Blurb:  In a dystopian near future, New York City has become the epicenter of decadence—gambling, the flesh trade, a playground for the wealthy. And underneath? Crime, fueled by “Dead Bolt,” a destructive designer drug. This New City is where Nox Boyet leads a double life. At night, he is the Vigilante, struggling to keep the streets safe for citizens abandoned by the corrupt government and police. During the day, he works in construction and does his best to raise his adopted teenaged son, Sam.

A mysterious letter addressed to Sam brings Nox in direct contact with “model” Cade Creel, a high-end prostitute working at the Iron Butterfly Casino. Suspicion gives way to an intense attraction as dark figures from Nox’s past and the mysterious peddlers of Dead Bolt begin to descend—and put all their lives in danger. When things spin out of control, Cade is the only person Nox can trust to help him save Sam.(

Review: Who Knows the Storm IS the first book in a brand new series by established author Tere Michaels. What it IS NOT, is typical. In fact, this book is and is not many things!

It IS a dystopian story based in post flood and storm New York City. It IS NOT fantasy or steampunk as many dystopian novels are. The author managed to create a very unique balance between a contemporary and a post apocalyptic world.

It IS a slow build. The plot is full of questions and secrets, and I absolutely loved the anxiety I felt as I read further and further into the world. The author did a beautiful job at filling in bits of the puzzle and keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. Even though it’s slow to build, it IS NOT boring or cliche.

A complete romantic mystery IS what this story is. Nox is our dark and mysterious character: father to a teenager, street vigilante, and holder of many secrets. His well-built world begins to crumble when Cade, a popular upscale whore in the rebuilt section of the city, delivers a message to his son. It IS NOT clear right away what exactly is going on but little by little things become clearer and Nox and Cade’s relationship becomes muddier.

Speaking of, this book IS sexy! There’s a bit of a rough edge to Nox and some definite alpha tendencies but Cade is no wilting flower. I love the sex-not-for-money dynamic of Cade’s attraction to Nox too. But don’t go into this story looking for a sexfest because it IS NOT all sex and no plot.

Although I did have a few small issues and questions with regard to the world building, it IS NOT a reason to not read and enjoy this story! Who Knows the Storm IS definitely worth checking out!!

Overall Impression: I really liked it!

*I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher in return for a fair and honest review.*
