Blurb: Tony Gatti had his life planned: get his veterinarian license and go to work with his dad and uncle. Soon after achieving his goals, he learned the shadows and blurriness in his vision went beyond needing glasses. Retinitis Pigmentosa is a genetic mutation with no cure. With his sight almost gone, he moves into his grandmother’s St. Augustine, Florida home with his guide dog, Raven, to start life over. Nonna Concetta thinks she knows the perfect job for him. Her vet is looking for someone to destress the cats at a local rescue.
Javier didn’t plan to hire a cute former veterinarian to fill the role of cat cuddler, but Tony couldn’t be more perfect. Worried his attraction is inappropriate and knowing the holiday season always depresses him, Javier wonders if he should ask Tony out, or if he’d just be spreading the gloom to someone who already has enough of his own. But if he takes the plunge, could it turn out to be the best holiday ever?
Review:
Suffering from retinitis pigmentosa, Tony’s sight is almost gone. He now lives with his grandmother and his service dog, and Tony must completely change his life plan of wanting to be a vet, to trying to get a degree in psychology to work animals into therapy. But before that, Tony feels that he needs to earn himself money. Tony’s nonna then recommends him to try applying a job as cat cuddler for the local veterinarian.
If you are an animal lover, Jana Denardo’s Purrfect Holiday will make your heart sing!! There is an animal galore here, although mostly in the kittens’ variety, but still, they are to die for!
I loved Tony’s tenacity!! He doesn’t let his disability drags him into despair. Tony pursues another path that can still make him work with animals. Sure, he’s a little bit unconfident in the beginning before applying as cat cuddler at Javier’s office, but he gets pass that.
This is a sweet holiday story – there’s a comfort ‘switch’ happening when Tony realizes that Javier doesn’t like holiday season because of personal family reasons. So, Tony makes sure that Javier will enjoy it this year.
I did feel that Tony and Javier had similar “voice” – so I was having little trouble to differentiate the two. There were moments when I thought it was Tony talking, then remembered that Tony was NOT the vet one.
Overall Impression: I liked it
