Exclusive Excerpt from Rules for Santa

by Susan Hawke

“How about we open presents and quit talking about my sex life with my son in the room? He doesn’t need to learn how he was made. If he didn’t figure it out in biology class, it’s too late anyway.” Davey lifted a brow in an expression that was scarily similar to the one Daddy made all the time. “Father dearest, if you think the kind of sex your having with your baby boy has anything to do with how babies are made, I think perhaps you’re the one who needs to revisit biology class. I mean, you can breed him all you want – but you two ain’t gonna be gettin’ no babies.”

Nothing Special V by A.E. Via

Atlanta’s notorious narcotics task force is at it again. They are stronger, bigger, and better than ever. Especially when a city councilman sends RECON Marine Edwin Steele – who’s been blacklisted from his Oakland department – to join the team.

Steele was ready to hang up his shield. He was done fighting with bigoted bastards that couldn’t respect the job. He was good at fighting; he just needed the right team to fight with. When his uncle – City Councilman Rasmus Steele – shows him a video of God’s team in action, he knows right away it’s where his nephew belongs in order to restore his faith.

Steele was skeptical about his new placement, but when he meets God’s technology specialist/computer genius, “Tech”, he’s willing to give it his all, and he definitely shows and proves.

Tech is stunning. His sweater vest and khakis, a stark contrast to the blue-jeaned roughnecks he works with. A beautiful sheep amongst the wolves. Steel thinks there’s no way the brilliant man would be interested in a hardhead like him, but Tech has a few badass hidden talents of his own and manages to surprise him…surprise all of them.

In This Bed of Snowflakes We Lie by Sophia Soames: Exclusive Excerpt + Free Download!

Exclusive Excerpt from In This Bed of Snowflakes We Lie

by Sophia Soames

Everyone is cheering, hastily moving up on the sofa so bums can find seats, the kids excitedly wriggling around on the floor, and baby Lottie once again gets placed on Oskar’s lap. He doesn’t mind. He doesn’t mind at all.

“Babies are good for the soul. Did you know that it is a medically proven fact that having a baby in your arms will lower your blood pressure and calm you down? However tense or anxious you may be, you will automatically direct some of your oxytocin stash towards the baby to ensure the baby is safe and loved. The body is quite amazing, don’t you think, Oskar?” Erik’s mum has squeezed herself down between Oskar and Uncle Asbjørn, who is almost bouncing up and down with excitement, holding a giant black bin liner in his grip.

“Really?” Oskar stutters, but he thinks she may have a point as he pulls Lottie to his chest, sniffs her hair, feeling a little bit silly as he does it, but he can’t help himself. He likes it. He likes it almost as much as the fact that Erik’s head is leaning on his shoulder again. It’s comforting. Safe. And, if Oskar is very honest with himself, it does funny things to his stomach. Like the butterflies that flap around in there whenever he looks at Erik. Not that there is much fluttering room left after everything Oskar has stuffed in his mouth since breakfast.

“She likes you too, Oskar.” Emmy laughs and throws herself on Holger’s lap. “And honestly, it’s nice to have all these other people to help entertain her. Gives my arms a break.”

Silence!!!” Uncle Asbjørn hollers, and everyone sits up straighter, giggling nervously. The children on the floor all cover their faces in anticipation.

“Thank you!” He continues, “Oskar, since you are our newest addition to the family, let me start by apologising. You have done nothing to deserve this.” He bows his head, and everyone laughs, including Oskar, because to be honest, Uncle A looks so excited that he will probably combust if he is not allowed to go on in peace.

“Oskar, I spent my entire working career dressing people, styling people for formal occasions and events. And now, when I am retired, I am finally allowed to have some fun. And you lot very kindly allow me to indulge in getting back at you for all the pranks and grief you give me throughout the year. So, the yearly tradition continues as I, the great Asbjørn Hansen, stylist to the stars, get to dress you all for Christmas dinner.”

He does a little bow again, as the family cheer and roar.

“Last year we were all dressed as Christmas Stormtroopers, except Mum and Dad who were Princess Leia and Darth Vader. It was bloody brilliant. We will have to show you the photos.” Elise is squealing with laughter.

“The year before we were all characters from Frozen. I loved that. I have worn my Elsa dress to parties. It’s just gorgeous.” Emmy sighs, all dreamy, whilst Linus actually looks up from his phone.

“My Olaf costume doesn’t fit anymore. Such a shame. It was absolutely epic.”

“So, what on earth have you got planned this year, Uncle A?” Erik actually looks a little worried. Fidgeting slightly under the cushion he has firmly wedged on his lap.

“Well, you have all been awfully brilliant this year, so I thought I would be kind. I read somewhere about this thing called ‘Furries’.”

“Fuck,” Emmy blurts out. “Can I impose a total Facebook ban, please. No photos anywhere.” And Elise slaps her over the head.

“No swearing in front of the kids.”

“It is all going on my public Insta, I absolutely insist! Now, back to Furries.” Uncle A continues, his giggles threatening to tumble out of his mouth with every word, holding back laughter as Holger is about to explode into a knitted Santa, and Geir is burying his head in Elise’s back.

“I have decided, that for this year we should all be comfortable for Christmas Dinner, so we are all going to be Furries. And before you drag me off and shout at me, we are not going to be the adult variety of Furries. There will be no X-rated action in these suits. Let me indulge you, my darlings, into the super-soft wonder that is animal onesies.”

“Onesies were kind of in three years ago, Uncle A,” Linus sighs.

“I know, young man, but Uncle A can do whatever he likes. So, suck it up and get dressed.” Uncle Asbjørn laughs and starts throwing out neatly wrapped parcels around the room.

Oskar has laughed. He has laughed a lot in his life, but he has never laughed to the point of feeling like he is about to throw up all over the baby on his lap. Because, seriously, Erik’s Mum is dressed as a giant unicorn, complete with a horn on her head. And she is clearly loving it, dancing around the room with her husband, who is dressed like a giant bear. There is a strange looking raccoon, a giant koala, Elise is a squirrel, and they are all in hysterics trying to figure out what on earth Holger is, whilst Geir is a spotty dog, and Linus is looking remarkably smug in his jet-black gorilla outfit.

It’s Erik though. Erik who stands there in his giraffe onesie, looking like he should be on a catwalk in Milan. He looks pretty amazing, just standing there taking in the chaos around him, whilst everyone else is wiping their eyes and trying to gather up the masses of wrapping paper on the floor.

“So, we have to wear this for dinner?” Oskar asks as he unfolds the soft white fabric on his lap, which Lottie is trying to get her teeth into. Lottie, who Oskar has quite masterfully managed to dress in her ladybug onesie. She is already trying to get one of the antennae in her mouth, the hood on the onesie half covering her face as she tugs and drools and squeals.

“Nope.” Linus smiles. “The rules are, you pretty much have to live in whatever Uncle A dresses you in for the rest of Christmas. Rules are rules. If you are part of this family, you pretty well must live with the fact that you can’t leave the house until after New Year’s, because you are probably dressed up as something weird.” He laughs evilly at Oskar. “Good luck with that, Mr Cat!”

“Remember that year when we were all dressed up as cartoon superheroes? It was bloody hilarious!” Erik’s dad is walking around in his bear suit, like it’s the most normal thing in the world, whilst Oskar places Lottie on the floor so he can slide into his suit.

Oskar is now dressed as a cat. A giant, white, soft cat, and Emilia is jumping into his arms shouting, “We are almost twins, Oskar. I’m a tiger and you are an arctic big cat! Like a polar cat!”

And suddenly it’s just a little heavy. A tiny bit too much. A bit overwhelming as he hugs Uncle A, and high-fives Ludwig in his racoon onesie, whilst still carrying Emilia around with her arms tight around his neck.

He needs a breather. Just a little space.

He looks over at Erik. Erik, who is laughing and dancing baby Lottie around the room.

Erik, who is dressed like a giraffe and who Oskar wants to hug. He wants one of Erik’s hugs. His strong all-consuming hugs where his hands never stop moving over Oskar’s back, and his face is buried in Oskar’s neck. He is a little bit shocked at admitting that. That he likes it. That he likes it so much he is actually shaking a little just at the thought of stealing one. Of maybe doing what Erik had said. Tapping him twice on the arm and begging to be just taken away from here, just for a little while, so he can calm down. Remember who he really is.

Because, right now, he has no idea who Oskar Høiland is anymore.

The Lowest Realm by Amy-Alex Campbell: Exclusive Excerpt!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from The Lowest Realm

by Amy-Alex Campbell

Nika was woken abruptly with a kick to the stomach. Several torches lit up the dark room, the bright light burning his eyes, and a sword was pointed in his face. He and Freyne were surrounded by soldiers, wearing bronze chest plates over red doublets, and bronze pointed helms. Nika realised they were the soldiers he had seen leaving Rybor three weeks ago.

A large soldier with a long black moustache and beard, with slightly darker skin pushed his way into the room, eyeing Nika and Freyne laying together, topless, and he spat on Nika’s face.

“Disgusting abomination,” he snarled, turning to his men. “Take them!”

Nika and Freyne were roughly pulled to their feet, and their hands tied behind their backs. Someone punched Nika in his mouth, making him see stars and taste blood. He felt Freyne struggle next to him, and someone hit him hard over the head, knocking him unconscious to the ground.

Nika was dragged from the room and into the corridor, where Ur’Shad and Iryna stood under guard, swords held to their necks and their hands also bound. Blood was trickling from Ur’Shad’s nose, and he swayed slightly, dazed. Iryna looked terrified.

Chardi and Lana were shoved into the hall from their room, a large cut bleeding across Chardi’s bare chest; Lana was sobbing and shaking.

“Move it out,” someone barked, and Nika was shoved roughly forward towards the stairs. He tried to look over his shoulder to see where Freyne was, but his captor hit him again, almost making him fall.

They were marched in single file through the ship and down the gang plank, and Nika managed to catch a glimpse of Freyne being carried by two of the soldiers. They were met by more soldiers on the dock, and the captain’s voice floated to Nika on the wind.

“Take them to the lowest level of the dungeon, we’ll leave them there to rot. As for those two filthy dogs, we’ll schedule them for public castration and dismemberment on charges of sodomy. That should send a clear message to anyone else who may be considering such putrid behaviour. But the princess is not to be harmed, take her to my office above the dungeons and lock her in there, until the ship is ready to sail. There is a lord who will pay quite handsomely for her.”

An order was passed along the line, and Nika was roughly shoved forward. His heart pounded in his chest and he felt sick to his stomach. He hardly felt his hangover. He walked in silence, following Chardi and the soldiers, and they left the docks.

The sun had still not risen; they marched by torch light along the docks. Sailors and deck hands gave the soldiers a wide berth, scrambling out of the way and eyeing the prisoners wearily.

They marched up a small steep hill towards a large menacing stone building which overlooked the dock. The soldier pushed Nika and his friends inside, and dragged them through a maze of passageways.

Release Blitz: Across the Pond by RJ Scott & V.L. Locey + Giveaway!

Across the Pond by RJ Scott & V.L. Locey

The greatest journey isn’t from England to the States, it’s the one that two men take on the way to find each other.

Sebastian Brown is on a mission to rescue the Arizona Raptors and a vow he made to a friend in college. Either that or he’s on vacation. He’s not entirely sure that he’s made up his mind yet. Either way, traveling from England, to the arid desert of Arizona isn’t exactly a picnic, particularly with the doubts and worries he takes with him. He’s turned even the worst of companies around, but faced with the challenge of improving the reputation of a hockey team that everyone seems to hate, he knows his work is cut out for him.

Focus is key, but that is easier said than done when Seb is sent into a tailspin by the intriguing Alejandro. Seb’s entire marketing plan hinges on making Alex a poster boy for equality and fair play. But with Alex’s utter dedication to the game, and his dark secretive eyes, the gorgeous Alex is stubborn, opinionated, doesn’t want any part of being the team focus, and worst of all, doesn’t appear to like Seb at all. It takes everything that Seb has to keep his hands off of Alex, but things get out of hand and Seb’s life might never be the same again.

Alejandro Garcia has had to work hard to get where he’s at. Born to Mexican immigrants, his siblings and himself have never had it easy in this new country their parents dreamed of calling home. A native son of Arizona, Alex has always been the odd man out on the ice but he’s not going to let a stupid thing like his heritage get in the way of his dreams. He’s now a Raptor and he plans to put all that training and collegiate hockey experience to good use. Working hard comes naturally to him. It’s something his parents have instilled in him from the time he was a toddler. Being one of a handful of Latino hockey players makes him strive for success with even more determination. His first pro season has had some ups but a lot more downs, but Alex is one stubborn young man and failure is not an option.

As the Raptors struggle to rebuild not only their team but their core values, Alex finds himself drawn to one of the owner’s friends, a tall, lanky Brit with the face of an angel and an accent and attitude that bewitches and befuddles him. Sebastian is everything he thought he would never be attracted to but he can’t push the sexy, older, fun-loving man out of his thoughts. If ever there were a man he would not be able to take home to his parents – not that he can bring a man home since he is deeply closeted – it’s Sebastian, but desire knows no socioeconomic, age, or international borders. The heart wants what the heart wants and Alejandro’s wants Sebastian.

Yuletide Treasure by Eliot Grayson: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from Yuletide Treasure

by Eliot Grayson

Tim had paused in his copying some minutes before, his pen set carefully to one side, and was regarding Sypeman surreptitiously — and a bit warily, for all the man looked like he couldn’t hurt a fly. Ever since he’d fled to his own desk like all the demons were after him, he’d been hunched over a heap of old rubbishy bits of foolscap covered in crabbed writing that made Tim’s eyes and brain hurt even from across the room.

The suspicion that Eben Sypeman might be mad as a March hare had crept up on him a bit, as he sat and watched.

It really always was the pretty ones that were a bit dicked in the nob. Story of Tim’s life. Odd as Sypeman was, he was well worth looking at: the prettiest blue eyes Tim’d ever seen, and a handsome face under his waving black hair, despite the frowning and scowling. He could stand to get a little sunshine, but if he smiled Tim might forget all about the muttering and shuffling of papers, and the way he’d looked like he wanted to throw Tim down the stairs. Not that he’d have managed it, even with Tim’s mangled leg, but the impulse had been there, Tim would swear to it.

Sypeman grasped one of the papers before him in both hands, shook it a little, and made a muffled sound somewhere between a groan and a cough.

Tim caught up his pen again, so as not to be caught out in his shirking. “Mr. Sypeman, are you all right?”

The man jolted upright and dropped the paper, then looked up and fixed Tim with those bright eyes. Too bright; Sypeman looked downright wild. “Why do you ask?”

Why indeed? If the fellow didn’t realize how strangely he was behaving, Tim wouldn’t be the one to tell him. He shrugged, and it looked like Sypeman’s gaze flickered down Tim’s body a bit as he did. Interesting. “You made a strange sound, sir. Sorry. Not quite a cough. I thought you might be choking.”

“I did?” Sypeman really did seem genuinely confused. Good gods, but what was in those bits of scrawled nonsense that could keep his attention so fixed?

Tim shrugged again. “You did, but I shouldn’t’ve interrupted. Sorry.”

“No, it’s all right,” Sypeman said. “Though I don’t know what I could have choked on, besides frustration.” Timothy’s eyebrows went up, and he wished he could see the papers more clearly from where he sat. It was two days to Yuletide. What could have Sypeman so worked up just before a holiday, when no one ever did anything important? “This ledger is rather dense,” Sypeman added lamely.

Tim stared for a moment. Sypeman really was mad. Either that, or he thought Tim was blind, or an idiot. Or, not to ignore any possibilities, he was hallucinating entirely and thought Tim was a talking horse, or a tree, or gods only knew what. That would at least explain why his eyes had gone as wide as saucers when he saw Tim on the stairs.

“You’re not looking at a ledger,” he said carefully.

“How would you know?” Sypeman snapped, his fingers twitching toward his pile of papers again.

Tim stood, slowly and a little painfully after staying in one position for too long, and took up his cane from where it leaned against his dad’s desk. Perhaps the wiser thing to do would’ve been to simply walk out the door and forget about those shillings. But over the half hour or so Tim had been watching, Sypeman had gone from miserable to looking downright ill. There was something wrong, be it madness or not, and he couldn’t leave Sypeman alone here. It wouldn’t be right.

So instead, he stiffly made his way across the small stretch of floor separating the desks, coming to a stop at the end of the desk rather than in front of it, just a foot from Sypeman’s chair. His shadow fell across the desk. Sypeman scooted his chair back a few inches and tipped his head back, frowning. Perhaps Tim shouldn’t have loomed quite so much, but too late now. Sypeman moved as if he meant to stand, and Tim went rigid. If he stood they’d be chest to chest, so better if he stayed put — but no, that put Sypeman’s plush lips just at the level of the front of Tim’s trousers, and gods, but that was worse.

Thank every deity Sypeman tipped his head back against the chair to look up into Tim’s face, because his cock wanted to rise in response to the view. Oh, it had been too long, far too long, since Tim touched another man.

“Mr. Sypeman.” Timothy sighed and shook his head, trying to find the words. A fascinating flush began to spread up from under Sypeman’s collar, tinting his cheeks peony-pink. “You’ve already looked through the ledgers. And clearly, whatever you wanted wasn’t in ’em. Now you’re grasping at straws, and those straws aren’t in a book, which is what a ledger is. Just in case you had any real doubts that I know what one is.”

“I — I don’t —”

“I’m not offended. And you don’t care if I am, in any case, so don’t go making excuses,” Tim said levelly. It wasn’t a lie; how could the ravings of a madman offend him, anyway? But what had set off Sypeman’s bout of insanity? The answer came to him after a moment. “Your partner, Mr. Marney, died last week.” Sypeman only nodded, his lips pressed tightly together. “So whatever you’re looking for, it’s something he would have known, I’m guessing. Something bad. Or something that you need to find out to keep something else bad from happening,” Timothy went on. Sypeman’s dropped jaw and frightened eyes told him he’d hit close enough to the truth. “I’m not much of a clerk, I know it. And you don’t know me. But I’m the only one here, and you’re clearly not getting anywhere on your own. You should tell me what’s got you in such a lather.”

Sypeman clearly hadn’t been expecting that. “I should? I mean, of course I shouldn’t!”

“Why not? What’ve you got to lose, Mr. Sypeman?” Tim found himself leaning forward a little, holding his breath, hoping more than was strictly sensible that Sypeman would just talk to him. He’d heard from his dad that Sypeman had few friends, didn’t go out much in society, and generally kept to himself. He was quite possibly just as lonely as Tim, who lived with a large and boisterous family and still felt, sometimes, that he was a fixed point just outside of it. It felt important, somehow, that he reach out to this man who so clearly needed a friend.

Heroes: Eben & Tim
Genre: M/M Historical Fantasy
Length: 130 pages
Publisher: Smoking Teacup Books

Blurb: There’s not enough Yuletide spirit in the world to fix this holiday disaster…

Eben Sypeman’s world is falling apart. It’s two days before Yule and his business partner is dead, leaving behind empty accounts and looming bankruptcy. And if that isn’t bad enough, his patron goddess is irritated with him. It seems she’s tired of his tendency to mince words and avoid conflict. She’s insisting—quite forcefully—that he start being totally honest with everyone, including himself. Divinely enforced honesty couldn’t have come at a less opportune time, especially when his clerk’s tall, dark and distractingly handsome son enters the picture.

The last thing on Tim Pratchett’s mind is romance. All the former soldier wants is to fill in for his sick father at work and recover from his war wounds in peace. But there’s something about the grumpy Eben that confounds and entices him in equal measure. Their timing couldn’t be worse. They’re complete opposites. And yet…none of that matters when he’s with Eben.

But if Eben and Tim have any hope of finding their very own happily ever after, they’ll have to survive a dickens of a truth curse and the machinations of a trickster goddess—all while searching for enough yuletide treasure to save them all.

A joyous, relaxing Yule indeed. Bah, humbug.

This is an M/M romance with explicit scenes, a voyeuristic pagan goddess, and an odious nephew. Despite any other possible similarities to A Christmas Carol, there are neither ghosts nor geese, but readers can expect a happy ending and at least one use of the word “dickens.”
