Blurb:  Out here in the North Sea love usually passes a man by like a ship in the night. So it’s a nice surprise when the captain of the ship hired to transport Ivan’s platform rig into port for the winter might actually offer some unexpected non-business type amenities as well.

Ivan Voloshyn owns and operates the Marianna Shoal, a deep sea oil rig. It’s hard work and long days out in harsh weather. And he loves it that way. Because that’s what he knows. Seabeds— rigs— oil— and bad weather. He’s also about to find out the Norse Gods have a sense of humor. For who should it be to come riding in on the Sea Dock Heavy Lift ship? Another Ivan.

Captain Ivan Blažević knows who he is and what he wants. Problem is, he also knows he can’t have it. Just because the rest of the world is coming out of the closet doesn’t mean every gay man can or should. Out here on the seas the weather can change in an instant. He needs to trust his crew to do their job, and their hostility towards gays would get in the way of that if he was ever found out.

Ivan-the rig-owner’s very presence threatens Blažević’s closet doors, nevertheless it’s hard to turn that away, because he wants him to keep doing so.

Out here, the North Sea can change a man’s life— but hatred can take it away.

Author Q&A with Elizabeth Noble + Giveaway!

Interview Banner

Hi Elizabeth, welcome to The Blogger Girls! Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

Hello and thank you for being a part of my blog tour. I’m an author for Dreamspinner Press. Shifting Chaos is my latest novel. It’s the final installment of The Sleepless City an urban fantasy series co-written with Anne Barwell.

How do you develop your plots and characters?

Since this particular series is co-written with another author, Anne Barwell we plotted the individual books as well as the series together. There were many fun hours spent in chat and via email working out the details. We began with Anne’s basic idea of an urban fantasy series and each of us added details to build from there.

Otherwise, when I’m writing solo I generally begin with plot ideas. I do a little research, which creates more ideas. Everything is stored in a OneNote notebook I create for each books and series. From there I decide what the characters are like and who they should be. Characters have a tendency to take over once created and they begin filling in their backstories, character traits and so on.

Who doesn’t love a good hero? Tell us about your protagonist. Was there a real life inspiration behind them?

Neither Forge or Blair have any specific individuals their personalities are based from. They’re more of an amalgamation of qualities I admire in people I know. I do use images as guides for their looks, mainly because that’s an easy way to keep those features consistent.

What real-life inspirations do you use when world building?

I do an enormous amount of research while developing my plots. There are always tidbits I find that become inspiration in either my current work in progress or a future one. I like to take real things and manipulate them into my alternate universe.

Did you learn anything from this book and what was it?

I did! I learned several creative and unique ways to vanquish a demon. I also learned a few interesting facts about tracking and the Algonquin language.

It’s your last meal on earth. What do you choose?

Iced tea. Pizza or burgers and fries with something gooey and chocolate for dessert. An amaretto sour would be lovely too.

Hallucinations grip the town and everyone in it, threatening to tear their precariously built family apart, and the only way forward is to bare all to each other. This means Declan and Blair need to learn to accept one another. Lucas Coate has to move forward without ties to his werewolf pack and live a monogamous life with Declan.

But while Forge and Declan confront horrors from their shared past, Simon learns a terrible truth about vampires—one he couldn’t have imagined in his worst nightmares.

About Elizabeth Noble

Elizabeth Noble started telling stories before she actually knew how to write, and her family was very happy when she learned to put words on a page. Those words turned into fan fiction that turned into a genuine love of M/M romance fiction. Being able to share her works with Dreamspinner is really a dream come true. She has a real love for a good mystery complete with murder and twisty plots as well as all things sci-fi, futuristic, and supernatural and a bit of an unnatural interest in a super-volcano in Wyoming.

Elizabeth has three grown children and is now happily owned by an adorable mixed breed canine princess named Rosie, and two cats, Murphy and Yeti. She lives in her native northeast Ohio, the perfect place for gardening, winter and summer sports (go Tribe!). When she’s not writing she’s working as a veterinary nurse, so don’t be surprised to see her men with a pet or three who are a very big part of their lives.

Two of Elizabeth’s books have received Honorable Mentions in the Rainbow Awards.

Lee Parker from the Sixth Sense Series by Sarah Madison: Giveaway!

Blogger_Character_Interview copy

Lee Parker from the Sixth Sense Series

by Sarah Madison

Hi Sarah, welcome to The Blogger Girls! Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

I have a physically and emotionally demanding day job, so I like to have fun with my writing. Mysteries, sci-fi, paranormal, historicals, you name it. I love plot-driven romances, and finding out what my characters are made of, so I like sticking them in hot water and seeing how strong they are. Like tea bags, only sexier.

Character interview: Lee Parker from the Sixth Sense series

What do you find attractive in a man?

Frankly, I’m an ass man. Give me that little perfect peach of an ass every time. I can tell the difference between a runner, a soccer guy, and a baseball player. Ass and arms. Yeah, I like forearms, too.

The first thing that went through your head when you saw John Flynn:

Huh. The first thing I thought was that he was a panther in a room full of tabbies. He was walking through the airport, and he just had this presence, you know? Like everyone else was imitation spread and he was the real thing—rich, velvety, melt-in-your-mouth butter. Oh, wait. Did I say that out loud?

He had this dark messy hair that looked like it was being deliberately uncooperative, and a two-day stubble that should have looked unkempt on an FBI agent but on him it was hot as hell. I thought he was out of my league, and I kind of resented him for not only that, but being the hot shot agent coming in to consult on a case. It took something… ah… weird happening for us to start working together instead of fighting each other.

I know sometimes he feels like he’s been cursed, but honestly, if things hadn’t turned out the way they did, I’m not sure we’d ever have gotten together.

Do you think you’ll insist the author visits you again?

Oh yeah. We’re not done. There are too many loose ends left, too many unsolved mysteries. She left us hanging for a long time at first, but that’s because she’s a bit of a magpie—always the ‘new, shiny!’ with that one. Still, she’s been pretty reliable once you can get her attention, so I wouldn’t want to tell my story to anyone else.

Before you met (insert other character here), what was your ideal man?

I’m embarrassed to say this, but nothing like John. I thought the ideal man was witty and urbane, well-educated and with sophisticated tastes in the amenities of life: art, music, wine, and food. We’d go to galleries and the theater together, and host elegant parties in my apartment in San Francisco. John doesn’t drink, and thinks a weekend isn’t complete unless you come home muddy and wet. He prefers pizza to haute cuisine, and his idea of a nice evening is to marathon the X-Files.

The funny thing is, I had the ‘ideal man’ once. And he turned out to be a major jerk. John is learning to like my cooking and we both like Babylon 5. And the sex is amazing. So yeah, no complaints here.

You’re going out for dinner. What’s your favorite food?

Oh man, I’m not sure I can narrow it down. See, I love food. Nothing makes me happier than a piece of salmon, grilled to perfection, nestled on a bed of greens with just a hint of lemon. Potatoes whipped with cream cheese and garnished with parsley. Fresh, crusty bread, hot out of the oven and brushed with butter. A dense chocolate torte with a tart raspberry sauce dribbled over it, the bite of the sauce mixing perfectly with the sweet of the chocolate to explode on your taste buds…

I love sushi too. So give me your unagi makizushi, maguro sushi, tako sushi, California rolls, you name it, I’ll try it. The food in San Francisco is fantastic, and I love eating out at great restaurants. I think Anthony Bourdain has my dream job.

Also, I’m from the South, so at Thanksgiving you’ll find me roasting a 20 pound turkey with stuffing. There’ll be mashed potatoes and candied yams, and green beans cooked all day long on the stove with a little sugar and some fatback. There’ll be ham biscuits, and yeast rolls, and corn pudding. I’ll make my granny’s world-famous sausage balls (I’m the only one who knows her secret recipe) and there will be pumpkin pie along with Red Velvet cake, too.

Sometimes, though, there’s nothing that can beat a great big cheeseburger: a slab of meat on a sesame seed bun, layered with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo and served up with a plate of crinkle cut fries and ketchup. Pour me an ice-cold Coke to go along with it, and I’m in heaven.

I grew up in a rather cold house raised by a hard woman. When my mamma kicked me out, I moved in with granny. She taught me to cook, and I guess it’s no wonder I equate food with love.

Honorary Blogger Lane Hayes: The Joy of Discovery + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

The Joy of Discovery

by Lane Hayes

I admire people who aren’t afraid to take risks. It’s just so not me. Don’t get me wrong… I’m usually willing to give something new a try, but on my terms. I like a planned orderly existence in which I feel as though I have a modicum of control. But let’s be honest… where’s the fun in that? The unexpected is what keeps things exciting.  At times it may test my comfort zone and cause me to question my sanity, but I admit I have a soft spot for wacky, smart people who aren’t afraid to take a chance. And thankfully, I’m surrounded by a few.

One of my closest friends from college is a perfect example. She’s off the charts intelligent and has a few degrees to prove it, but she’s kind of… eccentric. She’s the original “nature” girl. Loves to camp, has traveled the world and for a self-proclaimed hippy has led a pretty cosmopolitan life.  Until I met her (almost thirty years ago, yikes!), I’d never been on a plane, slept in a tent or had a shot of tequila. True, it was college and I probably would have discovered a few of those things on my own, but I wonder if I would have developed a love of travel.

My first ever plane ride was from LA to Hawaii. I was twenty years old and scared shitless. Of course, I soon realized it wasn’t that bad, especially when I arrived five hours later in a magical, tropical land where everything smelled like flowers. From the minute that trip began, it was nonstop trip of firsts ranging from trying poi (a Hawaiian staple that looks like purple mush) to sleeping on the cold ground in a tent with a hole on top of a red ant colony.  I came home with a sunburn, bug bites and the intense desire to do it all over again.  Minus the ants.  Over the past couple of decades I’ve traveled quite a bit. The joy of discovery in a new place is a rush. Moreover, the exposure to other cultures and ways of thinking is priceless.  It’s an education all its own. Every time you leave your comfort zone, even if it’s by way of a train or a bus rather than a 747, you’re learning something new. There is no doubt that travel has been a major influence on my writing. Exploring a new world and being open to new experiences can change your life.

In Better Than Safe, Paul is a British ad exec who’s traveled extensively for his work and enjoyed it. However, he’s looking forward to spending time at home in DC and maybe even meeting someone nice.  Instead he meets Seth. Seth is an international fashion model, sometime guitarist slash aspiring artist. He’s beautiful but undeniably odd. One minute Paul could be convinced Seth is an immature, overgrown adolescent and the next, a genius. Either way, he’s exactly the type of man Paul swore off years ago. Crazy artist types are a bad bet for a man who values a measure of peace in his personal life. In spite of all the compelling reasons Paul can think of to steer clear of Seth, he can’t deny he is very attracted to Seth’s brand of chaos. He may be exactly the man to convince Paul some risks are better than being safe.

Better Than Safe is book 4 in the Better Than Stories series. These books are standalones and can be read in any order. Thank you so much for having me on your blog today!

Happy Reading! Lane Hayes xo

About Better Than Safe

25512977Paul Fallon is a fashion advertising guru. He’s a genius at dealing with difficult editors, art directors, and designers alike. He thrives on the chaotic atmosphere and constant challenges. But in his personal life, he’s hoping for peace and stability. Settling down with a nice doctor or lawyer sounds perfect. Anyone but an artist. He’s been there, done that, and he doesn’t want to relive the heartache.

Seth Landau is a model, occasional guitarist, and aspiring painter. He’s quirky, flighty, and wise beyond his years. Life has taught him some tough lessons, then given him opportunities he never dreamed of. He’s learned to appreciate the fragility of life and to express it in his work. Seth’s flare for the absurd combined with a supple mind and a beautiful body are too alluring for Paul to ignore. Against his best intentions, Paul is drawn to the younger man whose particular brand of crazy challenges Paul to accept that things aren’t always as they seem. Sometimes taking a chance is better than being safe.
