Release Blitz: The Husband Gambit by L.A. Witt + Giveaway!

The Husband Gambit by L.A. Witt

The meaningful photo of chess king staying before the set of another colour pieces.

Marry me for 1 year. Payment: $1.2 million.

Hayden Somerset is convinced the ad is a joke, but he responds anyway because, hello, $1.2 million. He’s broke, living in a tiny apartment with two roommates, and exhausted from praying his ancient car survives just one more week. His skyrocketing rent and crushing student loans aren’t helping either. At this point, there isn’t much Hayden wouldn’t do for that kind of cash.

The ad isn’t a joke. Jesse Ambrose is absolutely serious. His father, the charismatic patriarch of a powerful Hollywood dynasty, has his eye on politics, and he’s counting on California’s liberals and progressives to elect him. But Jesse knows what his father believes when cameras and voters aren’t around. As the election looms, he’ll do anything to force the man’s hand and show the public who Isaac Ambrose really is.

Anything, including marrying a stranger so his father will make good on his promise to disown Jesse if he ever takes a husband.

Now he just has to wait for his father to take the bait… and try not to accidentally fall in love with his fake husband.

Release Blitz: A Vampire’s Heart by Kayleigh Sky + Giveaway!

A Vampire’s Heart by Kayleigh Sky

Vampires live.

And they hunger…

Otto Jones, a cop assigned to the seemingly random murder of a vampire, would rather hide out in the nearest bar than waste his time on a dead vamp. He hates the bloodthirsty demons. But when the king of the vampires commands him to work with one of the lesser princes and find the killer, he has no choice.

Prince Jessamine Senera is ready to sacrifice his happiness in a loveless marriage for his family’s benefit… but not yet. He dreams of adventure, excitement, and true love. He lives on romance novels and detective stories and wishes he could drink synthetic blood like every other vampire. But he can’t. He needs human blood to survive and is hated by vampires and humans alike.

As Otto and Jessa draw closer to an entity that doesn’t want to be discovered, Otto finds the heart he thought long dead opening to the romance-loving Jessa. No good can possibly come from falling in love with a vampire, but when a shadowy assailant attacks Jessa, Otto will descend into the darkest pit of the earth to rescue him.

If you like vampires, mythical and urban settings, intense suspense, and happy ever after, then you’ll love this first book in the dark and mysterious Ellowyn Found trilogy!

A Vampire’s Heart is a stand-alone paranormal dystopian noir romance with a satisfying conclusion to the love story and a central mystery that weaves the trilogy together.

Honorary Blogger Morgan Brice: Psychic Sleuthing + Excerpt & Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Psychic Sleuthing

by Morgan Brice

I love pretty much anything supernatural or paranormal. That includes ghosts, psychics, mediums, monsters, magic…you get the picture.

I also really love mysteries. I’ve been hooked since I was a kid (Scooby-Doo remains, to this day, one of my favorite shows). I grew up reading mystery books, and I especially love paranormal mysteries, as well as crime dramas with a magical component.

And I’m also a big fan of books, movies and TV shows about monster hunters, including Supernatural, Van Helsing, Wynonna Earp, and the Harry Dresden books, to name a few.

On the non-romance side of my writing, as Gail Z. Martin, I write three urban fantasy series (Deadly Curiosities, the Night Vigil, and—co-written with Larry N. Martin—Spells, Salt and Steel) all of them in one way or another about hunting monsters, getting rid of cursed and haunted objects, fighting demons, and saving the world from supernatural threats.

So was it any surprise that when I started writing male/male romance it was going to be urban fantasy/paranormal? Let’s think about this: ghosts plus mystery plus crime plus sexy main characters? Hello!

In my Badlands series—which includes my Christmas novella, Lucky Town—Simon Kincaide is a psychic medium, so he gets glimpses of the future and can talk to ghosts. He teams up with skeptical cop Vic D’Amato to hunt down supernatural killers in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Simon also has made connections with what he calls his ‘Skeleton Crew’—people with low-level, untrained psychic gifts who also live and work in Myrtle Beach. Often, their abilities have caused them trouble and heartache, because they didn’t have anyone to guide them, or they didn’t understand how to use their gifts. Simon tries to teach his Crew how to manage their abilities without causing further harm to others or themselves, and they become an intelligence network for him, letting Simon know what they hear when things get dicey.

My Witchbane series also has a a big mystery at the center of the plot. Seth Tanner’s brother, Jesse, was killed by a dark warlock, part of a cycle of ritual killings that has gone on for a century. Seth vows to find the warlocks involved, and stop the murders. He never expects to fall in love with the warlocks’ next victim. Once he and Evan get together, the race is on to find the rest of the intended victims and warlocks and stop the murders once and for all—or die trying.

I try very hard to make my books solidly urban fantasy/paranormal mystery AND solidly male/male romance, which is for me, the best of both worlds. I want to give you a spooky, scary, sexy and suspenseful thrill ride, that ends with a happily ever after and the bad guys muttering, “And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for those meddling men!”

Honorary Blogger CJane Elliott: Day Off + Excerpt & Giveaway

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Day Off

by CJane Elliott

Hi, all! I’m CJane Elliott here to share about my new release, The Kinsey Scale. Thanks to The Blogger Girls for being the first stop on my blog tour. The Kinsey Scale is a cute college contemporary which features mixed-up boys who are hot for each other. Fun!

The Kinsey Scale starts when Eric and Will discover they have to share a dorm room. They are college seniors who are co-RAs (resident assistants who live in freshman dorms to help counsel the students). RAs usually get their own rooms but not this year because where’s the fun in that? Not only do Eric and Will seem like polar opposites but now they’re stuck with each other in a small dorm room all year. (Yes, authors are evil and love to torture their characters.)

I thought I’d have Will and Eric talk about what they enjoy doing on their days off. This conversation takes place when they’ve been roomies only a short time and the differences between them are obvious.

ERIC: One of the things I enjoy the most is sleeping in. I’m usually out dancing until late on Friday so the priority Saturday is spending as much time as possible in bed. [glances at Will] With or without someone in it with me.

WILL: Hmm.

ERIC: Go on, Will, tell them how you spend your weekends. I never know because you’re always over at Jessie’s. You all probably get up early and go play Frisbee or do something athletic, right? Or watch the football games on TV, huh? Soooo exciting.

WILL:  Something like that. But before that exciting stuff, I cook breakfast.

ERIC: You cook?

WILL: [stares Eric down] Yeah. Why? Is that so hard to believe?

ERIC: Oh, um, no. I’m just jealous because we’re stuck in this dorm room with no kitchen.

WILL: And you’re assuming I’d cook for you if we had one.

ERIC: [winsome smile] I bet you would.

WILL: Naw, I’d be out doing ‘something athletic’ way before you even wake up. We like hiking.

ERIC: Sounds… tiring.

WILL: Being out in nature rocks. You should try it sometime. So once you wake up, what else do you do on weekends? If anything.

ERIC: Hey! I’m very productive. I hang out with Jerry and Tyrone. Get a massage at the spa. Go shopping. And don’t forget play rehearsals once a new production starts up.

WILL: And these are all things you enjoy.

ERIC: Of course.

WILL: Okay, then.

I think I’ll stop them there while they’re trading glares! Never fear, they get to their happy ending… eventually.

Thanks for stopping in today. Enjoy The Kinsey Scale.

For the next stop on the Kinsey Scale blog tour, check out MM Good Book Reviews tomorrow, 11/11. I’ll have an exclusive excerpt which shows the boys having warmed up to each other. Too bad that means the sexual tension is beginning to heat up too!

Green Death by Madeleine Ribbon: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from Green Death

by Madeleine Ribbon

The third time I woke, little things began to seep into my awareness. Water dripping. A harsh electrical hum. Very rarely, muffled talking. The last thing that fell into place was the sound of long, slow breathing.

I wasn’t alone.

I was still in the exclusion zone, and I wasn’t alone.

The thought turned my stomach. I had to find a way out of this situation if I wanted to survive.

I slowly, carefully wiggled my toes. Then my fingers. I tensed my legs, one at a time, and everything moved without much pain.

And then realization hit me. I wasn’t tied to anything. My captors hadn’t restrained me.

I tried not to get too happy about that. I could still be in a prison of some sort. There could be bars, or locks, or a labyrinth between me and the outside.

I eased my eyelids open just a hair, and the world around me appeared in shadowed relief.

A light flickered high above me, casting jarring shapes on the walls. I didn’t see any sort of green haze between me and the ceiling, which surprised me quite a bit. The room felt small, but that might have been because of the large man seated at a square table. He faced away, head bowed nearly to the wood, shoulders rounded forward.

I blinked hard to clear my vision.

His shoulders seemed wider than the door frame beyond him, and his threadbare shirt stretched with each breath. One arm hung at his side, hand dangling in the air next to the chair. His head was tilted just a little to the side, and I realized with a jolt that he had a dark tattoo covering what little of his cheek I could see.

A Greenie. I was trapped with a Greenie—one that could snap me in two without much effort, at that. At least he was sleeping. That deep, slow breathing, more than anything, kept me from panicking.

I looked around the room. An open door next to my bed gave me a glimpse of a chipped toilet rim. A bathroom. Along the other wall of my room was a long countertop with a small metal sink. A blackened water spout came directly out of the wall above it. A cup rested next to it, with long silver instruments emerging from the top like a bouquet. A few more lay on the counter. Among them, I recognized a scalpel. The blade shone in the dim overhead light.

I could use that knife, if I had to. Any weapon was better than none.

And what kind of captor left a potential weapon out?

I could try to grab that and escape. I could do it fast, or I could go slow. Fast, and I’d definitely wake the sleeping Greenie, but I might be able to grab the knife and get out of the room before he was jarred into action. If I went slow and could be quiet enough, I could get out of here long before he woke.

I shifted my leg, slow and easy, toward the side of the bed. My hip twinged as I bent my knee and placed one foot on the floor. I watched, stomach churning, as the muscle in my captor’s right shoulder twitched, but his breathing never changed.

I pushed myself upright, and the ragged blanket fell into my lap. Chill air hit my chest, and I looked down.

I only wore a threadbare pair of drawstring pants settled low on my hips. I hadn’t realized, before. Some long, bright red lines streaked across my stomach, and ugly black stitching looked like it was the only thing holding me closed. The skin puckered and ridged along each stitched line, and I brushed against the thickest wound. It didn’t hurt too badly, but it definitely tingled in a way the rest of my skin didn’t.

How long had I been here?

Something bunched and crinkled under my chin, making my neck movements stiff. It pulled at the skin, as I craned my head down. I ran my hand up from my chest, and my fingers met bandages.

I remembered the look in the woman’s eyes before I thought she’d killed me, and then her brandishing her knife. Had she tried to slit my throat? She couldn’t possibly have missed, could she? If not, how in the hell had I not bled out?

Had the big Greenie been the one to save me? How, if he was a Greenie? They were violent monsters, right?

No matter what his intentions, that scalpel was the only thing that might protect me.

I twisted around and got my other leg over the side of the bed. So far, so good. My body only gave the faintest of complaints, despite all the evidence of massive injury.

A voice cleared, and I froze. “I hope you aren’t planning to attack me,” the man at the table said in a rumbling voice.

His Two Leading Men by Aidan Wayne: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from His Two Leading Men

by Aidan Wayne

“So how’d you end up on Broadway?” Russell asked, after they’d ordered and were waiting on their food. “You guys always have some stories to tell.”

“Mine’s pretty boring,” Skye said honestly. “I’ve got family in the area, which let me spend a lot of time auditioning around here. Child’s Play is my Broadway debut.”

Russell shook his head. “Gotta be more to it than that. How long did you spend auditioning? How did the audition go?”

“Oh, uh,” Skye laughed. “A few years. I mean, that’s how long I’ve been attending auditions. The audition for Child’s Play, well, they asked me to act as princely as possible. And my cousin has the most snooty, pampered, ‘I’ll grace you with my presence’ cat on the planet. So I just channeled her. The cat. Not my cousin.”

Russell smiled at him. “I figured.”

Skye’s cheeks went hot. He coughed. “Right, well, it worked out. I owe them both a lot. My family in general has been really supportive. They’re how I got where I am so far.”

“Broadway star?”

“Shh, please don’t jinx it! We can talk about it once the show actually opens. Maybe.” The horror stories of shows that got all the way through rehearsals only to close before opening day still circulated. It was a very real fear. Child’s Play was new, and there was a chance it wouldn’t do well. Even once it opened, if it didn’t go over well with the critics…  “Anyway, I’m not counting on anything. I can’t.”

“Do you do something else then?”

“Oh yeah, of course. Don’t we all?”

“What do you do?”

“I work at a dance studio. I teach. Or tutor, really. I have privates.”

“Oh yeah? Bet they all were excited when their teacher went bigtime.”

Skye ducked his head. “Maybe a little, yeah.” He’d gotten some very nice pay increases, and several new students. Some people had suggested that he stop teaching now that he was ‘bigtime’ but he was of the opinion that it was even more of a reason to stay on in the teaching circuit. Having a name, being able to help his students improve… that all helped success for everyone involved. “It was nice to have them all behind me.”

“I like the sound of that.”

“Of what?”

Russell shrugged. “How much appreciation you have for your people. That’s a good show of character.”

“Well, yeah. I mean, I wouldn’t be living my dream without any of them.”

“Like I said,” Russell smiled. “I like that.”

“Here you are, boys,” their waitress said, placing their plates down. Russell had ordered an old-fashioned burger with fries, so Skye had just gotten the same thing. But with extra lettuce. Easy.

“Thanks,” they both chorused.

Skye took a bite of his burger, chewed, swallowed, then asked, “What about you?”

“Hm?”

“How’d you get into show business?”

Russell grinned. “I’m really good at picking up heavy stuff and putting it down.”

“I’m… what?”

“I’m kidding. For backstage work like this, it’s usually knowing someone who knows someone. I had a friend who went into fashion design, and I was always helping out with her runway shows.” Russell rubbed the back of his neck. “At first she wanted me to model, since I’m ‘built the right way’” he made finger quotes in the air, which made Skye giggle, “but I was way more comfortable out of the spotlight. Got really good at helping the models change, touch-up, that sort of thing. Kept my ear to the ground and applied to work Phantom a while back, and I’ve been on the Broadway circuit radar ever since. For actual shows I’m usually put on quick-changes because they’re my specialty. I’m hoping to stick with Child’s Play for a while. We’ve got a really good crew.”

“I think so too, from what I’ve met of it.” Skye picked up a fry. “You’re pretty cool so far.”

Russell grinned at him. “You’re not so bad yourself.”

Honorary Blogger Colette Davison: Second Chances + Excerpt & Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Second Chances

by Colette Davison

Why I Left You is a second chance romance about two young men reconnecting after four years of being apart. They have painful memories to traverse in order to reach their happy ever after. They also have to rediscover who the other is. More than being a second chance romance, it’s about Jamie seizing his second chance at life and happiness after a failed suicide attempt.

The whole Why I… series is very much about second chances.

In Why I Need You, Noah has to decide if he wants to give Fin a second chance, after he discovers the early stages of their relationship was based on mistruths. For Fin, telling the truth becomes something he puts off, believing he’ll lose the man he’s falling in love with. Of course, keeping his truths to himself means that’s exactly what happens, but not for the reasons he was afraid of.

In Why I Trust You, Ryan isn’t sure he can explore a second chance at love, after escaping an abusive relationship. Martin has to help him see that trust is possible, despite the horrors of his past.

Why did I decide to write about second chances?

I think in life we all wish we had at least one do-over (or, more likely, several dozen). How many times have you wished you’d done or said something different? How many times have you regretted your actions? I’m amazing at running through things in my head, wondering what I could do differently, if only I had a second chance at that one moment in time where I screwed up.

Do-overs don’t exist; we can’t go back in time. That doesn’t mean we can’t make things right in other ways, or receive forgiveness from those with hurt. It doesn’t mean the people around us won’t give us a second chance.

Second chances should be seized when they are given to us. Make the most of them. They are things to be treasured. My characters in the Why I… series are not perfect. They make mistakes, some of which are colossal. However, the people who love them provide them with that precious second chance. It’s making the most of those opportunities that allow each couple to reach their happy endings.

The next time you’re presented with a second chance, make the most of it. Who knows, maybe it’ll lead you to your own happy ever after.

The Signal Box by Lazlo Thorn: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from The Signal Box

by Lazlo Thorn

Davy opened the heavy iron gate and entered the graveyard. The birds were singing in the nearby trees. They sounded happy. He closed the gate behind him. He preferred the graveyard at this time of year. In the winter, surrounded by the dead trees and the squawking ravens, it was a depressing place. But now in the spring, when the trees were in bloom and the birds were preparing to nest, it spoke of hope and renewal. And his gran had been a big advocate of hope and renewal.

He walked the short distance among the graves to where his Gran was resting. It was a simple grave, but then she wasn’t a fussy woman. The gravestone read: Emma Buckland, beloved wife and grandmother, born 1849, died 1913. He knelt and cleared a couple of small fallen branches in front of the headstone. The daffodils he had brought, her favourite flowers, were still wet with the early morning dew. He laid them reverentially on the grave. He stood up and took his cloth cap off. He wasn’t a particularly religious man. Praying wasn’t really his thing. But a part of him still trusted what they used to tell him in Sunday school that somehow life would go on and standing there among the sights, sounds and smells of spring, the yellow daffodils and the rising blades of fresh green grass, he could almost believe it.

“Hello, Gran,” he said. “Sorry it’s been so long. You know how it is. I’ve been busy with work and things. Look, I’ve brought your favourite flowers. I know how much you love them. So, what can I tell you? Jackie’s fine, doing well at her new school. A friend from the village, that Roberta girl, she’s gone up to spend a few days with her in Swindon. She’ll like that. I’m sure she misses her old friends. Life at the sheds hasn’t really changed. Well, it hasn’t but I have. That’s another reason why I’ve not been out to see you. I’m working extra shifts at the station. Mucking in with other jobs. I need to get on see, and I will. It’s all just a matter of distinguishing myself in the right eyes. So that’s what I’m doing.”

He paused. He had something big he wanted to tell her. But he just wasn’t sure how.

“I made a new friend. Mr Bixby, he’s the signalman. Don’t know if you ever met him. Nice chap. But then I guess you know that. In fact, I guess you see a lot from where you’re sitting right now. So, you probably also know that I’m in love. I’m in love with the signalman. You always did say I were different. Well you was right and maybe I ought to feel bad about that but I don’t. All I know is he makes me happy and he cares for me and he looks after me and why should it matter that he’s a man if we make each other happy? And he needs someone too. We all need someone, Gran. There I’ve said it. I can’t tell no one else so I’ve told you. I hope you understand.”

He drew a breath, relieved to have heard himself say these things at last and taking strength from the smell of new life lacing the fresh spring air, he straightened up and put his cap back on.

“I’ll not leave it so long next time. I promise. See you, Gran. I love you.”

Davy turned and made his way back to the iron gate. As he closed it, he looked up in the direction of his gran’s grave. A red squirrel darted across the graveyard and sat atop his grandmother’s tombstone. It looked back and studied Davy with its very big, dark eyes. Eyes so big and so dark you could fall into them …
