Redemption

by Parker Williams

Hey, Blogger Girls and friends! Thank you for having me (giggle). I’ve been asked to talk about Redemption, so without further ado…

Book two of the Links in the Chain series is called Galen’s Redemption. It follows Galen, the brother to Lincoln from book one, Lincoln’s Park, as the realization he’s no longer interested in being the man he thought he had to in order to win the approval of his father.

Galen’s brother also needed redemption for his past sins. Both men have histories that they would just as soon never happened, but they did, and they have to come to terms with it. Who among us doesn’t have something in their past they wish they could erase?

For Galen it’s the fact he’s never once stood up for anyone. He’s gone in and shut businesses down, thrown hundreds of people out of work, and all in an attempt to make someone proud of him, even though he knows deep down it’ll never happen.

What starts him on the road is a comment from his assistant, who tells him he’s too good for the place. He can’t understand what she means, because he has always believed he was cut from the same cloth as his father. But Olivia’s comment, comes on the heels of Galen’s disconcerting meeting with Robert Kotke, the owner of the shelter. Two disparate people who will each have a profound impact on Galen’s life as he searches for some kind of truth to help him find his way back from the abyss.

But what happens when you lose an ally? The first person who saw something good in you? Let’s find out by seeing an exclusive scene from the book that you’ll only find here at The Blogger Girls!

Haven’s first assignment back results in a new family member and a renewed sense of urgency to protect and avenge the innocent.

There is nothing ‘usual’ about the business of hunting predators, but when several of Haven’s fellow agents are killed, a pattern emerges. The hunters have become the prey, tools in a bitter vendetta for a perceived wrong.

Despite years of working alone, when the target shifts to someone unexpected, Haven calls in reinforcements—a friend to stand between the family he loves and a ruthless killer. Teamwork may be the only way to win this fight—unless it’s already too little, too late.

Haven tries to approach this as he would any other assignment. Find your enemy and make sure they suffer before you eliminate them. But when a member of his team goes off-book and ends up dead, everything changes. It’s no longer a battle.

Now it’s war.

Author Q&A: Parker Williams + Excerpt & Giveaway!

Interview Banner

My name is Parker Williams (or Will Parkinson if you prefer). I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with my husband, our four dogs, and three cats.

Haven’s Creed is a huge departure from anything I’ve ever done in the past. Haven is not a nice man. He’s an assassin whose job it is to protect the innocent when he can, and avenge them when he can’t.

When did you write your first story/book? How old were you?

I was 14 years old. I wrote the story of Grant and Rusty, two gay high school students who were coming out in the 80s. In my story, they didn’t even hesitate. They did it because they were in love. It’s the only story I have that survived the purge after my father told me I shouldn’t waste my time with writing, because it was never going to amount to anything.

Are you a plotter or pantser?

I’m a pantser. I tried plotting, but the characters always seem to know better, and I figure I might just as well go with the flow.

BUT! When I work with K.C. Wells, we tend to work out a timeline at the very least. We think it helps us to stick to a plan….until the characters tell us we’re not doing it right, then they want something different.

Men. Can’t live with them, can’t sell them for parts.

What do you think makes your book stand out from the crowd?

In Haven’s Creed there are a few things that are different from a lot of books. Haven isn’t a nice man. He does things that would turn most people’s stomachs, but he does it for a good reason. The thing is, after so many years of doing it, cracks are beginning to show in his armor, and he’s afraid the only way out for him is by swallowing his gun.

Then into his life comes Samuel, who is going to show Haven the good he’s done, and why he needs to keep fighting the good fight.

How do you find or make time to write?

That’s tough lately. I own Pride Promotions, and we’re busy at this time of the year, so I squeeze in writing when I can. K.C. Wells and I are working on ‘Endings and Beginnings’, the final book of the Collars & Cuffs series, and in order to do anything, I write scenes that we try to slot into the book. I love watching K.C. work. She takes what I’ve given her, and turns it into this lush, amazing story that flows so beautifully.

What do you like to read in your free time?

What is this ‘free time’ you speak of?

I love shifter stories. Silvia Violet does some of the most amazing ones, and she’s also got one of my favorite characters in Wes from the Wild R Farms series. He’s a pure human, but he’s so damned alpha that you can’t help but shiver when he’s on page. He’s paired perfectly with Tristan, a horse shifter, who longs for Wes to break him, but isn’t going to make it easy for him.

An Excerpt from Haven’s Creed

When I was fifteen, I killed my first man. Every time Arnie, the guy my mother was shacking up with at the time, drank, he got it into his head she was cheating on him. He’d start slapping her, and that turned into full-fledged beating within a few months. When he was done, he’d start on my sister.

There were nights she’d crawl into bed with me, sobbing. For the longest of times, she wouldn’t tell me what happened, but when I found blood on her pajamas, I knew. I’d tried to stand up to him, but he beat me badly enough that I couldn’t go to school for two weeks until the bruises faded. But I got off lucky. The things he did to Chrissy gave me nightmares. I’d hear her cry out and knew there was nothing I could do but hide in my bed, my pillow covering my head. He was bigger, meaner, and stronger than me, and he reminded me of that fact constantly.

The old lady never said boo about it. She always forgave him and tried to justify what he did by telling me how much stress he was under. How he was a good man and didn’t mean it. It was just the drinking, she swore. It was more like he was a bastard and she was his meal ticket.

I came home one night and found him whaling on her, my sister’s body crumpled in a heap, her head smashed in. The son of a bitch had a gun in his hand, slick with blood, and he threatened to kill them both, screaming he wouldn’t let her leave. She slapped him. It wasn’t hard, but it shocked him enough that he dropped the gun. I picked it up. He sneered at me and called me a weak-willed fag.

I looked at the gun I held in my hand. The instrument of my revenge. The means to saving my sister.

“Give me the gun, you fuck. It’s not a dick, you wouldn’t know what to do with it.”

The bullet I put in his forehead showed him how wrong he was. He lay on the floor, blood bubbling from the wound, and his eyes locked on mine as he took his last breath. I wanted that fucker to know it was the weak-willed fag who had done this to him.

Honorary Blogger Parker Williams: Love Stinks + Giveaway!

Love Stinks

by Parker Williams

I’d always known Casey was destined to be with another man. He was just too good a character to pass up an opportunity with. In Protector of the Alpha, Casey gets sprayed several times by a skunk. The SAME skunk. I knew that was his mate, even before I wrote the parts. I had actually done a little research on skunks in Alaska and was surprised to find out there aren’t any, so Sev was unique. What I didn’t know was going to be Sev’s background. When Jake, Zak, and Casey came upon them, Sev was being beaten by the crowd for stealing food. Zak put a stop to it, and we don’t hear from Sev again until the end of the book when he drops his bombshell on Jake.

I had thought about making each book self-contained, but I liked the idea of leaving it as a cliffhanger, if for no other reason than hoping people would like the story enough to want to pick up the second part.

In this book, Sev gets his chance to shine. Casey learns the truth about his destiny from an unlikely source, who may or may not have implications for his future, and they have the chance to be the heroes for a change.

Unfortunately no one gets to be a hero without being willing to pay a price of some sort. And for these men, the price may very well be much too high.
