Months after being forced to leave his lover and mate Ari Jannsen behind, Hunter Devin settles into his role as Enforcer for the newly formed Deagan Clan under the rule of his new Alpha and best friend Tristan ‘Trip’ Hagan. Along with Hunter’s brother Boone, their nephews, sister, and mother, Hunter finally has the family he’s always wanted, but without his little rebel Ari, his heart is incomplete.
The Hagan Clan is unable to accept the Deagan Clan’s betrayal for walking away and taking the clan’s pups with them. War looms. As both clans plan their attack, a greater enemy plots against them. But Hunter is determined to get his Ari back. Bonds are put to the test and unexpected alliances are made as Hunter and his clan set out to protect their own and end the spreading heartache.
Ari bared his fangs at Koschei. You might kill me, but Hunter will finish you.
Koschei’s laugh sent a chill through Ari. Your half-breed Enforcer is no match for me. I’ve killed his kind before.
Koschei sprang toward Ari, and as much as Ari tried to flee on his three good paws, it was no use. Several members of his pack blocked the burrow Ari had been hoping to make a dash for. He was surrounded. His body hit the ground with such force it knocked the breath from his body. Ari tried to curl up to keep Koschei from biting his paws and neck. His vision was blurry and his body cold. He wouldn’t last much longer.
A howl echoed in the distance, and Ari’s ears perked up. It had to be his mind playing tricks on him. Surely he’d only heard what his heart had prayed for. Again he heard the howl, and although it was most likely a figment of his imagination, maybe somewhere Hunter might feel his call. He howled as loud and as long as he could until Koschei descended on him once more. Ari pushed against the streambed with his paws despite the jolt of pain that shot through his leg. Instead of Koschei’s jaws snapping down on his neck, he caught him on the shoulder. Ari snarled and bit down on Koschei’s paw, making him yelp and bound back, but that only deterred him for a matter of seconds.
The saliva dripped from Koschei’s fangs, and Ari knew this was it. Koschei meant to finish him off. He was bracing himself as Koschei advanced when a vicious growl tore through the air. Ari lay stunned as Koschei hit a nearby tree with a pained yelp. A large body hovered over Ari, bringing a feral growl and a scent that filled him with warmth and joy. He knew that scent anywhere. Lifting his head, he couldn’t believe who was in front of him.
