How many times did I have to tell the rude officer questioning me—whose name I’d completely forgotten—I didn’t know anything before he finally believed it? It was as if he wasn’t listening to a word I said to him when I explained I saw the man but didn’t commit any details to memory. I had been too creeped out and unsettled by the evilness I saw.

“Wait here. Do not move from this spot,” the officer said to me, his voice laced with the annoyance I felt.

“Yes, sir,” I mumbled and crossed my arms over my chest.

“Make sure he doesn’t go anywhere,” the officer said to another cop who was hovering around us.

“Will do.”

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes and, instead, lowered them until I could see my shoes. Of course the one day I went against my normal routine, I managed to lock eyes with a potential murderer.
