Blurb: THIRDS Team Leader Sebastian Hobbs and Chief Medical Examiner Hudson Colbourn are as much in love now as they were nearly seven years ago when a tragic event on the job destroyed their relationship. The two drift together only to be pulled apart time and time again. When Hudson draws the interest of dangerous enemies, both within and outside the organization, Seb wants nothing more than to protect the man who still means everything to him.
As life and death events, an uncertain future, and startling truths draw Hudson and Seb to each other yet again, they must make a choice: trust their love and take strength from what they share, or lose what matters most for good this time.
Review: As much as I love Destructive Delta and all their craziness and dysfunction, I still needed to get Seb and Hudson settled before I could move on to the TIN adventures. These two guys are heartbreakers. You understand why Hudson did what he did, but you wanted to bonk him on the forehead at the same time. He crushed Seb, on so many levels, but Seb just loved him so much he decided the little bread crumbs Hudson gave him were better than nothing. Okay, I change my mind. Hudson was a knucklehead, I can empathize, to an extent, but come on, man. What surprised me, and apparently Seb, was how chaste Hudson remained. The goof was in love and committed but needed to get out of his own martyrdom head.
And, oh what a surprise our crazy Mr.Wolf turned out to be. Talk about a complete mindfuck. It was so unexpected but, at the same time, it made so much sense. I can’t wait to see how that story line plays out and have no doubt there will be some fireworks and bruised knuckles. But, as much as I loved reconnecting and fulfilling our THIRDS addiction, and as much as I am currently foaming at the mouth like a feral feline aching to get my paws on the next book, this story was a bit slow compared to the others. I am not sure why I was not as wowed, because I truly adore Seb, but the pace was bit sedate. I know, I know, you can’t be head over heals for every book in the series, but with the THIRDS, with the bar set so high, I come to expect it.
The writing is, as always, brilliantly executed. And I like the setup for the TIN adventures because we all know that’s going to bring some crazy to our wild bunch. And most of all, I am glad that we are nine books in and I don’t see an end in sight. That, my friends, is magnificent writing and how you engage your readers. I can’t wait to see where we head next.
Overall Impression: I really liked it
