Blurb: Centuries ago the Phoenix and Dragons were a force no one could penetrate. They fought together, mated together, and worked side by side, and then all that changed. The children of the leaders were dead and war had practically destroyed them all. The fighting stopped and they both went their separate ways.

Daytona was the Captain of the Crystal fire department. He loved his small town and he loved his job. However, what none of the small town knew was that he was also a dragon. Crystal was a small location just outside Denver, and it was also the home to the Phoenix. He had lived amongst them for years, hiding his scent, until the day came that he could no longer keep his secret.

When a fire claims his mother’s life, Ethan rushes home. Having your mother being a victim of an arson is not something he was prepared to face, but discovering he wouldn’t have to do it alone, should have been a relief. The thing is…that relief came in the form of a dragon, and the town believes that his mate is the cause of all the fires around town.

When the arsonist strikes close to home, Day knows he must clear his name and find the culprit that is now trying to kill his mate.

Review: I am a big fan of Maggie Walsh and when I saw she co-authored a book with Cree Storm, a new author to me, I knew I had to give it a try. I think what I love most about Maggie’s stories is that they are fast reads, but full of substance and emotion, and always have a surprise or twist in the mix. It also doesn’t hurt that the following books in the series come out at steady intervals so I am not left trying to recall what happened in the book prior.

This is a great start to a new series. I love the shifters, and here we have a nice spin with the Phoenix and Dragons. These two shifter clans have been at odds for centuries, but are now coming together, albeit grudgingly, to stop an arsonists and murderer. Daytona (great name, by the way) is a Dragon and the local Fire Chief….and the son of the king of Dragons. He is also living among the Phoenix without their knowledge. Ethan is the son of the Phoenix king, who also happens to be the mayor. These two have an instant attraction, but they meet under horrible circumstances, that just become worse.

Unbeknownst to our clans is a shifter who doesn’t want the Phoenix and Dragons to align again. His hatred and plans for revenge are nearly successful, but of course, no romance novel worth its salt is going to allow our hero’s to fail so it was just a matter of letting the story unfold and seeing how our guys react and overcome all the obstacles thrown in their path.

This is a very promising start the series and I look forward to seeing what the collaboration between Storm and Walsh present to us next.

Overall Impression: I really liked it

*I received a copy of this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review.*
