Blurb: It’s the height of summer in Las Vegas. Everyone believes the serial killer Seven of Spades is dead—except Levi Abrams and Dominic Russo—and it’s back to business as usual. For Levi, that means investigating a suspicious overdose at the Mirage that looks like the work of a high-class call girl, while Dominic pursues a tough internship with a local private investigator. The one bright spot for both of them is their blossoming relationship.
But things aren’t so simple. Soon Levi is sucked into a dangerous web of secrets and lies, even as his obsession with the Seven of Spades intensifies. Dominic knows that Levi isn’t crazy. He knows the Seven of Spades is still out there, and he’ll do anything to prove it. But Dominic has his own demons to battle, and he may be fighting a losing war.
One thing is certain: the Seven of Spades holds all the cards. It won’t be long before they show their hand.
Review: If you are looking for an intense edge-of-your-seat whodunnit to invest and immerse yourself in, look no further, but definitely start with book 1 of this series. Seven of Spades started out strong right from the gate and looks to continue doing so for a long race to the finish.
Here, the story continues with Levi and Dominic continuing to explore their new relationship. They have been taking things slow after events from the first book but now seem ready to take things to the next level.
Things heat up at work as Levi is put on another murder case. When too many coincidences start occurring, Levi is more convinced than ever that the Seven of Spades has not been put to rest. Though he has been banned from pursuing it, he has continued to do so on the side, not being able to let it go. Thankfully, even through many don’t believe him or his theories, Dominic remains by his side in this as well.
Dominic is tested more than ever in this installment where his gambling issues are concerned. I so badly want these two to move somewhere else that doesn’t put them front and center with all of their problems, but that wouldn’t be much of a story then, would it? Suffice to say, Dominic and Levi back each other up more than ever as their bond grows stronger. They certainly don’t have it easy, but it seems to be helping them and their relationship as they get through each hurdle.
This segment started out a little slow for me until Levi and Dominic started putting more pieces together. We still don’t know who the SOS could possibly be – there are so many to be suspicious of! I love learning about the little nuances of Las Vegas, the meaning behind the title of this story and how it all ties in. I was once again on the edge of my seat as this story went out with another bang, and while the guys are happy for now, they clearly still have a rough road ahead. I can’t wait for the next one!
Overall Impression: I loved it!
