Blurb: Carson Locke is a Tabula Rosa vampire—a dangerous rarity in the world of vampires. With one bite, he can wipe clean a vampire’s mind, creating a mindless drone. Because of this, Carson has spent his entire twenty-three years sheltered at home. That changes, however, when his entire family is murdered. On the run and near death, Carson meets Commander Lincoln Samuels, a beautiful vampire who tries to heal him. In doing so, Carson is bonded to Lincoln and turned into something the vampire world has never seen.

Lincoln is a Sanatore vampire with the ability to heal other vampires. He heads a team in the New Vampire Justice police force in Utica, NY. Late one night, he’s called to a local Vampire Blood Market where a starving Tabula Rosa vampire is about to be executed by one of his officers. Feeling a strong connection to Carson, Lincoln wants to heal the broken man despite knowing the risk in doing so—it could destroy Lincoln and cost him the chance to love again. And he soon discovers there’s a greater evil threatening to take Carson from him.

Can two vampires who have loved and painfully lost in the past learn to trust one another, defeat the evil rising against them, and dare to love forever?

Excellent beginning to a new kind of vampire series. The world building and character developments were spot-on, including the in-depth secondary characters. In this world, there is more than one kind of vampire, and a few are rarer and more deadly than your average bloodsucker.
Carson appears to be a small and weak vampire, protected and hidden by his family…until his world falls apart and he is left starving, alone, and horrified. But all isn’t as it appears and sweet, little Carson is much more than meets the eye…much, much more.

Lincoln is your big, badass enforcer who is also a rare vampire. His bite can cure, but it also runs the risk of forcing a bond with the one being bitten. This leads to lots of problems and hurt feelings. It’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t scenario for Lincoln, and I really felt for the guy.

These two meet at a time and form an alliance that one never really sees coming from the information given at the beginning….lots of misinformation that had me running in circles trying to figure out who was who, who was good, and who was bad. We get all these answers, and more, but it’s at the end of the book before most of the answers are revealed and made clear.

I was in the mood for a good vampire book, and this story delivered. It’s well written, it’s got a great plot, amazing characters, and lots of action. Even though this is only book one in the series, I didn’t feel like I was left with a cliffhanger, more that there was an interesting and continuing storyline that left me highly anticipating and looking forward to reading.

Overall Impression: I really liked it!

*I purchased my own, personal copy of this book for review.*
