D’Angelo backed me up until I was pressed against the side of his Jeep. “Here I thought you wanted to help me.” His voice was low and menacing, yet I was getting hard because it was the same voice he used in my sexy dreams. It didn’t help when he pressed his body against mine. The electrical spark that only he could make me feel hummed beneath my skin. It sizzled through me at a lower voltage than the first time, but it was still enough to cause my synapses to misfire, leaving me muddled and dazed. D’Angelo’s determination to get answers was temporarily distracted by the hardness he felt pressing against him.
“I do want to help you,” I croaked.
“I can feel how badly you want to help me.” D’Angelo smirked. I saw lust flare in his hazel eyes but it was extinguished so quickly, I knew I must’ve been mistaken. It was obvious that the man didn’t mind playing dirty to get his way, either. He lowered his mouth until it hovered over mine. “Tell me everything you saw.”
“You’re just going to follow that man home and break into his house to steal that artifact once he’s gone to sleep. I can’t let you do it,” I protested, but I sounded weak even to my own ears.
“No one ‘lets’ me do anything, Ansell. I do what I want, when I want, and how often I want to.” Were we still talking about retrieving that artifact? “I don’t make excuses for who I am or what I do, and I sure as fuck won’t apologize.” Yeah, I’d definitely struck a nerve. An idea occurred to me, one that could backfire, but it was the only hope I had of saving his life that night.
