series under the Steph Tyler name—the first book of that series, Vipers Run is out now as well.  And there’s a very light crossover in that you’ll see names of MCs that are main characters in my Vipers series—namely Vipers MC, along with the Heathens.  Havoc’s friendly with Vipers, not so much with Heathens (they seem to be everyone’s enemy at the moment).

Honorary Blogger Charlie Cochet: The THIRDS + Giveaway!

CCHHWBlogTourBanner

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to be here on day three of my Hell & High Water Blog Tour. Thank you, Blogger Girls for hosting me, and thank you to everyone who’s following the tour. Today I’m talking about the organization the series is named after, the: THIRDS. On our last stop, I talked about how a new species demanded the creation of new laws and new branches of government. But someone would have to be equipped to enforce these laws. Humans demanded a law enforcement branch that could handle Therian threats, and Therians demanded a law enforcement branch that was unbiased.

The police force had already purged itself of any Therian officers, becoming the Human Police Force–or the HPF. However, world governments agreed that creating a Therian-only law enforcement branch would cause more of a rift between Humans and Therians, a relationship that was already tenuous at best. This new law enforcement branch was a great opportunity to unite both races with one common goal: justice for all.

The government opened the THIRDS. A military funded organization operating as law enforcement under the US Branch of Defense–which includes both Human and Therian defense, and consisting of an equal number of Human and Therian employees. For this series, I had to build this organization from the ground up. Everything from logos to uniforms, to types of agents. It was fun and at the same time overwhelming. And not every detail makes it into the books, but the knowledge has to be there. Despite it involving shifters, I wanted the THIRDS to be as realistic as possible, so there had to be a solid foundation on which to build from.

The THIRDS is a mixture of military and police, comprising of three types of agents: Intel, Recon, and Defense. If you’d like to get an idea of how far I had to break things down, you can check it out here. On our next stop, I’ll be talking about the THIRDS agents that keep your city safe.

Think of England by KJ Charles: Excerpt & Giveaway!

An Excerpt from Think of England

by KJ Charles

Archie Curtis, British officer, gentleman, and solid Victorian soul, meets Daniel da Silva for the first time, and, it’s not quite instalove…

“Mr. Curtis, this is Mr. da Silva.”

Curtis looked at the gentleman indicated and decided on the spot that he’d rarely seen a more dislikable man.

He was about Curtis’s age and just a few inches shorter, close to six foot, but with nothing of his own bulk. A slender, willowy sort, and very dark, with sleek and glossy black hair, brilliantined to within an inch of its life, and eyes of such a deep shade that it was nearly impossible to tell pupil from iris. His skin was olive-tinted against his white shirt. In fact, he was quite obviously some kind of foreigner.

A foreigner and a dandy, because while his shirt was impeccable and the tailcoat and tapering trousers cut to perfection, he was wearing a huge green glass ring and, Curtis saw with dawning horror, a bright green flower in his buttonhole.

Da Silva walked a few steps over, giving Curtis just enough time to register that he affected a sinuous sort of movement, and offered him a hand so limp that he struggled not to drop it like a dead animal.

“Charmed,” drawled da Silva. Somewhat to Curtis’s surprise, his accent was that of an Englishman of breeding. “A military gentleman and a pugilist, how delightful. I do enjoy spending time with our brave boys.” He gave Curtis a curling smile and moved away, snake-hipped, taking Lady Armstrong with him as the party formed little groups.

“Well. Who’s that chap?” asked Curtis quietly.

“Dreadful dago,” said James, not quietly. “I’ve no idea why Sophie tolerates the man.”

About Think of England

20822874Lie back and think of England…

England, 1904. Two years ago, Captain Archie Curtis lost his friends, fingers, and future to a terrible military accident. Alone, purposeless and angry, Curtis is determined to discover if he and his comrades were the victims of fate, or of sabotage.

Curtis’s search takes him to an isolated, ultra-modern country house, where he meets and instantly clashes with fellow guest Daniel da Silva. Effete, decadent, foreign, and all-too-obviously queer, the sophisticated poet is everything the straightforward British officer fears and distrusts.

As events unfold, Curtis realizes that Daniel has his own secret intentions. And there’s something else they share—a mounting sexual tension that leaves Curtis reeling.

As the house party’s elegant facade cracks to reveal treachery, blackmail and murder, Curtis finds himself needing clever, dark-eyed Daniel as he has never needed a man before…

The Lost Year by Libby Drew: Exclusive Excerpt + Giveaway!

Thanks so much for having me! Please enjoy this exclusive excerpt from The Lost Year, book three in the Secrets of Neverwood trilogy. As the oldest foster brother to return to Neverwood, Devon had a difficult time finding his place in his new family. Things have since settled with Cal and Danny, but a new troubling mystery is unfolding…

An Exclusive Excerpt from The Lost Year

by Libby Drew

“You okay?” Devon gave Nicholas’s shoulder a brisk shake.

Nicholas answered in a voice soft with awe. “I thought I saw…”

Devon bit his tongue. “What?”

Lowering his gaze from the window, Nicholas said, “A floating woman.”

What could he possibly say to that? Regrouping, he steered a stunned Nicholas up the walk and onto the porch. “Okay, no big deal. You’re tired. Time for bed.”

“Wait.” Nicholas shook free of his hold as they reached the front door. “What the hell was that?”

“I didn’t see anything.”

“Really.” Nicholas’s vibrant eyes flashed in the weak glow of the porch light. “Because you seem pretty quick to brush it off. Too quick. I know what I saw. Are you trying to be funny, playing some kind of trick on me?”

Anger and indignation bubbled up at Nicholas’s accusation, but Devon squashed it. There had been something in the attic window. A ghost, in fact. But he couldn’t admit that. He held up both hands in surrender, tempered his tone and called on his professional voice. “Look, Nicholas. You’re tired. You’re stressed. I don’t know what you think you saw, but I promise there’s nothing in this house that’ll hurt you. You’re welcome to go sleep in your car, but there’s a warm bed on the other side of this door and probably a hot meal in the morning. Your choice.”

He set his face in a mask of indifference, eyes blank, mouth straight. The urge to keep Nicholas close probably wasn’t healthy, but Devon didn’t care. He couldn’t work out the strange twist of emotions the other man brought out in him. Desire, yes, but there was more than that. Each time he tried to pin it down, put a name to it, the feeling dissipated. Much like Audrey.

Hinting at any of this to Nicholas was out of the question. That would be cracking his heart open to a person he barely knew and didn’t trust.

Nicholas held his eyes for another tense second, then deflated. He rubbed his palms over his eyes. “Yeah, okay. Sorry, I just—you’re right. We should go to bed.”

Christ, Devon could’ve done without that visual. “Right. Let’s find you a place to lie down.”

He chose the room next to his own, for no other reason than it had a proper bed and wasn’t buried in construction material. “You’ll be all right?” he asked again before retreating to the door that connected the spaces. Watching Nicholas sit on the edge of the mattress and smooth a distracted hand over the comforter almost undid him. “I’m next door if you need anything.”

The words penetrated Nicholas’s fog. He smiled, his eyes tired and confused, but no less brilliant than usual. “Thanks. I’ll be fine. Good night.”

“Good night.”

On that note, Devon fled to his own dark and empty quarters.

About Secrets of Neverwood

Click image to view full coverThree foster brothers are called home to Neverwood, the stately Pacific Northwest mansion of their youth. They have nothing in common but a promise to Audrey, the woman they all called mother—that upon her death, they would restore the house and preserve it as a home for troubled boys.

But going home is never easy.

Cal struggles to recover from past heartbreak, while Danny fears his mistakes are too big to overcome. Devon believes he may never break down the barriers that separate him from honest emotion.

On the path to brotherhood, they discover the old mansion holds more than dusty furniture and secret passageways. Audrey’s spirit still walks its halls, intent on guiding “her boys” toward true love, and an old mystery stirs up a new danger—one that could cost the men far more than just the house.

About Libby Drew

Libby Drew glimpsed her true calling when her first story, an A.A. Milne /Shakespeare crossover, won the grand prize in her elementary school’s fiction contest. Her parents explained that writers were quirky, poor, and often talked to themselves in supermarket checkout lines. They implored her to be practical, a request she took to heart for twenty years, earning two degrees, a white-collar job, and an ulcer, before realizing that practical was absolutely no fun.

An avid supporter of gay rights, Libby donates her time to the Trevor Project and organizations that work to support marriage equality.
