Blurb: This novella takes place at the same time as Andrea’s book, right after MAGIC SLAYS, and the two stories intersect.

A dinner date after a hard day at work sounds heavenly. Of course, when that date is between the Beast Lord and Kate Daniels, things don’t go as planned. Before you know it, undead are running amok, heads are being chopped off, lawyers are deployed and used with extreme prejudice, and drunk vikings are calling people out.

This week is Urban Fantasy Week here at TBG and I really didn’t expect to have so much trouble finding a book to hold my interest.  But after 3 failed attempts, I finally decided on and stuck with Magic Gifts.  I’ve been wanting to read it since it was released and it wasn’t until I actually started it that I realized how looooooong its been since I’ve read anything from the Kate Daniels series.

Curran surprises Kate with plans for a dinner date, and of course those plans turn into a vampire attack when its driver is killed at the restaurant, leading Kate and Curran on a mission to save a little boy.

The Pros:

Plenty of sexy banter between Kate and Curran.

Kate is as kick-ass as ever.

His Furry Majesty gets naked.

There’s shifters and vampires and vikings

The Cons:

Too much going on for such a short story.

Too many characters to keep up with for such a short story.

The resolution was too complicated, yet too easy.

Now that’s I’ve finally read this, I’m really wanting to read Gunmetal Magic and see what the hell Andrea has gotten herself into.  I’m also really curious about whats going to happen with the Mercenary Guild.

Overall Impression: I Liked It

*This was once a free ARC on Amazon (the version I own), but can now be found as an extra at the end of Gunmetal Magic*
