Exclusive Excerpt from As I am

“So, I take it you and Rob are familiar with each other?” he asked, sarcasm dripping from his words as they fell from that lopsided smile I wanted to kiss off his face.

“He’s the asshole ex,” I responded plainly, tipping my head over to a gazebo to the side of the lot. We walked in silence, only the sound of gravel crunching under our feet accompanying us. We settled onto the old, wooden bench, careful not to get too many splinters. Facing the star-filled sky, I chewed on my words in my head. Who was I to Chase, after all? No more than a one-time fuck. That’s all it boiled down to. Whether I felt a connection to him or not, it didn’t matter. Yet, despite knowing I had no right to ask, I asked, “Why are you here with him?” And the second the words were out of my mouth, I regretted speaking them. The less I knew about Rob, the better.

But before I could take back my words, Chase answered my question, only muddying the matter even more. “I have no clue,” he muttered, running his hand through his messy hair. The silence settled around us, but it was an easy one. Only the sound of Chase speaking cut through it. “Do you think about that night?” he asked, his voice paper thin.

At even the slightest mention of it, my body sat on edge. Did I think about it? Only every night. But there was no way in hell I could tell him. Shrugging, I answered, “Not really,” sounding not the least bit convincing.

Chase heard the change in my voice, the raspy neediness I’d never be able to conceal when I thought about him touching my body. “Really?” he asked, cocking his head to the side, his lips pulling into a wickedly crooked smile. “Never?” he taunted, nudging me playfully with his shoulder.

Even the slightest touch from his body had heat racing all over my skin. “No.” The word stuck in my throat, amplifying my neediness beyond all reason.

In the blink of an eye, he moved from his seat and stood in front of me. Wedging himself between my legs, his placed his hands on my thighs. My muscles twitched under the not-so-gentle caress of his fingertips. “Not even at night? When you crawl into bed all by yourself?” he asked, moving his fingers up my thighs with every word, inching his way closer to my hardening cock. “When you can’t fall asleep because you’re thinking of me, you don’t touch yourself?” He pressed his body into mine. His dick pressed against mine and a fire of heat flashed across my body. “You don’t stroke yourself? Eyes closed? Thinking of me? Pretending it’s my hand on your dick instead of your own?” His mouth was so close to my ear, his breath cascaded over my skin, making me shiver with need. “You don’t come, your body shaking, with my name on your lips?”

On his last word, he nibbled on my earlobe, forcing a groan to rumble from my chest. But my pride got the best of me. “No,” I lied.

“Liar,” he accused, before pulling away from me.

It could’ve been a game for all I knew, but I sure as fuck didn’t care. My fingers wrapped around his wrist, pulling him back to me in a hard crash. “And you?” I asked, my lips no more than a centimeter from his.

His eyes searched mine as if he actually needed clarification. Swallowing hard, he said nothing which offered me the perfect opportunity to toy with him, just as he’d toyed with me.

“Do you think of me when you jerk yourself off? Wish it was my mouth instead of your hand?” Letting the few drinks I’d had earlier take over my good senses, I nipped at his neck. But just as I’d feared, one taste of Chase would never be enough. “You don’t crave my body?” I asked, my words heavy with the desire I’d been carrying around, a burden like no other, for the last few weeks. On a coarse whisper, I asked, “You don’t want my body again? The way I want yours?”

His body melted into my touch. Leaning into his neck even more, I inhaled his scent, needing it to be part of me more than the oxygen filling my lungs. “Just tell me,” I spoke, my lips moving against his skin. “Tell me to stop. And you can walk right back in there to him, and I’ll leave you alone.”

His head fell backward, exposing more of his neck to my lips and teeth. And who was I to deny him what he wanted? Digging my hands into the flesh of his ass, I pulled his body against mine, grinding my cock against his in what was far too close to reckless abandon for a public space.

“I can’t,” he rasped, leaning into my kiss. “With you…” He groaned, his breathlessness setting me off like nothing ever had. “With you, I just can’t.”

“Thank fucking God, because I can’t keep my hands off you for another second.” His words were all I needed to take his body. The way he rolled his hips into mine let me know I wasn’t taking a damn thing; he was giving it to me. All of it. He was mine and I was his.

The Weekend Bucket List by Mia Kerick: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from The Weekend Bucket List

by Mia Kerick

We already know where we’re going when we get into Cooper’s old Honda Civic. Over the past week, we’ve invested serious time talking about our greatest fears. And these were intense discussions. At first, we admitted to stuff we already knew about each other, like how I’m freaked out at the idea of getting lice and how he hates having sticky fingers. I then reaffirmed that I’m not much of a spider fan, and he owned up to his severe discomfort with the movie Jaws, but soon the discussions shifted to things we’d never confided to each other. He now knows that I would rather endure a twenty-four-hour stomach flu than speak aloud in public, and I know Cooper would do about anything to avoid flying in an airplane over a large body of water, which I figure has a lot to do with his shark-phobia. These conversations enlightened me—especially when Cooper disclosed that he can’t go number two in a public restroom. Probably TMI, but I tucked it into my memory bank, nonetheless.

We eventually settled on something that would force us to deal with a fear we both need to outgrow and would pull us out of the comfort zones in which we’ve so far wasted all of our teen years. Conveniently, we can stare our mutual fear in the face at the traveling carnival that is set up in the movie theater parking lot a couple of towns south of Wellington. Continue reading

Rhoades: Undeniable by Felice Stevens: Exclusive Excerpt!

Exclusive Excerpt from Rhoades: Undeniable

by Felice Stevens

He mesmerized. Captivated and enthralled me. I’d watched Austin dance for months, his grace and poise outstanding in the crowd of dissolute men waiting by the stage to paw at him. A true master of his emotions, he’d matured from a skittish deer hiding in the shadows to a man taking his rightful place as the king of the club.

Everyone wanted him.

I couldn’t be angry with Austin for leaving me in this dingy back room when I’d broken every rule I’d set for myself by kissing him. The blame for Austin’s flight rested solely on my shoulders. All it took was one touch.… One simple, devastating kiss and the tight check on my emotions unraveled, sending everything I held together for years spilling out in wild abandon. I lost control. It both shattered and bewildered me, and I hated that. I was always in control.

At the sound of frantic knocking, I buttoned up my shirt and redid my tie with cool precision. A swift glance in the mirror to check and make sure all looked well on the outside and then I opened the door.

“Where is he?” James burst into the room. “Where’s Austin?”

“Hello to you too.” I smoothed my hair and gave him a lazy smile.

“Don’t give me your bullshit now. This is serious.”

I couldn’t recall the last time I’d seen James anything but coolly elegant. Now, his tie was askew and unknotted, and the blond hair he normally wore perfectly styled lay stuck to his forehead in sweat-darkened strands. Tension coiled through me, and I gripped his arm. Hard. “What’s wrong?” I squeezed, and James grunted in pain. “Tell me.”

Ignoring me as he’d always done since we were teenagers, James twisted out of my grasp. “I need to find Austin because wherever he is, hopefully Frankie’s with him.”

“Oh?” My rapidly banging heart settled back to normal, and I smirked. “Don’t tell me you’ve got a crush on little Frankie?”

With a wrinkle of his elegant nose, James looked every bit like a refined Englishman disdainfully peering down on one of his serfs. But my brother couldn’t pull his bullshit off on me.

Book Blast! Omega Sacrifice by Quinn Michaels: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from Omega Sacrifice

by Quinn Michaels

Zeke didn’t even have time to flinch before the alpha grabbed his wrist. The heat of his touch, the scent of him, held Zeke somewhere between lust and fear. “Don’t hurt me,” Zeke said, stupidly. “My pack will know if something happens to me.”

Right, if you found a way to tell them. If not, you’d just be another idiot omega lost in the woods. Why not just hand the handsome alpha a knife and beg him to slit your throat, why don’t you?

“I won’t. I’d never hurt you.”

Devon sounded sincere. He pulled Zeke closer. Zeke looked up and felt the heat of Devon’s breath on his forehead. Devon ran the pad of his thumb on Zeke’s cheek, below his eye. “Why were you crying?”

Silas and his rejection seemed a faraway problem, considering the alpha in front of him. Zeke shrugged. “It’s not important.”

“You’re beautiful.”

Zeke laughed. Even at his best, he could be described as cute. Beautiful was for the thin and graceful omegas with long limbs and flat, glistening abdomens above narrow hips and shapely legs. Beautiful was for the omegas that could run without wheezing. The ones who didn’t need to make an ass out of themselves to get noticed. “What are you really doing here?”

“Just running.”

“I need to take you to see Don. And meet the pack.” And Zeke wanted to do that too. He wanted to show off this handsome alpha who had called him beautiful. Even if the compliment was meant to be a distraction from why he was really sneaking around the Pine Creek Lake settlement.

“I can’t,” Devon said. “Not now.”

Zeke breathed deeply and opened his mouth to scream as loudly as he could. Before he could make a sound, the alpha’s lips were on his, and they were kissing. Hard and demanding, the heat of Devon’s mouth sent tingles through Zeke’s body. He pulled the alpha closer, grabbing him by the hips until he felt Devon’s hard cock through the sodden fabric of the sweatpants against Zeke’s pelvis.

Hard for him.

The scream was forgotten. Everything was forgotten except for the velvet planes of Devon’s body, the sweet dominance of his kiss, and his hands, letting go of Zeke’s wrists to wrap Zeke in a tight embrace.

Zeke was panting when Devon broke the kiss. But unlike usual, the faint dizziness from lack of air was another reminder of the pleasure and desire Zeke felt.

Devon hugged him tightly, pressing Zeke’s cheek to his neck.

Was this what it meant to find your true mate? If so, Zeke never wanted it to end. But maybe that’s what Gale had felt too with his first alpha. Just because hormones threw Devon and Zeke together didn’t mean that he would have a good life with Devon. It could all be a trick. It probably was a trick. What would a handsome, perfectly formed alpha want with Zeke?

Zeke couldn’t deny the evidence of the other man’s arousal, but that didn’t prove anything.

“Why are you here?” Zeke asked again. From the darkness behind him, another voice, sardonic and a touch cruel, asked, “Yes, cousin, why don’t you tell the sweet, plump omega what we are doing here? Or would you rather I just ripped out his throat?” Continue reading

Honorary Blogger Nicholas Bella: A Note From Théoden + Excerpt & Giveaway!

A Note From Théoden

by Nicholas Bella

I told Nicholas to take a break because I wanted to do this blog post. It’s my book after all, I should be the center of attention. It was only a matter of time before the fans would want to know more about me. I started getting the fan mail, asking for my history. So many questions, they had. How did I become a vampire? What kind of person was I before it happened? How did I choose my sons? How did I learn about my powers?

Humans are such nosey beings, and normally, I wouldn’t have paid these letters and emails any attention. But, I couldn’t help but be a little bit flattered that I was on their minds. So, I sat down with Nicholas and we decided to give the fans what they’ve been desiring for years. My story.

Within the pages of this book, you will learn everything you need to know about me. All of your questions are answered and then some. Just make sure when you read my book, to give me your undivided attention, because I don’t like to share.

Now, as you know you want to do… give yourself to me. – Théoden. Continue reading

Life is a Stevie Wonder Song by V.L. Locey: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from Life is a Stevie Wonder Song

by V.L. Locey

A sharp rap on the door a week later jolted me out of my zone. My eyes were dry. I looked over my shoulder at the door, my mind still lingering on the rambling oration I had been writing. No, it was not the next Mick Dell. What I had been writing for the past two days was literary vomit, if I were being honest. It was stream-of- consciousness crap for sure, a fifteen page run-on sentence hidden under the regurgitation of masticated wordage. By God, it felt good to put words on virtual paper, even if it was just journaling.

“Come in,” I called loudly over Hall & Oates on the record player. Declan peeked around the door. A slight arrhythmia occurred in my chest. I hurried to save and close the Word document. A lot of what I had been spewing out revolved around the young man entering my space. For as slight as he was, he certainly filled the bungalow. “Would you like a beer?”

He smiled in that weird whimsical way of his then rushed over to stand in front of the old portable record player I toted everywhere.

“Wow, you have vinyl.”

I closed my laptop and placed it on the round table in front of the loveseat.

“A whole box,” I offered as I pushed to my bare feet.

I noticed that Declan had no shoes once more. He had nice feet. Small and well formed. My feet belonged on an orangutan, according to my daughter. “Do I have to card you?”

He laughed softly and shook his head. His hair flowed around his head with the movement. The lamp highlighted small streaks of summer gold amid the dark brown.

“I’m twenty-two. Man, these are awesome.” He dropped to his knees to flip through the box of albums. I went to the fridge as he whispered to himself. “I don’t know any of these bands,” he told me after I tapped his shoulder with a cold one. He was clad in brown cargo shorts and a white tank top that showed his toned arms. The shirt hung off him. Declan took the beer, sipped it gingerly, set it beside him on the floor, and continued examining my music.

I sat down on the loveseat, wildly curious about what had brought this photographer of fey creatures to my door this evening. For a long while, I contented myself with simply enjoying his reactions to some of the more obscure groups he found. His face and eyes were expressive, amazingly so at times. He barely touched his beer. After about ten minutes passed, the record needed turning over. I rose and walked over to the desk the player rested on.

“So, what brings you here tonight?” I asked casually as I lifted the needle from the record and flipped it over. When he didn’t reply, I looked down at him. His gaze rested on me. A surge of raw lust raced through me to see him kneeling there. The album nearly slid from my fingers. What was going on with me? I was straight. I had been married three times and had a child two years younger than this capricious young man.

“It’s a full moon. Do you want to come capture the fey on film with me?”

God yes. “Really?” I asked as I lined up the hole in the album with the spindle. “Sure.”

Declan smiled. His teeth were white and straight. I wanted to kiss him. No, it was more than a mere want. It was a crazy, irrational, wild need to kiss him, taste him, and feel him pressed tightly to me. My cock began to lengthen. I turned from him sitting there on his calves so enticingly.

“I’ll be back at midnight,” he announced as he sprang to his feet. “Wear as little as possible.”

“Okay.”

Out he went. A June bug flew in as Declan exited.

The massive beetle bounced around the lampshade. The crickets outside quieted as my captivating guest bounced through the grass. I let the album slide down the spindle, then bent over to pick up the bottle of beer my neighbor had left behind. Would it be too weird to drink after him hoping to taste him on the glass?

Honorary Blogger Lynn Kelling: Writing a Deaf Main Character + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Writing a Deaf Main Character

by Lynn Kelling

My new release, Hush, isn’t the first book in which I’ve written a deaf character, but it is the first time I’ve done so with the main character—Rune, the main character of Hush, first appeared as a secondary character in my novel Bare. I was so thrilled and energized to tell Rune’s point of view as someone with a different means of communicating, that the story flowed quickly onto the page. He doesn’t speak and is recently, completely deaf. Because of this, he is quite focused on the before and after of when he lost his hearing. He’s learning how to let go of the life he had before the motorcycle accident that caused several injuries, and actively figuring out how to adapt to brand new circumstances. The people in his life are not experts at American Sign Language, to say the least, but technology (and patience) help fill in most of the gaps.

As the writer of this story, having a point of view from a main character who rarely engages in traditional dialogue with quote marks posed some technical challenges. I needed to decide how I was going to convey exchanges in sign language, or in written form via mobile apps or old school notepads. It was crucial to me that dialogue still be recognizable as just that, even without the visual cue of quote marks, so that the narration of the story is distinguishable from the conversations. For the most part, italics are used for this purpose in Hush. In my research, I saw this approach in other novels with deaf characters who sign and don’t speak (such as Joe Hill’s The Fireman), and it seemed to work well. I also describe the way the signs look wherever it adds to the scene or story, though I didn’t want to be too heavy-handed with descriptive passages either.

Aside from the practical hurdles, I really enjoyed getting to tell a good portion of Hush from the point of view of someone who struggles to fit into a world that doesn’t make it easy to do so for people who are differently-abled. Rune doesn’t ask for much of others—just to be recognized as an equally-valid presence and given some respect. He’s seen people let their gaze slide over him, avoiding interactions that might challenge them. He’s well familiar with how things might be awkward in some cases, such as using apps like Grindr to hook up with guys, when there’s a chasm of silence standing in the way once it’s time to meet face-to-face.

But this story isn’t about his hearing loss. It’s about the choice to not live life as a victim, but as someone capable of making positive change in the world. Rune’s not interested in becoming the guy he was before the crash. He wants to be better, stronger, braver, and he wants it all to mean something in the end.

I found there’s a lot of beauty and humanity in the ways Rune communicates. He’s always mentally engaged, putting more effort than most of us do into everything he tells people, just in trying to make himself understood. So, it could be seen that the things he tells others carry more weight. He uses body language more than my characters usually do. He’s an expert at reading a room, and because he’s become used to watching people’s movements closely for signs of them trying to speak or sign to him, not much gets passed him. There’s an added intimacy to his ASL conversations, to the letters he writes, the texts he sends, because most of the time they’re intended only for the eyes of the recipient. He does feel isolated because of his deafness, so any small gesture of simple human kindness that’s extended his way is absolutely treasured.

I learned a lot by living in his world, and found it’s a really beautiful place to be. Continue reading
