Family Bonds

by Charlie Cochet

Hello all! Thank you so much for joining me as I celebrate the release of the fifth book in the THIRDS series, Against the Grain. In this new installment of the THIRDS, we’re continuing where Rise & Fall left off, except this time we’re experiencing events through Ash and Cael’s points of view.

Over the last four books, so much has happened between our foul-mouthed lion Therian agent and the adorable cheetah Therian who captured his heart. Of course with Ash nothing is ever simple or straightforward. At the end of Rise & Fall, Tony shows up at Dekatria with Old Betsy (a beat up Louisville Slugger that’s chased away many an unsuitable suitor), and he intends to get some answers from Sloane and Ash regarding their relationship with his boys.

Now a dad’s work is never done, no matter how old your boys get, or the fact that they’re highly trained government agents. When your dad also happens to be your sergeant, and you’ve been dating one of his trusted agents under his nose, things can get a little intense. Tony fears no man or Therian. He will protect his boys to his very last breath. To understand Tony’s actions, we have to take a look at his past.

Tony’s been through a lot in his life. After his father was killed by police officers, he decided to become one so that he could make a difference from the inside out. Pained by the loss of her husband, Tony’s mom and a good deal of his family turned their backs on him for his decision, unable to understand how he could join the organization that took their loved one. The only one who remained by his side and supported him was his sister Danelle. Tension between him and his family only increased after Tony adopted a Therian child.

The Daley’s were like family to Tony, and John Daley was his best friend and detective partner. After their deaths, Tony adopted their little boy. Not long after, he found a six month old tiny cheetah Therian in a dumpster after a building was burned, leaving no other survivors. Tony adopted Cael, losing his job for it, and getting his name dragged through the mud for being the first Human to adopt a Therian child. He was soon recruited to the THIRDS, but being a THIRDS agent and raising two rambunctious boys was no easy task, even with his sister’s help.

Dex was always getting into some kind of mischief and required constant supervision. Cael was tiny and scared, always following big brother’s lead. As a Therian, Cael was the most vulnerable. As the baby of the family, Dex and Tony have always been very protective, doing their best to shield him from the ugliness of the world and those who would hurt him simply for being a Therian. That overprotectiveness never left even after Cael grew up, and with Cael having suffered from certain events during college, it’s no wonder Tony is wary of any guy looking to be with Cael. Tony might trust Ash, but he fears the two may not be as prepared to be together as they thought.

Throughout the THIRDS book, family is important, but family isn’t always the one you’re born into. Tony, Dex, and Cael have a very strong bond. There’s nothing they wouldn’t do for each other. Abandoned by their biological families, Sloane and Ash turned to each other to help them survive the research facility, their bond one that can never be broken. Destructive Delta is more than just a team. Over the years they’ve formed bonds of friendship, and some partnerships became more. In Against the Grain, we get to see all these bonds tested and strengthened. Although some of them may stumble, there’s always someone there to catch them.

As a result, Ash’s secrets start to surface, and he can no longer ignore what’s in his heart.

Cael Maddock is no stranger to heartache. Blowing Smoke by Rory Ni Coileain: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from Blowing Smoke

by Rory Ni Coileain

Bryce shook his head, but his arms slipped loosely around Lasair’s hips and his pouting lips parted at Lasair’s urging for a staggering kiss. Bryce groaned softly. Lasair could taste the groan. He could scent both need and despair.

He wanted to drive out the despair, excise even the memory of the scent of tears. There was an armchair behind Bryce; awkwardly, Lasair walked them both over to it, never leaving off the kiss until Bryce sat down hard.

“Would you for fuck’s sake listen to m—”

Lasair let another kiss tell Bryce ‘no’ until he had worked his way into the chair with him, kneeling astride Bryce’s lap. The chair was narrow, forcing him to grip the human’s hard thighs tightly between his knees. Bryce’s body was rigid, his jaw set; his arms had fallen away from Lasair’s waist, and now he gripped the arms of the chair, his knuckles white. There was anger in the human’s intense deep green gaze, anger and hunger and…

damn. Tears. Pooling in his eyes, falling when he blinked. Gently, he thumbed the tears away, and framed Bryce’s face in his hands. “Why tears, sumiúl?”

“What the hell does that mean?”

Stubble rasped lightly over Lasair’s palms. “‘Fascinating’ comes close. Something or someone you look at because you can’t look away. Because there’s nothing else you want to see.”

Bryce’s strangled laugh wrenched at Lasair. “You don’t listen in any language, do you? Getting close to me is the worst thing that will ever happen to you. Trust me.”

“Would you for fuck’s sake, as you so eloquently put it, forget about me and let me do this for you?” Lasair wasn’t sure if another Fae had ever spoken those words. Probably not. They were the complete antithesis of Fae sex. Maybe later he’d wonder about them. Not now. “I want to see you smile, preferably after I’ve just made you forget your own name and scream mine.”

About Blowing Smoke

Blowing Smoke Final CoverLasair Faol, Master of the Fade-Hounds to the Royal court of the Demesne of Fire in the Fae Realm, has been exiled to the human world by the Princess Consort for failing to catch her son’s kidnapper. Bryce Newhouse, Greenwich Village investment banker, is universally loathed by all who know him. Generally, he’s perfectly cool with that, but he discovers what he’s been missing—literally—when he finds Lasair chained in his basement.

Bryce was supposed to receive half of Lasair’s soul at his birth, but thanks to the Fae of Purgatory, the Pattern—portal between the worlds—has been damaged, and Bryce’s soul arrived thirty-one years too late. Now the exiled Fae is the shunned human’s only hope of healing his broken past. And with the fate of two worlds riding on that healing, Lasair is going to have to overcome both his race’s innate mistrust of genuine emotion and his own very unFae awkwardness, to have any chance of reaching Bryce’s impenetrable heart.

About Rory Ni Coileain

Rory Ni Coileain has been writing almost as long as she’s been reading, and reading almost as long as she’s been talking. She majored in creative writing in college, back when Respectable Colleges didn’t offer such a major, so she designed it herself—being careful to ensure that she never had to take a class before nine in the morning or take a Hemingway survey course.

She graduated Phi Beta Kappa at the age of nineteen, sent off her first short story to an anthology being assembled by an author she idolized, received the kind of rejection letter that fuels decades of therapy, and found other things to do for the next thirty years or so, including nightclub singing, working as a volunteer lawyer for Gay Men’s Health Crisis, and studying ballet in New York City, until her stories grabbed her by the shirt collar and announced they were back.

Now she’s a legal editor, a soprano in her church choir and the St. Mark’s Cathedral Choral Society (unless they’re singing Mozart, because she’s decided that Mozart didn’t like sopranos very much), the mother of a teenaged son, Brony, and budding film-maker (all wrapped up in one amazing offspring), and amanuensis to a host of Fae, Gille Dubh, and shapeshifters who are all anxious to tell their stories, and some of whom aren’t very good at waiting their turns.

Honorary Blogger Rhys Ford: Pestilence + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Pestilence

by Rhys Ford

First, thank the blogs for having me on this Ink and Shadows tour! Thank you so so much! Secondly, this next part will be the same across the blogs but I wanted to give a bit of a soundbite about the whys of this book.

In the Beginning, there was urban fantasy. Okay to be fair, the urban fantasy genre didn’t exist when I began to read. Back then, it was pretty much either sci-fi or high fantasy. There were murmurs of urban fantasy—Mercedes Lackey’s elves / bard series, Gael Baudino’s Gossamer Axe, to name a few—but it caught and began gaining traction, a bastard stepchild of magic and an alternative universe.

Urban fantasy was always a playground for experimentation and I wanted to go off the rails a bit with Ink and Shadows. There had to be a solid footing in the contemporary world and the underbelly of humanity. Or rather, the expression of humanity. When I wrote this book, it was to explore the possibilities of personalities and okay, play around with the world.

I chose to write about the Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Kismet, the human who changes their world, because I wanted to delve into their being a necessary part of humanity’s existence. Over the course of the tour, I’ll touch on the main characters and components of the Horsemen’s world.

I hope you all like Ink and Shadows, my foray past the shadows.

Oh! And as a giveaway! Enter to win Pestilence’s Horse! That’s right! A black pony of your very own!

Pestilence

Ah, Mal. Pestilence is the newest Horseman and overwhelmed probably describes his situation the best. While none of the Manifestations know their origins or how they died, there are usually clues as to when they came from—personality traits and knowledge of the times. Mal is definitely a child of the current century, intrinsically aware of new technologies and shifting societies where the other Horsemen have had to adapt to the changes around them.

Unfortunately, Mal’s differences create conflict in the well-oiled Horsemen machine. War and Min are very judgmental of their new younger “brother” whereas Death is having to mentor Mal heavily on the concept of consequences. Mal’s heart is in the right place. He’s the most eager and earnest of the Horsemen but he does wield a lot of power and where humanity is concerned, a light touch is often best.

Licking his wounds from some spectacular failures, Mal is still eager to prove himself. He is probably the most human of the Horsemen, settling into a new existence with a whole bunch of knowledge but an opaque amnesia of how to be a person… or even what kind of person he wants to be.

With the others’ strong personalities, Mal struggles to find his place…and wonders what the world is like outside of the Veil, outside of their bubble. As the Veil begin to thin around them, wraiths begin to feed on their hapless victims and Mal is thrust into the fray. A skirmish brings him into contact with a human, a delectable, broken young man who sees him. Actually sees Mal through the Veil.

And that’s where Mal’s troubles truly begin.

About Ink and Shadows

o-ink-and-shadowsKismet Andreas lives in fear of the shadows.

For the young tattoo artist, the shadows hold more than darkness. He is certain of his insanity because the dark holds creatures and crawling things only he can see—monsters who hunt out the weak to eat their minds and souls, leaving behind only empty husks and despair.

And if there’s one thing Kismet fears more than being hunted—it’s the madness left in its wake.

The shadowy Veil is Mal’s home. As Pestilence, he is the youngest—and most inexperienced—of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, immortal manifestations resurrected to serve—and cull—mankind. Invisible to all but the dead and insane, the Four exist between the Veil and the mortal world, bound to their nearly eternal fate. Feared by other immortals, the Horsemen live in near solitude but Mal longs to know more than Death, War and Famine.

Mal longs to be… more human. To interact with someone other than lunatics or the deceased.

When Kismet rescues Mal from a shadowy attack, Pestilence is suddenly thrust into a vicious war—where mankind is the prize, and the only one who has faith in Mal is the human the other Horsemen believe is destined to die.

The Pinch of the Game by Charley Descoteaux + Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway! NSFW

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

An Exclusive Excerpt from The Pinch of the Game

by Charley Descoteaux

Thank you, Blogger Girls, for hosting this last stop on my excerpt tour!

I wanted to end on a sexy note and for Michael, nothing is hotter than getting some from his favorite witch.

The lube opened with a soft snap, and soon his hot, slick thumb teased my hole. I moaned and pushed back, and he made a sound somewhere between a gasp and a sigh. Pretty soon it felt like half of his hand pumped into me. Wet slapping sounds in a slightly different rhythm tempted me to turn and look, but I wasn’t going to take control of anything. This was Jeffrey’s show, and he could run it any way he chose.

By the time he ripped open the condom, I was squirming on the bed, squeezing handfuls of the blankets to keep from demanding he fuck me. Begging him to fuck me. I ground my hips into the bed, and Jeffrey leaned against my ass. His fingers hit the spot on every thrust, and I cried out when his other hand gripped my balls. He rolled them in the palm of his hand like billiard balls, and I buried my face in the bed so my shouting wouldn’t bring the cops. I’d never felt anything even close to this good, the pleasure of being Jeffrey Overton’s fucktoy.

It was excruciating, not knowing what he’d do next. Excruciating, and I never wanted it to end.

About The Pinch of the Game

PinchOfTheGame[The]FSBeing a witch doesn’t mean one can beat the devil forever.

Jeffrey Overton, unemployed IT professional turned poker player, pushes his luck once too often and runs afoul of the host of an illegal card club. The man sent to escort Jeffrey to a “meeting” about his supernatural winning streak arrives at Jeffrey’s crappy North Portland apartment, lock-picking tools in hand and a charm to block Jeffrey’s magick.

Head muscle for said host, Mike Wells, is a Daisy from Daisyville. He isn’t a witch. What he lacks in magickal talent he makes up for in brawn, so he doesn’t expect the guy he’s after to overpower him. But once Mike renders Jeffrey helpless, he’d rather seduce him than bring him in.

Jeffrey and Michael ditch the “meeting” and end up hunting some of the same people they ran from, trying to get Jeffrey back into his own body. And that’s only part of the adventure. The pair travel halfway across the country on the quietest road trip in history and find missing people, empire-building witches, and maybe even the families they’d both thought lost to them.

Spotlight: Don’t Judge by A.E. Via + Excerpt!

Dont-Judge-CustomDesign-JayAheer2015-banner2

Excerpt from Don’t Judge

by A.E. Via

Judge carefully scanned each document that was relevant to tracking someone. He could care less about what laws the man had broken, it wasn’t his job to determine if he needed arresting or if he as guilty. His job was to bring him in. “I take it you want this guy alive.” That comment got him a lot of stares.

“If you don’t mind.” Day said between clinched teeth.

Judge looked around. “You do understand this guy is a murderer. You think he’s gonna roll out a welcome mat for me.”

He watched God rear back in his seat and run his hands through his long hair. “I know that, Judge. Just try. I’m not telling you to get yourself killed. But if you don’t have to take a kill shot, I’d appreciate it.”

“I make no promises.”

“Of course not.” Day said drily. “you just make sure to bring my sniper back alive and you won’t have any beef out of me.”

Judge snapped back up, pulling his cane out of his mouth. “Excuse me.”

God grimaced and glared at Day. “I hadn’t exactly told him yet.” He whispered but Judge heard him loud and clear.

“Told me what, God?” Judge stood. “And it better not be what I think it is.”

“Judge. I need this guy in custody and I need it done quietly. So I want one of my guys to go with -”

“Hell no.” Judge backed up. “I don’t need any help you know that.”

“He’s not gonna be there to help you, he’s there to keep things quiet.”

“You think I need a goddamn do-gooder-baby-sitter, telling me how to do my fuckin’ job?”

“You know damn well I’m not saying that. I need assurance that this will keep kept quiet and I also know you wouldn’t be bothered with giving me updates.

Judge scoffed. “Quiet. You think I haven’t heard of these two.” He pointed to the two men that were introduced as Ruxs and Green. Now that he had a face to go with the names he knew who to point to. “These guys are the epitome of loud noise and ruckus.”

“Because that’s their job.”

“Fuck no.” Judge growled.

“You owe me, goddamnit!” God stood and came around the table to square off with him.  Bookem stood and growled but didn’t attack. He’d never do that without command. God ignored the warning and stood directly in front of him. “Now, I’m asking for my favor. Are you going to refuse me, Judge?”

Son of a -. Judge gritted his teeth. God knew he’d never go back on his word. God gave him a few minutes to stew in his anger. All eyes were on him, waiting. Reluctantly he asked, “Who is he?”

“Detective Austin Michaels.” God replied. His voice and demeanor looked as if he was proud to present this guy.

Judge rolled his eyes when he saw Detective Michaels stand up. Of course it had to be him. The sexiest one of them all. Shit.  When the man came over to glare at him, Judge had to be sure not to show his surprise or amusement. The little fucker. Actually he wasn’t so little. He was tall and built. Compact muscles over smooth ivory skin. No doubt he was as macho and straight as an arrow, those kinds usually were. Judge was eager to see how the man handled himself.

blogger_bee_trans

About Don’t Judge

1Detective Austin Michaels didn’t think life could get any better after he was accepted into the most notorious narcotics task force on the East Coast, headed up by two of the baddest’ Lieutenants with the Atlanta Police Department – Cashel Godfrey and Leonidis Day.

Michaels knew he would fit right in as the team’s sniper, having received his fair share of commendations for marksmanship. He was just as badass as the rest of the twenty brothers that made up their team. But when Michaels lets their prime suspect get away from a huge bust with over a quarter of a million dollars in drugs, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it right.

Left with no other options, God chooses to bring in outside help, calling on his long-time friend and bounty hunter, Judge Josephson.

Judge was considered one of the best trackers during his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. After retiring, he used those skills to become one of the most sought out fugitive trackers in the country. When Judge gets a call from his old friend needing his help, he quickly tells God, yes.

Still embarrassed, and intent to prove himself, Michaels immediately volunteers to partner up with Judge to get their suspect back quickly and quietly. Neither man wanted or needed a partner. But, after Judge and Michaels get on the road, the hate/lust relationship they quickly develop between them will either make them heroes… Or get them killed.

Honorary Blogger J.K. Hogan: McGinty & Hale – “Crime-fighting duo” from Shadows Fall + Excerpt & Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

McGinty & Hale – “Crime-fighting duo” from Shadows Fall

by J.K. Hogan

To be honest, I wouldn’t say the pairing of Titus and Charlie was a conscious decision on my part. It’s more like I envisioned the characters, and their stories seemed to evolve with minds of their own. I try not to pay too much attention to what has been done and what hasn’t, because sadly the publishing market is so saturated, almost nothing is original. I try to focus on being true to my story and making it the best it can be.

The first thing that came to me became the first line in the book: My name is Titus Finnbar McGinty and I see dead people. I know for sure Titus wouldn’t call himself a medium or a psychic. In fact, he’d probably take offense to it. ☺ He never set out to work with the police, especially since a cultural distrust of them had been instilled in him from a young age. In fact, he just wanted to be left alone. Unfortunately, the victims of the Queen City Slayer kept finding him.

I’d say Shadows Fall is different because of the characters themselves. Titus’s self-sufficiency defies the typical (forgive me) damsel-in-distress archetype that we often see paired with detectives in books. Charlie is different too. He’s not an alpha-male stereotypical cop. He’s kind and quiet, and ruthlessly dedicated to his job, so much that it actually hurts him when he can’t save people. That and how they work together make my story a new take on the cop/medium pairing.

blogger_bee_trans

About Shadows Fall

ShadowsFall_FinalCoverRGBA gift—or curse—gives Titus McGinty the unwanted ability to talk to ghosts. When he starts seeing the same few apparitions repeatedly, appearing with similar gruesome injuries, he begins to wonder what they want from him.

Detective Charlie Hale has a serial killer on his hands. On the loose for weeks, the Queen City Slayer has left the police nothing to go on, no forensic evidence other than what he wants found. The city is running out of time.

The crisis brings Titus and Charlie together—Titus stumbles upon a body and finds himself a suspect. Their budding romance is tested as they are sucked into a web of underground laboratories, restive spirits, and religious fanaticism. They’ll have to work together to find the identity of the killer before he takes his next victim…Titus.

An Excerpt from Shadows Falls

I always hated walking home alone at night on the deserted city streets. But I couldn’t ask my employees to do something I was scared to do myself, so I’d taken the late shift. In the dark, the wandering dead became nothing but sliding shadows and hissing whispers. The phrase ‘jumping at shadows’ is apt, because there were things in the shadows.

Those things slithered around me, feeling much more insidious in the murky stillness of the nighttime city. Hands in my pockets, I gripped my four inch pocket knife that I always carried. Fat lot of good it would do me against mule, but there was a killer on the loose after all.

It was ill-advised, but I still blasted my music inside my headphones. I didn’t want to hear what the spirits had to say in gloam. I mostly kept my eyes glued to the sidewalk in front of me—don’t stand out, don’t make eye contact, make yourself invisible—but I cast glances all around my periphery to keep aware of my surroundings.

A tall, skinny man approached, heading toward me on the opposite side of the sidewalk. He wore dark jeans and a black hoodie with the hood pulled up, casting his face in shadow. I found that odd, as it was one of those warm, humid nights the Southern springtime was famous for. His dark eyes glittered at me from the empty void where his face should be, obviously a trick of the poor lighting.

As he passed me, he clipped my shoulder, throwing me off balance. I wanted to turn around and yell, but self-preservation intervened. I could probably take him in hand-to-hand, but he could be packing for all I knew. I put my head down and kept walking.

I yelped when a spirit appeared in front of me—unlike what movies and television showed, they didn’t usually just pop up. He was a young man, probably about my age, with pale skin, black hair, and eyes so blue they seemed otherworldly… and he was gorgeous. I blinked, hoping he’d disappear. No such luck.

He turned his head towards the building beside us that was being renovated, the entrance to which was blocked off with caution tape. Stretching out his left arm, he pointed to it, and I could see bone-deep gouges in his wrist and forearm. He glanced at me again. Look.

“Not tonight, okay?” I mumbled, trying to step around him. In the blink of an eye, he disappeared and rematerialized right in front of me. See!

“No,” I said, getting angry. I walked straight through him. Usually when I passed through a spirit, I just felt a slick, oily cold sliding through my body—but this burned like a vat of acid had been dumped over me. I screamed and fell to my knees.

He appeared in front of me again. As I looked up at him, still reeling from the pain, it occurred to me how new he must be. When a mulo first left its body, it still maintained some measure of its humanity. It was able to take and maintain a corporeal form more easily than the older spirits, and the ability faded with each day since its passing.

He pointed again and this time, his eyes took on a pleading quality. I could practically feel his anguish.

Struggling to my feet, I brushed myself off and sighed. “Fine, I’ll look. But then you need to leave me the hell alone. I ducked under the caution tape strung across the doorless entry of the run-down building. It was almost pitch black inside, but I got a vague sense of sawhorses and scaffolds. Tip-toeing for some inconceivable reason, I made my way into some kind of vestibule or foyer. I didn’t notice anything that this mulo would be so desperate for me to see, but I couldn’t really see much at all.

My foot hit something solid and I was afraid to go any further into the dark. Who knew what kind of hazards were strewn about the construction site. I dug out my iPhone and swiped it to turn on the flashlight app. A bright light shone out of the camera flash and illuminated the dusty room in front of me—and the man lying all too still on the floor.

I screamed for the second time in five minutes, stumbled back against a plastic-draped scaffolding and dropped my phone. I assumed it landed screen up, because the room was suddenly plunged back into darkness. With my skin crawling, I felt around on the floor for the hard case. Instead, I grabbed a cold leg.

“Holy God!” I shouted, scrambling backwards and sideways until my back hit a wall. My pulse pounded and my head was spinning with the urge to pass the fuck out, either from fright or hyperventilation. My muscles were on lockdown, frozen into that gray area between fight-or-flight, but I knew I had to find my phone so I could get the hell out of there.

And the body… I’d have to call someone. I poked around with the toe of my shoe, carefully avoiding the area of blackness where I thought the body was. Finally I felt the phone. I dragged it across the floor with my foot until I was able to pick it up. Everything was illuminated once again. “Oh thank God,” I said.

But once there was light, I could see him again. His head was turned to face away from me, but I knew that it was the guy from outside. Obviously he’d wanted me to find his body. It was laid out like a sacrifice, arms stretched out to reveal the deep cuts on his arms. I shivered. My brain was finally catching up to the situation, and I realized it was entirely possible that the killer could still be here.

I quickly got to my feet and lurched toward the dim light pooling at the doorway. As soon as I was out of there, I pressed my back up against the cool façade of the building and panted to catch my breath. I see the dead all the time, but I’d never actually seen a dead body before. I wasn’t sure what to do; the only thing I could think was call Charlie.

With shaking hands, I pulled up his number on my phone—I may have entered it from the business card he gave me after chasing Jay out of the shop. I pressed send and he picked up on the first ring.

“Hale.”

“Ch-Charlie?”

“Who’s this?”

“Titus.” My voice was shaking and I was embarrassingly close to tears. “I need help.”

“Tell me where you are and I’ll be right there.”

I rattled off my general location, already soothed by the sound of his voice, the confidence in it. “Please hurry,” I said.

“Stay put, I’m on my way.”

Strange Bedfellows by Cardeno C.: Exclusive Excerpt + Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from Strange Bedfellows

by Cardeno C.

“You know, I just realized something,” Trevor said.

“What?”

“We’re wet and naked.”

“You just realized that?” Ford said, arching his eyebrows in amusement.

“Well, we were talking so I got distracted but now that we’re done…” Trevor dragged his gaze from

Ford’s face, down his torso, and paused at his dick before returning to his eyes.

“Yeah,” Ford said, his voice thicker. “Now that we’re done…” He followed Trevor’s lead and dropped his gaze to Trevor’s filling cock.

“That shower bench is strong enough and wide enough to hold us both or we can try out the bed. The mattress is firm and the sheets are this insanely soft cotton I picked up in Italy.”

“I have to choose?” Ford asked, the sides of his lips twitching.

Trevor stepped over to him, clutched his hips, and yanked him forward, bringing their groins together. “That depends. Can you spend the night?”

“My flight’s at nine tomorrow morning. I’ll need to leave here at seven so I can pick up my bag, check out of my hotel, and get to the airport on time.”

Pressing his face to Ford’s neck, Trevor inhaled deeply. “I’ll give you an unforgettable wake-up call and send you off with a strong cup of coffee.”

“Trevor?”

“Yes?” Trevor raised his face and met Ford’s eyes.

“I never do this. Even the few times I’ve been with a guy, I haven’t spent the night. You know who I am, so this is different, but I’m still not in a position to… I’m not ready to—”

“Even if they start out wanting to get into my pants, most guys get distracted by my bank account or my parents. I brought you here because I figured someone like you wouldn’t care about either and we could have fun without posturing or nervousness or whatever other bullshit people take to bed when they want something other than a good, hard fuck.” Trevor slid his hands over Ford’s shoulders, cupped his cheeks, and leaned forward. “The only position I want from you is on your back, legs spread. Or on all fours, ass high. Or inside me, balls deep. Think you’re ready for that?”

Shivering, Ford hoarsely said, “Yeah.” He gulped. “I think all of those sound perfect.” He cleared his throat. “Really perfect.”

“Glad we’re on the same page.”blogger_bee_trans

About Strange Bedfellows

25734007Can the billionaire son of a Democratic president build a family with the congressman son of a Republican senator? Forget politics, love makes strange bedfellows.

As the sole offspring of the Democratic United States president and his political operative wife, Trevor Moga was raised in an environment driven by the election cycle. During childhood, he fantasized about living in a made-for-television family, and as an adult, he rejected all things politics and built a highly successful career as far from his parents as possible.

Newly elected congressman Ford Hollingsworth is Republican royalty. The grandson of a revered governor and son of a respected senator, he was bred to value faith, family, and the goal of seeing a Hollingsworth in the White House.

When Trevor and Ford meet, sparks fly and a strong friendship is formed. But can the billionaire son of a Democratic president build a family with the congressman son of a Republican senator? Forget politics, love makes strange bedfellows.

Honorary Blogger Lori A. Witt: Going Back to My Roots + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Going Back to My Roots

by Lori A. Witt

I’ve been writing romance since late 2008, and publishing since the end of 2009, but I’ve actually been writing for much longer than that. Though I’ve dabbled in various subgenres—cyberpunk, historical, suspense—it’s been nonstop romance for the last several years.

Up until I made that fateful switch to romance, though, most of my writing had been science fiction or fantasy. Even now, SFF still makes up the bulk of what I read for pleasure. I’m a proud nerd—I’ve loved Star Wars since I was a kid, I’ve played Magic: The Gathering since the mid 1990s, and I can still beat The Legend of Zelda. I’ve never played Dungeons & Dragons, though, and despite multiple attempts, have never been able to read any of Tolkien’s work, so I might not be, like, nerd supreme, but definitely a nerd of sorts.

So writing The Tide of War wasn’t just an experiment, it was getting back to my roots. Back to spaceships and aliens, other worlds—the stuff I cut my teeth on and have always itched to write again. These are the kinds of stories where no character is safe. Okay, I don’t quite write Game of Thrones level character extermination, but this isn’t a light story. It’s about war. War involves heartbreak. And these characters get their hearts—and other body parts—broken quite frequently.

(Yes, that sound you hear in the background is me cackling madly.)

Does this mean I’m stepping away from romance? Not at all. Diversifying, really. Letting those science fiction and fantasy plot bunnies come to life after pushing them to the back burner for the past few years. Some stories will have romances in them, some won’t. The Tide of War has a love story, but it’s not the main plot (though it does have a major impact on the plot). Some will have sex in them, some won’t. The as-yet-untitled sequel to The Tide of War may have even less sex than the first one, or it may have more. My other in-progress scifi novel, Mythos, will have some sex and romance in it.

What’s next for Lori A. Witt? Well, the sequel and Mythos, as mentioned above. I also have some fantasy stories brewing. There’s an epic fantasy that’s been simmering quietly in the back of my skull for a good fifteen years now. When will those books be written? When will they be released? Hard to say. All I know is that it’s been a blast to revisit the genre that made me fall in love with writing in the first place, and y’all have definitely not heard the last of Lori A. Witt.

About The Tide of War

1Lieutenant Commander Kyle West is one of Earth Fleet’s greatest fighter pilots. Every day, he leads his squadron into battle over Earth’s cities in a seemingly endless war against a vicious alien race, defending his home and his loved ones.

Millions of miles away, the Fleet’s Elite Squadron attacks from another angle, engaging the enemy on its home turf. Casualties are high, and the Squadron needs more of the Fleet’s very best. But joining the Elite is a death sentence—a surety Kyle isn’t willing to face. Until a devastating attack wipes out the family he refused to leave.

Commander Andrei Dezhnyov, an Elite Squadron gunner, isn’t sure what to make of the cocky new American pilot. Kyle is equally uncertain about the snarly Russian, but as they warm up to each other, their tentative alliance becomes a deep bond—one that endangers them both when a daring and disobedient rescue reveals secrets that call into question everything they’ve ever believed about their enemy. Secrets that their superiors would kill to protect.

About Author

Lori A. Witt is the fourth corner of the Gallagher-Witt quad, and prefers to play in the genres of science fiction and fantasy over all that romance nonsense. Okay, so romance does show up sometimes, but these are the books she writes when she needs a change of pace. Sword and sorcery, spaceships, and just general weird nerdy goodness—Lori writes it all. Like the other members of the quad (L.A. Witt, Lauren Gallagher, and Ann Gallagher), Lori is in the process of relocating from Omahabad, Nebraskastan to the southwestern coast of Spain. In her spare time, she tries to stay out of the middle of L.A.’s and Lauren’s ongoing rivalry, while never missing a chance to trip Ann when she’s not paying attention.

Honorary Blogger Parker Williams: Love Stinks + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Love Stinks

by Parker Williams

I’d always known Casey was destined to be with another man. He was just too good a character to pass up an opportunity with. In Protector of the Alpha, Casey gets sprayed several times by a skunk. The SAME skunk. I knew that was his mate, even before I wrote the parts. I had actually done a little research on skunks in Alaska and was surprised to find out there aren’t any, so Sev was unique. What I didn’t know was going to be Sev’s background. When Jake, Zak, and Casey came upon them, Sev was being beaten by the crowd for stealing food. Zak put a stop to it, and we don’t hear from Sev again until the end of the book when he drops his bombshell on Jake.

I had thought about making each book self-contained, but I liked the idea of leaving it as a cliffhanger, if for no other reason than hoping people would like the story enough to want to pick up the second part.

In this book, Sev gets his chance to shine. Casey learns the truth about his destiny from an unlikely source, who may or may not have implications for his future, and they have the chance to be the heroes for a change.

Unfortunately no one gets to be a hero without being willing to pay a price of some sort. And for these men, the price may very well be much too high.

About Scent of the Heart

Scent-400x600 2Casey Scott grew up being told he’d never amount to anything, and despite the unwavering love and support from his best friend, Jake, the idea sticks in the back of Casey’s mind. When he discovers he has a unique destiny in an enclave where shifters and humans live together, he seizes the chance, wanting for once in his life to be someone special.

Tsvetok Yerokhin lost his parents to the evil ruler of the enclave when he was a boy. The responsibilities of raising his two younger brothers nearly overwhelmed him and self- doubt took over. When the new Alpha and his Protector arrive in time to save his life, Sev is grateful, but he’s even more shocked when he scents his mate with them.
Casey isn’t prepared for the feelings that sweep over him when he meets Sev, but he refuses to act on them because he’s straight. Still, there is something so alluring about Sev that Casey can’t help being drawn to him.

As the two explore the edges of their new discovery, an evil returns, determined to control the enclave or destroy it. The Alpha and Protector are powerless to stop it, but Casey holds the key to victory. If he can discover what it is, he has a chance to save them all. To be the hero.

Unfortunately, the hero has to be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, and for Casey that means losing his heart.
