Blurb:  Jake Ross never had it easy. He’s learned to accept he won’t have the life his friends have. With an abusive alcoholic for a father and a younger brother far too good for this world, all Jake focuses on is keeping his kid brother safe.

But when their father goes one step too far and introduces Weldon to their lives, it sets off a series of events that will change all their lives.

Review: Ha! This story starts out differently than I had expected. It starts out showing us Jake, a bruised up 19 year old out at a party where he meets a much older Trey who saves him from overdosing. Though he is definitely attracted, there is clearly more going on with Jake, so Trey plays it safe and simply takes care of Jake for the evening.

It is when Jake returns home that we quickly see the extent of the problems he is facing. Unfortunately, things escalate very fast and Jake finds himself in a world of hurt it doesn’t seem he will ever be able to escape. When Weldon makes his appearance, in true Kol fashion, it is made very clear that Weldon has some major plans for Jake.

This installment is only the beginning of what promises to be everything the tags warn about and more. It is just a taste of what’s to come, and I was on the edge of my seat throughout. My heart is breaking more and more for poor Jake. Will Trey somehow end up being his savior? Will there be anything left to save? And if so, what kind of shape will he be in? Is Jake’s younger brother, Colton, destined for the same in a few years? So many questions, and I can’t wait to get to the bottom of it all.

Taboo, Book One is a very short, jam-packed exciting read. If you’re a fan of Kol’s writing, which is 99% dark and depraved, you will undoubtedly enjoy this one. It is well-written and more of everything for which he is known. If this is up your alley, be sure not to pass this one by. I’m already jonesing for the next installment!

Overall Impression: It was amazing!

*I received a copy of this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review.*
