“And that’s okay.” Mason sat forward and clasped his hands on his desk. “So, tell me something, you helping Sawyer, is that to keep your mind off all this shit?”
Grant blew out a long, tired breath. “Partly.” He paused then added, “I need something to keep me busy that doesn’t involve going back to work and dealing with people’s judgment.” He shrugged. “And, okay, fine…maybe a tiny part of it is guilt, but you can’t tell Sawyer that. That stubborn jackass will spit nails. No way he’ll let me help him if he knows that.”
Mason snorted and raised a teasing brow. “Trust me. I’m used to dealing with stubborn jackasses.”
Grant narrowed his eyes. “Very funny.” He pulled out his phone and looked at the screen. “What time will you be home? I can order us a pizza or something.”
Mason didn’t even try to hide his surprise or attempt to act as if Grant calling it home didn’t stir something in him.
Grant furrowed his brows, like he was trying to figure out what the hell he’d said to get that reaction. A light dawned, and he waved a hand at Mason. “You know what I meant. It is your home, isn’t it?”
Well, when he put it that way… “A pizza sounds good. I’ll be home around eight. Got a lot of paperwork to catch up on.”
“All right. You good with me clearing some things out of that other room?”
“Yeah. Whatever you need to do.”
“Oh, and I Googled what he’ll need. To make things easier, you know? Ordered a handle for the shower, a raised toilet seat, and one of those long, grippy claw things. You know, like on the infomercial?”
Mason laughed. “Yeah, I know. Like I said, whatever you need to do.”
