FRET

by Sandrine Gasq-Dion

Hey everybody! I’ve had a hectic last week with my daughter giving birth to my first grandchild so I’ve been kinda spastic. I’m really excited to bring you FRET. I’ve spent the last 3 months researching bands, instruments and talking/spending time with Aarin, Mikey and Doug of No Other Option. I came across them while looking for a band to sit down and talk with. Well, I found them and knew I didn’t need to look any further. They’ve been included in the book with speaking parts because they are Just. That. Awesome.

Part of the proceeds of the books sales are going to Aarin’s soon-to-be-mother-in-law to help her in her fight against breast cancer. There are few things in my life that I feel I have to contribute to, finding a cure for cancer in any form is at the top of my list. I hope that you all come to love Gareth and Axel as much as I do and continue to read about them in the next four books. Hang in there, so much more is coming!

About FRET

26174755Former Navy SEAL Axel Blaze lives a solitary life. He doesn’t do emotions, and he doesn’t do babysitting. Used to being on his own, his job consists of Wetwork (a charming term coined by the KGB) for his former Master Chief, Mac. When an out-of-the-ordinary job lands on his doorstep, Axel heads down a path that includes a famous heavy metal rock band and one quiet, vulnerable, guitar-shredding virtuoso named Gareth Wolf.

Gareth Wolf’s life changed in an instant when a car he was a passenger in crashed, hurting his brother’s best friend and the band’s lead guitarist. They created the band, Skull Blasters, as kids. Gareth had always been happy in the background, playing roadie. With the lead guitarist’s injury, Gareth is suddenly thrust into the limelight and into a frenzied life he never imagined for himself. Finally fed up with living a lie, Gareth comes out as gay in a newspaper interview and finds himself in the bulls-eye of a crazed stalker. Somebody wants Gareth hurt – or worse – and Mac has been hired to be sure that doesn’t happen. Babysitting duty is NOT Axel’s strong suit, but Mac won’t be budged.

Enter Axel Blaze. Against his better judgment, the big man takes the job to protect the shy musician. The more time he spends with Gareth Wolf, the more he admires the man. Where’s a simple assassination when you need one? The situation becomes more volatile for each man as the attempts on Gareth escalate just as Axel finds himself falling for the quiet lead guitarist.
Strong, funny, smart-ass — and kinda sweet Axel is everything Gareth has ever wanted in a man. Too bad he’s off limits. As the stalker grows bolder, Gareth and Axel move closer emotionally – but is it too late? All Axel knows is that they don’t stand a chance if he can’t find the maniac trying to kill the man he’s come to care about. A lot.

Everyone knows that relationships that begin in pressured or volatile situations eventually fizzle out. Or do they?

An Excerpt from FRET

Thumping music was shaking the walls of the Dome as I headed for my designated spot. I guess I’m meeting Paul, the band’s manager.

I took mental notes as I passed through the crowd of screaming, jumping people. The band was rocking it out and I sought out Gareth Wolf. There were two guitarists, but I found him right away. Black hair touched his shoulders and his lean body moved with his guitar.

He was in his element.

The song was wrapping up and the floor was shaking from the bass drum. The floor-to-ceiling speakers pumped out the last notes of the song. The crowd immediately went wild as Ransom Fox leaned over the stage.

“Let’s hear it for the best lead guitarist on the planet!” he shouted.

Gareth shook his hair back and bowed with one hand out. Again, the crowd screamed, shouted and whistled. Ransom went on to give some love to the other members of the group.

I rolled my eyes and pushed my way through the crowd toward the side of the stage. A large man eyed me and then nodded as I walked by. Again, I could have been wearing a ‘Hello, I’m God’ tag and security wouldn’t have batted an eyelash. As it was, my tag faced backwards; he couldn’t even see my name or credentials.

Security for the Skull Blaster band was sorely lacking.

I sat through another hour of bone-jarring hardcore metal before the band finally left the stage. I scanned the area for their manager, but no luck.

I walked right behind the curtain and fell into step with the band members as they trudged toward their dressing rooms. They didn’t even notice me — and I’m really hard to miss.

They stepped into the dressing room; I followed and slammed the door shut behind me. Ransom turned and his eyes widened.

“Who the fuck are you?!”

“Nice of you to finally notice me,” I pointed out.

“Paul!” Ransom thundered. He immediately moved in front of Gareth, shielding him.

“Oh for fucks sake.” I arched a brow.

The door behind me opened and a startled man looked me over from head to toe. He flipped my name badge over and sighed audibly, clearly relieved.

“It’s cool, Ransom. This is the guy I was telling you about.”

“You could have mentioned he was a semi-truck.” Ransom’s eyes narrowed.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t meet you,” Paul apologized to me. “I ran into some media and couldn’t get away.”

“Not that this isn’t fun —  because, oh so much fun — but I’m here to do a job. So I need to speak to whoever is in charge of ‘security.’ Now.” I leaned very slightly — but effectively — in to Paul’s face.

“Why?”

I turned to see Gareth peeking out from behind his brother’s broad shoulders. His eyes were a shade of green I’d never seen before, and with his pale complexion and dark hair? The guy was a looker and then some.

“Because band security royally sucks. I walked right on back here with them and not one person noticed or stopped me. That is not acceptable.”

“Who are you?” Gareth gaped.

I pinned him with a hard look. “I’m your bodyguard.”

Ransom chuckled.

“What the actual fuck?” Gareth stepped in front of his brother. “Is this a joke?”

“Nope.” Ransom shook his head.

“Jinx, Harley, Rebel. Give us a few, eh?” Paul opened the door and tilted his head toward the hallway.

“Sure thing, boss.” Rebel tipped his hat and winked at me.

I leaned against the wall as the members walked out. I overheard one of them, not sure which, talking to another.

“Did you see the size of that guy?”

“How could you miss him?” another one answered.

Paul shut the door and turned to Gareth with an apologetic smile.

“I knew what you’d say if we told you beforehand,” he admitted.

“Oh, did you now? You had to get me Conan the Destroyer? Jesus Christ!”

“Gareth,” Ransom warned.

“What? This is stupid! I don’t need a human shield!”

“You’re going to play nice and allow this man to watch your back, Gareth!” Ransom shouted. “You’re getting threats since you came out! I insist you be kept safe!”

“Gareth, why don’t you go clean up? Then you and Mr. Blaze can get acquainted.”

“Seriously? Blaze?” Gareth snorted.

I narrowed my eyes at the kid. Well, to me he was a kid, after everything I’d seen in my life. Gareth was almost twenty-three and I was pushing thirty. We locked eyes for a few seconds before he turned away.

Blog Tour Serial: Shot Glass Sin (Part One) by Rhys Ford + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Sloe Ride.

Actually it’s been more of a long ride. Three years, three books, one novella and a lot of short stories and we’ve come to the point where Quinn gets his story. And we get to really meet Rafe. This is definitely a shift in the band’s story, a lot more Morgan and well, there’s Quinn, the family’s off-black sheep. It was a challenge a joy to write Quinn and Rafe. And I hope you enjoy it.

We’ve got two more outings in the Sinners series after Sloe Ride but this book kind of pulls a lot of things together. Enough so we can go forward to a few other things. And I hope you enjoy the ride.

This blog tour captures a few scenes along the band’s journey from Damien and Miki to the start of Sloe Ride. It’s called Shot Glass Sin and I’m hoping you enjoy this too. Visit each blog stop to get the next part of the story and when it’s all done, I’ll post the entire thing in a PDF.

Oh! And a GIVEAWAY! But not just any giveaway, because it’s time for a new tour shirt.

Because the guys are going on tour… in Absinthe of Malice, a Sinners novella set to be released in 2016. And they’re going to need clubs or bars to go to. ONE WINNER at each blog stop will name one of the places the band plays at on their tour. Nothing profane or lewd (These ARE going on the back of a t-shirt) but pretty much anything goes.

Leave a comment below or rafflecopter to enter.

Shot Glass Sin

Part One

1 — After Whiskey and Wry

“You’re having Doritos and coffee for breakfast, Sinjun.” It wasn’t a question for Miki, not in Damien’s mind. More of a statement, especially since his best friend shot a disgusted glance back at him then continued to munch at the bright orange triangles he’d poured into a bowl.

“What’s the difference between this and corn Chex?” Miki said through a mouthful of crumbs. “Just cheesy powder. And you dairy Chex up with milk.”

Damien couldn’t argue that. In reality, there was little arguing with Miki St. John. Most of the time his odd decisions on food, love and life in general made sense if asked. It was just the convoluted path getting there that made Damien dizzy.

But there was definitely no arguing the point of Doritos and Chex.

It was early morning, early being relative for a couple of musicians. Ten was early in Damien’s mind but he guessed Miki’d been up for hours. The passing years were good for the guttersnipe he’d found on a Chinatown fire escape. Sure, the car crash was a shitty thing to happen but what followed seemed to hang okay on Miki’s shoulders.

A lot of that had to do with Kane Morgan, the man Miki’d fallen hard for, and the scraggly blond terrier gnawing at an old bone on the couch by Miki’s feet.

“Give any thought about the band?” He figured he’d make an early stab at it. Get the argument over before the day really got started so he could call it done and move on. Surprise wasn’t a big enough word for the shock Damien felt when Miki nodded while he scribbled in one of his damned notebooks. Damie waited his mostly-brother out then when Miki remained silent, he prodded again, “And? What do you think?”

Miki stared up at him, glittering hazel eyes through a shock of dark brown hair. In all the years Damien’d had Miki at his side, never once had they’d been at the crossroads they were at right now. Damien longed for the stage but Miki needed the music. They could play in a closet at the back of a fast food restaurant on pans they found in the kitchen and Miki would be happy.

Damien would not. He knew it. They both knew it. What Damien was asking—begging, really—was for Miki to step up onto a stage and live his life out in public. Again.

Back when they’d had nothing and no one, being a touring band was all they’d known, all they’d wanted. Now without a reason to sleep four to a van or eat stolen diner crackers for lunch, climbing back up on the boards seemed a lot to ask of Miki.

But there Damien stood, at the edge of the refurbished couch they’d dragged around from apartment to apartment, silently begging Miki to join him in the insanity of being in a band. It was a lot to ask the very private Miki St. John.

Maybe even too much. But he couldn’t do it without Sinjun. He wouldn’t do it without his brother.

Miki licked the bright orange dust off of his fingers, scraping at it with his teeth. He swallowed then said very softly, barely loud enough for Damien to hear, “Yeah, we should do it. D. Let’s get a band together.”

Sloe Ride

It isn’t easy being a Morgan.  Especially when dead bodies start piling up and there’s not a damned thing you can do about it.

Quinn Morgan never quite fit into the family mold. He dreamed of a life with books instead of badges and knowledge instead of law—and a life with Rafe Andrade, his older brothers’ bad boy friend and the man who broke his very young heart.

Rafe Andrade returned home to lick his wounds following his ejection from the band he helped form. A recovering drug addict, Rafe spends his time wallowing in guilt, until he finds himself faced with his original addiction, Quinn Morgan—the reason he fled the city in the first place.

When Rafe hears the Sinners are looking for a bassist, it’s a chance to redeem himself, but as a crazed murderer draws closer to Quinn, Rafe’s willing to sacrifice everything—including himself—to keep his quixotic Morgan safe and sound.

Feat of Clay by Susan Mac Nicol + Excerpt!

Feat of Clay

An Excerpt from Feat of Clay

by Susan Mac Nicol

Galileo’s buzzed with activity as Clay walked back from the bar with a round of drinks. His friends were all seated in a corner booth, chatting animatedly. He grinned at Tate who already looked a little under the weather as he tried to convince Eddie of the benefits of briefs versus boxers. Eddie gave Clay a ‘please help me’ puppy dog look which Clay ignored. He knew exactly what happened when Tate got onto that subject, Clay being a boxer man himself, and he didn’t want to get involved. He smothered a laugh as he sat down and heard the words ‘dangling junk’ seeing Eddie’s panicked look around the restaurant to check if anyone else had heard Tate’s rather loud ode to the delights of wearing briefs to keep his junk “contained.”

Taylor waved his beer bottle in Clay’s direction. “More booze. Just what we needed.” He slugged down the remains of his current drink and picked up another one.

His fiancé, Draven, sighed. “Tay, remember what happened the last time you got drunk? You gave Tate hell, and then it ended up with Gideon politely kicking you and me out of the restaurant with poor Clay as the babysitter.”

Clay laughed loudly. “I remember that night well. I thought poor Gideon was going to pitch a fit.”

“Poor Gideon did pitch a fit,” was the dry rejoinder from behind and Clay turned to see the man in question standing there. He was immaculately clad as always in a grey suit, as befitted the owner of Galileo’s. He sat down in the empty chair beside Eddie and leaned over to kiss his cheek.

Gideon grinned. “If I recall, it was a bit like the Nicky Starr porn site in here that night.” He frowned. “Talking about Oliver and Leslie, weren’t they supposed to be here?”

About Susan Mac Nicol

Susan Mac Nicol is a self confessed bookaholic, an avid watcher of videos of sexy pole dancing men, self confessed geek and nerd and in love with her Smartphone. This little treasure is called ‘the boyfriend’ by her long suffering husband, who says if it vibrated, there’d be no need for him. Susan hasn’t had the heart to tell him there’s an app for that…

She is never happier than when sitting in the confines of her living room/study/on a cold station platform scribbling down words and making two men fall in love. She is a romantic at heart and believes that everything happens (for the most part) for a reason.  She likes to think of herself as a ‘half full’ kinda gal, although sometimes that philosophy is sorely tested.

Lover of walks in the forest, theatre productions, dabbling her toes in the cold North Sea and the vibrant city of London where you can experience all four seasons in a day , she is a hater of pantomime (so please don’t tar and feather her), duplicitous people, bigotry and self righteous idiots.

In an ideal world, Susan Mac Nicol would be Queen of England and banish all the bad people to the Never Never Lands of Wherever -Who Cares. As that’s never going to happen, she contents herself with writing her HEA stories and pretending, that just for a little while, good things happen to good people.

The Last Nights of The Frangipani

by Bey Deckard

Blurb: All James wanted was a little solitude at his favourite resort: bright sunshine overhead, soft, white sand underfoot, and a hammock to read in while the warm breeze rustles through the coconut palms and almond trees. However, when an old acquaintance shows up, and James is obliged to share “his” beach, a profound exchange over a bottle of rum leads to a lust-fuelled encounter in the dark.

Reeling from the intensity of the drunken tryst, James decides to cut his vacation short rather than face what he’s kept hidden under mountains of denial.

However, his escape is thwarted when Rudie, handsome and plainspoken, calls him out on his behaviour and makes him see that life needn’t be spent running away from his desires.

Set at a rundown old resort on a small Caribbean island, The Last Nights of The Frangipani is a story about letting go of fear and learning that passion and love can be found in the most unexpected of places.

Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifts by Charlie Cochet: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifts

by Charlie Cochet

Spencer walked around the kitchen counter and flopped down into a chair, waiting for the brownies to cool. “The guy doesn’t know I exist. He’s freakin’ Miami SWAT. He’s probably an overbearing, misogynistic asshole with a giant ego, anyway.”

Danny took a seat next to him, his expression filled with concern. “You don’t know that. Besides, since when do you judge people?”

Spencer narrowed his eyes at his friend. “No one likes a smartass.”

“Says the guy who got a ticket for mouthing off to a police officer.”

“I wasn’t mouthing off. I was being witty and adorable. The guy just had no sense of humor. Besides, I was nowhere near that fire hydrant. He was clearly behind on his quota. Bet that wouldn’t have happened to Quinn.” Was he pouting? Oh God, he was. Danny was right; he was sad.

“Probably because he’s SWAT and can park his ginormous truck wherever the hell he wants.” Danny went to the glass doors of the balcony overlooking the parking spaces and started laughing.

“What?”

“You know how they say dogs look like their owners? I wonder if the same applies to cars.”

Spencer joined Danny at the window, letting out a low groan. His tiny yellow Fiat gleamed cheerfully in the morning sunlight beside Quinn’s monster black Chevy Silverado. “It looks like a sunspot.”

Danny’s giggle turned into full-blown laughter.

“I don’t see what’s so funny. Do you know how hard it is to find decent parking in this city? And by decent I mean a parking spot that won’t lead to your car getting scratched, dented, crashed into, broken into, or stolen. You’d think you could find a spot in a shopping center at ten in the morning on a Tuesday, but no.”

“Here we go,” Danny sighed, heading back to the counter to make a second attempt at snatching a brownie. Again he was thwarted by Spencer, who was a lot faster than he looked.

“Seriously, man. It’s like bumper cars. The winner is anyone who happens to get their damn car between the lines. Two lines, not four.”blogger_bee_trans

Buchanan House by Charley Descoteaux: Excerpt & Giveaway!

unnamed-1

An Excerpt from Buchanan House

Timothy Tate knocked on the front doors at eight o’clock sharp. Eric had barely been up long enough to start coffee, and Nathan had yet to emerge. They’d slept in one of the rooms on the first floor. The official reason was to avoid having to clean two rooms, but the unofficial reason was to talk into the night like they had back in middle school. Slumber parties for thirtysomethings. Somehow that didn’t make Eric feel any better about meeting this Tim person.

But opening the door sure did.

Tim Tate was as tall as Nathan, so six one, and he had curly black hair and eyes so dark you could get lost in them.

“Morning.” He wasn’t much for smiling, though.

“Good morning. Please come in. I’m Eric.”

Tim nodded and seemed to be looking at something behind Eric’s right shoulder. As soon as Eric remembered to step aside, Tim came in. “You bought this place?”

“Yes. Isn’t it lovely? The inspector said the bones are solid, and someone did amazing work on the rooms. Right now, we need help with the kitchen and some reno on the public areas.”

“Should tear it down and start fresh.”

“I beg your pardon. That’s a horrible thing to say. You don’t discard something just because it’s not perfect. With a little love—maybe this isn’t going to work out.”

Tim shrugged and looked around the room. His face seemed to soften into… nostalgia? It held a wistful quality, of that much Eric was certain.

“Have you been in this room before?”

Tim had turned away a little, so the left side of his face pointed toward Eric.

Is that his best side?

He didn’t answer, so Eric repeated the question, a little louder.

“Huh? Oh, yeah. When I was a kid. Sometimes the local clubs would use it for summer camps. It’s been empty for over ten years.”

“Why? I mean, did something happen here?”

“No. The owners died, and their kids didn’t want to live out here. Can’t blame ’em. Entertainment isn’t easy to come by.”

Nathan chose that moment to enter, in his pink robe with the ostrich-feather trim. He spoke quickly, almost dancing through the room and toward the aroma of coffee. “Good morning. You don’t mind I borrowed your robe? And this must be Tim. Lovely to meet you, sweetheart. Coffee, then business.” He flounced into the kitchen.

Eric and Tim watched him go. The silence in his wake stretched out a little too long for Eric, mortified by the thought Tim might believe the robe belonged to him.

About Buchanan House

unnamedEric Allen, thirty-three-year-old line cook, moved in with his grandmother, Jewell, after a disastrous coming-out when he was in middle school. She raised him, and he cared for her when she fell ill. When Jewell died she left everything to Eric—angering his parents and older brother. The inheritance isn’t much, but Eric and his bestie Nathan pool their money and buy an abandoned hotel on an isolated stretch of the Central Oregon Coast. The hotel isn’t far from Lincoln City—a town with its own Pride Festival and named for a president—so they christen it Buchanan House after James Buchanan, the “confirmed bachelor” president with the close male friend.

Eric and Nathan need a handyman to help them turn Buchanan House into the gay resort of their dreams. Eric finds Tim Tate in the local listings and over the months leading to opening weekend Tim reveals himself as a skilled carpenter with many hidden talents. Eric falls hard for Tim, but before he can see a future with the gorgeous handyman he has to get over twenty years of being bullied and shamed by his birth family. It would be much easier if Eric’s brother Zach weren’t trying to grab part of the inheritance or ruin opening weekend.

About Charley Descoteaux

Charley Descoteaux has always heard voices. She was relieved to learn they were fictional characters, and started writing when they insisted daydreaming just wasn’t good enough. In exchange, they’ve agreed to let her sleep once in a while. Charley grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area during a drought, and found her true home in the soggy Pacific Northwest. She has survived earthquakes, tornadoes, and floods, but couldn’t make it through one day without stories.

Honorary Blogger Kate McMurray: Can’t Quit You, Baseball + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Can’t Quit You, Baseball

by Kate McMurray

I really thought I was done writing about baseball after I finished Out in the Field. I’d said what I had to say, I’d written the book of my heart, and I was ready to move on and write about other things.

But this world just kept pulling me back.

A few years ago, Shae Connor and I decided that we should put together an anthology of baseball stories. I readily agreed, though I was worried I wouldn’t be able to come up with a story. Then my brother suggested I write a dead-ball era historical. Then, while watching the Ken Burns Baseball documentary for the third or fourth time and thinking about how weird it is that a guy like Babe Ruth—whose athletic prowess was fueled largely by booze, women, and hot dogs—somehow became one of the greatest ball players of all time, when a story started to form in my mind. I set it in the Jazz Age, not the dead-ball era, but still, I had a new angle on baseball. That story became “One Man to Remember” in the Playing Ball anthology.

But then I really was done. Right?

I knew I wanted to write a series of connected books before I knew what it was going to be about. When someone suggested I write about baseball again, I pointed out how unlikely it was that there are enough gay major leaguers on any given team to build a series around—that the very premise seemed implausible to me—it was pointed out that I didn’t have to write about professional baseball players.

Fair point. Hence the Rainbow League was born.

I made it a LGBT league which handily solved the above plausibility issue, and once I got going planning out the series, I knew I’d been sucked back into the baseball world.

I intended for the series to be fun, for it to be a lot about guys who play baseball but mostly just hang out, befriend each other, and occasionally sleep together. I wound up dealing with some bigger issues—anxiety, loss, domestic violence—but I think that adds depth to the stories and characters. My hope is that, taken as a whole, there’s a lot in these stories that readers can relate to. The characters are regular guys who happen to play baseball together. They have lives outside of the sport. (Well, Mason from Thrown a Curve might argue he doesn’t, but he’s a former Yankee. Once a pro, always a pro, perhaps.)

So, I hope you enjoy these three books and my little foray back into baseball. I could tell you I’m off to write historicals or more classical musicians or what have you now, but let’s face it, I’ll be back to writing about baseball players soon enough.

On top of that, he starts to realize his feelings for Nate might not be limited to friendship. Honorary Blogger Victoria Sue: A Snippet Into Blaze + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

A Snippet Into Blaze

by Victoria Sue

Blaze didn’t ask to be a werewolf. If he was going to ask to be anything it would be a god. Something useful. Werewolves still had to hunt, and it was impossible to catch fish. His claws were too sharp. And what? What if he got fleas? Blaze shuddered. Old Jacob had a mangy dog that snarled every time you walked past, and it was always scratching. It smelled. He bet it had hundreds of fleas. And werewolves were like dogs. Okay, well, really scary dogs, but still dogs.

Oh…What if he’d shifted and he suddenly needed to pee. Blaze gulped, or worse. What did werewolves do? Because they sure as hell didn’t stand next to their best friend and have contests about how far they could piss for, or who’s…mmm, well, no. He didn’t think werewolves did that either.

And they’d have to eat gross stuff. I mean, Blaze ate rabbit and he’d been shown how to skin it, but then Conner’s mom would cook it, and they certainly didn’t have to eat the nasty bits. He bet Jacob’s dog had those. Eww…

There was only one benefit that he could see. He didn’t think his mom and Annie’s father would still want him to mate her. I mean – they couldn’t kiss. His fangs would probably drop and he’d cut her. Then she’d go all girly on him and start crying. Blaze brightened. Conner wouldn’t cry. Maybe everyone would think it was suddenly a good idea to kiss a boy because boys were tougher.

Maybe this whole turning into a werewolf thing wasn’t that bad after all.

About Victoria Sue

MM Love stories – because the only thing better than one hot guy is two of them.

Has loved books for as long as she can remember. Books were always what pocket money went on and what usually Father Christmas brought. When she ran out of her kids’ adventure stories, she would go raid her mom’s. By the age of eight she was devouring classics like Little Women, and fell in love with love stories.
She’s still in love with them. Any size, any shape, any creature – love is love, no matter what it says on the box.
In fact if they don’t fit very neatly into any box she loves them even more!
She has a very patient husband and three wonderful children. In 2010 in search of adventure they all moved from the UK to the US and are happily settled in Florida. Finally, after reading love stories for so long, she decided to write her own.
