“WHY ARE YOU FACETIMING me when you’re on vacation with your husband?” Mere asked me.

“I’m not FaceTiming you; I’m FaceTiming Tori,” I replied. “I swear she’s changed so much already.”

“You’ve only been gone for a few days, Jazz.”

“A lot can happen in a few days. She looks so beautiful in the little floral dress and baby pink cardigan we bought her. Kiss her for me.”

“I will.”

“Do it now.” I inhaled a deep breath like I could smell her lavender lotion and shampoo. “I want to watch.”

“You need help,” Mere said.

“This is news?” Gabe asked Mere when he joined me on the couch in our suite. He looked over at me and said, “I was concerned about what you were instructing someone to do so you could watch.”

“Yeah, because you’ve caught me interacting with live webcam shows so many times.”

“I thought maybe you got bored with me since my surprise outing was canceled due to the rain and went looking for some entertainment.”

I saw in his eyes how disappointed he was that his plans were ruined, but I wasn’t. Discreetly making love with Gabe on our private balcony while the rain poured from the sky was the sexiest thing I’d ever done. The balcony had a roof on it, but the rain came in at the perfect angle to drench us good. “Best. Date. Ever.”

“Um, guys,” Mere said then giggled. “How about you call back after you’ve worked each other out of your system.”

“That will never happen,” Gabe and I said at the same time.

“All the same, Queen V is waking up and searching out her next meal. I know you’re both enlightened gentlemen and all, but breastfeeding on FaceTime isn’t my idea of a fun time.”

“Fine, but I want to be sure you’re giving Tori the kisses I’ve sent her each day. I’ll wait.”

Mere giggled and placed a lingering kiss on Tori’s forehead. “That kiss is from your uncles, Josh and Gabe. They love you so much.”

“Bye, Mere and Tori. We’ll chat later.”

Mere blew me an air kiss before she disconnected. I leaned into Gabe, and he put his arm around me. “We’ve video chatted with our kids and Mere. Chaz is up to his armpits in edits, so I will only receive short replies from him until he meets his deadline.”

“I’m coming with you,” Christian said, rising from his chair right after I did.

I looked at him, contemplating if it would be wise. I mean, my Sovereign demanded I bring him in. My best bet to avoid having to do so was claiming I couldn’t find him or get to him, at least, thanks to his warded home. The fact that I was currently standing inside his home didn’t have to be known to Nero.

“I don’t need you to come with me,” I said.

“Well, I’m coming anyway.”

“No!” I snapped, my hand out toward him as if the motion itself could stop him.

“Lorcán, we made a deal that we’re going to solve this case together. That can’t happen if you’re going to try to sideline me. I need to see this vampire just as much as you do.”

“After I—”

“No, together, not after you see it first,” Christian said, putting his foot down.

There was something about his assertiveness at this moment that spoke to every part of me that wanted him. I felt a spark ignite inside of me, heating my blood to a boiling point, and it took all of my reserve not to slam him down on the table, snatch his pants down, and ride him until the legs literally broke off the old redwood table.

I had to clear my mind—reluctantly so—of the image of his chest heaving as he huffed and puffed, panting in pleasure. Pleasure only I could give him. Yeah, tearing myself away from those thoughts was a challenge but putting his life first made it easier.

“I can’t take you with me, Christian,” I said finally.

“Want to tell me why not?” Christian asked, his arms crossing over his massive, muscular chest. “Something is going on with you. What is it?”

Do I tell him that my king wants him? Shit. “I’ll tell you later. Just for now, I need to handle this alone. I promise, I’ll tell you. For now, lower the wards.”

“I should keep them up until you tell me the truth,” he stated.

“Do you trust me?” I asked him. We studied each other for several seconds, and I saw him exhale before he nodded. He said something in a language I didn’t recognize, which was rare. I felt an electric charge flow through the atmosphere, and I knew the wards had been lowered so I could leave.

I didn’t give him a chance to prod me further. Using my vampire speed, I ran out of his house. I knew he’d never be able to catch up to me because he didn’t even see me move. Hunters had great skills, but even to his trained eyes, it would have looked like I’d vanished, rather than just ran really fast. I was quickly in my car, pulling off, and roaring down the street toward the location of the most recent kill.

This Time Around by Aimee Nicole Walker: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from This Time Around

by Aimee Nicole Walker

My second time up to the apartments was a little slower and a whole lot more hesitant without anger and annoyance propelling me up the steps. I rehearsed what I wanted to say, but totally lost my train of thought when I came face-to-face with Andy. More like face to chest. Oh. Dear. God. His bare chest was sexier than I even imagined. I just stood there staring at his masculine perfection, not bothering to ask why he was sweatier than normal. I was just grateful for my blessings.

“I think something is wrong with the thermostat,” Andy said. “It just keeps getting hotter and hotter in here.” You could say that again. “I’ve called Paul to come check it out. It could be something simple, so don’t worry that you’ll have to replace the heating system.”

“I’m not worried,” I said when I could finally speak.

“My eyes are up here,” Andy said wryly.

I snapped my eyes up to meet his. He smiled broadly, and I think I breathed easy for the first time that day. It was the carefree grin I had known and loved so much when we were teenagers. “About Tucker—” I stopped when the smile slid from his face.

           “I don’t want to know.”

“Andy,” I said patiently. “Let me finish. There is nothing going on between Tucker and me. He wants there to be, but he knows it won’t happen.”

Andy snorted. “You sure looked chummy this morning, or do all your early-morning clients kiss you?”

“He kissed me on the forehead and cheek,” I explained. “It was a gesture to show he accepted that friendship was all I could offer him.”

“Forehead kisses are your favorite, or has that changed?”

I was still a sucker for them. If I thought about it hard enough, I could recall how right Andy’s lips felt pressed to my forehead. Of course, his kisses lingered and led to more kisses. That’s probably what he thought happened between Tucker and me that morning. Later, I could speak my mind about him jumping to conclusions, but right then I only wanted to assure him of one thing.

I closed the distance between us until I was close enough to smell his intoxicating, masculine scent. “Ask me why Tucker has accepted that he has no future with me, Andy.”

“Why? So you can toy with me some more.”

“Take a chance. Say the words, Andy.”

Nobody’s Prince Charming by Aimee Nicole Walker: Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from Nobody’s Prince Charming

Before I could stop myself, I said, “Why don’t you just hang here for a few minutes and I’ll drive you home. We’re heading to the same place.”

“Oh, um…” I could tell he was eager to get home to check on his grandpa.

“I won’t be much longer. I just need to clean up my station.” I remote started my truck then left him in the kitchenette while I cleaned my station. I reminded myself to behave and keep my hands to myself and demanded that I not kiss his pouty lips as I swept up the last bit of hair beneath my chair.

When I returned to the kitchenette, Dare looked as if he were afraid to believe in me. I wondered if maybe our backgrounds weren’t that different after all.

“I just want you to know that I will not be upset if you change your mind, Wren.” It was cute the way he tried to put me at ease.

“Dare, there’s something you need to know about me.” He nodded eagerly, biting his lip nervously as he waited. “Rule number five: I never say things I don’t mean, and I don’t do things I don’t want to do.”

“That’s two different things,” Dare said. “That should be rules five and six.”

“They mean similar things, so they share a rule.”

“Saying and doing aren’t even close to the same thing,” Dare argued. “It would make sense if it was: say what you mean and mean what you say. They could share a rule.”

“They’re my rules, and I’ll categorize them as I see fit.”

“Well,” Dare said huffily. Then he tipped his head to the side and studied me speculatively. “I’ll let it drop if you tell me your first four rules. Not gonna lie, I kind of want to see if I can make you break them.”

Honorary Blogger Aimee Nicole Walker: About Second Wind + Excerpt & Giveaway!

About Second Wind

by Aimee Nicole Walker

Hello everyone. I want to thank The Blogger Girls for having me here to chat about my brand-new book, Second Wind. I’m going to talk about the inspiration for the story, give you a fun fact about the book, and share a teaser or excerpt.

About Second Wind:

The idea for Second Wind came to me while I was on vacation with my husband in eastern Tennessee. We hadn’t updated our GPS since the previous year, and the directions to the restaurant we chose for dinner took us to the back of a new high school where their outdoor athletic fields were located. So, my husband was angry as hell, but I was enthralled by the football field and the majestic mountain view for a backdrop. My creative brain fired up immediately, and I clearly saw a football game playing out. I heard the crowd cheering as the king of the gridiron scores a touchdown, the marching band playing their fight song, but what stood out in my imagination the most was the silhouette of another boy on the sideline taking pictures for the school paper and yearbook. I immediately knew three things: the king of the gridiron and the photographer were in love, nobody knew it, and their love story would take me on a journey I’d never forget.

In Second Wind, I try to honor the men and women all around the world who didn’t have an easy coming out experience or one at an early age. I tell the story of a man who tried to repress his true self to play by society’s rules and the journey he takes once he decided that living half of a life is not really living at all. I also try to show that members of the LGBTQ+ community don’t just come out one time; they have to come out each time they meet someone new. And most importantly, it’s never too late to find your happily ever after.

Fun fact about Second Wind:

I decided early on that I wanted to illustrate the interior of Second Wind. Now, I have zero artistic ability, and I was confident that no one wanted to see my stick figure drawings leading off each chapter. I turned to my amazing formatter, Stacey Blake of Champagne Book Designs, and she knocked it out of the park. She amazes me with each project that we work on together, but this one was so near and dear to my heart.

Rush received a Polaroid camera as a kid and his passion for photography was born. Cameras became his constant companion and his chosen profession. I wanted the illustrations to be a Polaroid photo of an object or situation that symbolized each chapter. For example, chapter one is a picture of two boys riding bikes. It represents a memory Rush has from when he and Lincoln were seven years old. Linc played lookout while Rush stole his older sister’s bike. He was fascinated by the banana seat, the handlebars with streamers, and the basket on the front. He wanted to ride it, but didn’t know how. Lincoln helped him steal the bike and taught him how to ride it. Working with Stacey to create beautiful images that really brought the story to life was so much fun.

I hope you enjoyed this behind the scene look at the making of Second Wind. That sounds a touch stuffy, doesn’t it. I hope you liked this peek into my brain. Better? Thank you so much for hanging out with me, and thanks again to The Blogger Girls for allowing me to talk about a project that I’m so passionate about.

Circle of Darkness by Nicholas Bella & Aimee Nicole Walker: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

D’Angelo backed me up until I was pressed against the side of his Jeep. “Here I thought you wanted to help me.” His voice was low and menacing, yet I was getting hard because it was the same voice he used in my sexy dreams. It didn’t help when he pressed his body against mine. The electrical spark that only he could make me feel hummed beneath my skin. It sizzled through me at a lower voltage than the first time, but it was still enough to cause my synapses to misfire, leaving me muddled and dazed. D’Angelo’s determination to get answers was temporarily distracted by the hardness he felt pressing against him.

“I do want to help you,” I croaked.

“I can feel how badly you want to help me.” D’Angelo smirked. I saw lust flare in his hazel eyes but it was extinguished so quickly, I knew I must’ve been mistaken. It was obvious that the man didn’t mind playing dirty to get his way, either. He lowered his mouth until it hovered over mine. “Tell me everything you saw.”

“You’re just going to follow that man home and break into his house to steal that artifact once he’s gone to sleep. I can’t let you do it,” I protested, but I sounded weak even to my own ears.

“No one ‘lets’ me do anything, Ansell. I do what I want, when I want, and how often I want to.” Were we still talking about retrieving that artifact? “I don’t make excuses for who I am or what I do, and I sure as fuck won’t apologize.” Yeah, I’d definitely struck a nerve. An idea occurred to me, one that could backfire, but it was the only hope I had of saving his life that night.

A Die Hard Holiday by Aimee Nicole Walker: Exclusive Excerpt!

The grandmas snatched my children away from me before I could take them upstairs for their nightly bath. Josh chuckled at my scowl and pointed toward the newspaper folded neatly on the table. “Why don’t you make the most of it and read the paper since you didn’t get the chance to this morning.”

“Where’s my glass of sherry, pipe, and slippers?” I asked.

“The fifties are calling and they want their Neanderthal back,” Josh replied sassily.

“You love it when I go caveman on you.”

“Yes, in bed. You just keep it up and see where it gets you.”

“Oh, are you threatening to withhold sex again? I wonder if you can make it past ten minutes this time.” I scanned the front page and didn’t see anything too interesting. I opened to the second page and all my good humor vanished when I saw a smug, smiling face of a man I wanted to punch. “Did you know about this?”

“Can you be more specific, dear?”

“Did you know your ex-lover is the newest resident at Blissville Family Medicine?”

“Uh, I might’ve seen something about it on their Facebook page last week.”

“Last week?” I asked hotly. “When were you going to tell me?”

Josh snorted and said, “I was hoping for never.” My husband washed and dried his hands before he turned to look at me. “He won’t last long around here, babe. He’s a big city boy not suited for a small town. He’ll get bored and move on to someplace else. I didn’t see the need to upset you.”

“Of all the places he could’ve gone, he chose your hometown?”

Josh shrugged. “It doesn’t really matter though, does it? He’s not you.” Josh returned back to his beloved stove and lowered the battered meat into the hot oil. To him, the conversation was over, but my mind was still rolling the new information as I processed it from every angle.
