Blurb:  It’s Christmas Eve, and newly minted superhero Matt AKA “Strong Man” is in the middle of taking down one of Central City’s most notorious criminals, the mesmerist and villain Dr. Destructo. It’s Matt’s first mission, and he’s working with his idol and secret crush, Jake X-Ray. He doesn’t want anything to go wrong.

Unfortunately for him, everything goes wrong. Soon Matt finds himself racing through alternative presents, trying to capture Dr. Destructo and trying to figure out why all the Matts in these other scenarios have the one thing he really wants—a relationship with Jake.

Review: This is a fast-paced and frenetic little holiday story that really could have happened any time. Matt is a “new super hero” under the mentorship of Jake (another superhero). Matt is crushing on Jake but Jake seems to hate Matt so…

When the superhero team catches the bad guy – Destructo – things are looking good, but Matt ends up letting Destructo go – not good for impressing his crush – and he and Jake go on an adventure trying to recapture the bad guy.

Destructo’s “power” is mind games and Matt and Jake are thrown into four alternate realities where Matt and Jake are always a couple despite the other weirdness.

When they return to “now” will, Jake and Matt end up making this part of their new “reality”?

I didn’t love this. It was hard to feel really connected to the characters with all the strange scene changes. It felt like a fan-fiction blend between the Justice League and Charles Dickens.

If comic book heroes and tongue-in-cheek light romances are your thin,g I think you’d like this – but it didn’t quite work for me.

Overall Impression: It was okay

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher in return for a fair and honest review.*
