Blurb: The night wolf is a legend told to scare children into obeying their parents. It is said that to control a night wolf is to harness limitless power….
Gareth Blackthorn has been Alpha of the prosperous Lydon pack for nearly two decades. Breaking with tradition, Gareth doesn’t take over other packs by challenge. Instead, he lets wolves come to him and petition for admittance. He’s had his pick of the best, the brightest, and the most talented.
Until now.
A power-hungry Alpha desires Omega Sean Adler’s talent… and his submission, whether given freely or not. He’s been on the run since he was fifteen, surviving any way he could, until one night, he knows he’ll finally succumb to the injuries from his latest attack—and he’s ready to go. That’s when Gareth finds him, and Gareth’s wolf insists on claiming Sean as his mate. But there’s something mysterious about Sean, something tied to the mark on his shoulder….
Now Gareth must decide. Will he keep Sean despite the dangers that will arise, or will he throw the young man back to the wolves?
Review:
I’m at a loss on how to review this one because on one hand, I enjoyed it but on the other hand, it was hard for me to get through. On the plus side, I liked the characters and the world building. I liked the idea behind there being a ‘night wolf’ and I enjoyed seeing how Sean, the omega, found it hard to trust anyone and I liked that Gareth, the alpha, was so patient with Sean. I liked that Sean and Gareth took things slowly and how their relationship developed. And I really enjoyed the relationships Gareth had with secondary characters.
But on the other hand, it was hard for me to accept what was happening in this book and even worse by the end of the story. I picked this one not knowing it had mpreg in it, which is fine because I adore stories with this trope but I did not like the way it was handled overall. I won’t spoiler it but when he had the babies, I was massively disappointed. Add to that, the story dragged for me at times and was a bit repetitive when it came to Sean’s previous alpha. I would have liked things to be more in depth in certain areas (like how in the world he Ryker found Sean) but especially with the whole night wolf aspect because we really had no idea what it was until the ending. Considering Sean knew the whole time, I expected to see that in the beginning and throughout the story (as a monologue at least) instead of just it being thrust onto us at the end.
All in all, this was a cute story and I ultimately enjoyed the world and the characters. I wished we had gotten a little more depth to things and the whole mpreg part was played out differently but it was a cute story. I’m interested to see what happens next and how Gareth changes the world, one pack at a time.
Overall Impression: It was good
