Blurb: Milo has a pretty good life: nice house, decent job, plenty of time to devote to the movies and games he loves. He also has a hot neighbor, Lewis, who frequently comes by to drag Milo out of his house. If Milo wishes they were more than neighbors, well, he’s working on it.

Then Lewis asks Milo for advice on how to catch the notice of a geek—a man that is everything Milo is not, a man who turns his life into a living hell and makes it painfully clear that Lewis will never see him as anything but the nerd across the street.

Note: This story was initially published in Less Than Three’s That Famous Happy End anthology. It has been re-edited and given a new ending.

Milo might have a nice house and a decent job but he’s not having the best week. Then again, getting asked by your crush to help him woo a geek doesn’t really spell happy. Not to mention getting your nose broken by that geek is just topping on a horrible few days. But maybe with a little makeover, Milo’s crappy life might start looking up.

Oh, this story was so cute! I absolutely adored Milo. Life is definitely beating down on Milo and he’s a bit bitter and, well, miserable, but he still has a dry sense of humor that I found very funny. The poor guy, though, I felt so bad for him! All he wanted was just for Lewis to notice him but he thinks he’s too boring and ugly to ever get Lewis as anything but a friend. Lewis is the opposite of Milo in that he’s the jock type. I loved Lewis, too, although he’s not as developed as Milo is. He’s sweet and nice but he also has a sort of loneliness to him that broke my heart. I just absolutely loved them.

I really enjoyed this one but I did have one small niggle. I really wished that Lewis had noticed Milo at least a little bit before Milo got his ‘makeover’. Granted, all he did was get a haircut and start wearing colors but considering that it wasn’t much of a difference, I’m wondering why Lewis didn’t notice Milo before then as more than a friend. I just really wished the story had been longer so that we could have seen them together more and seen them outside of the ‘friend zone’ that they’ve been in for so long.

In the end, I still really liked the story. Milo has a quirky but dry sense of humor so there are a lot of laughs in this one. I loved Milo as a character and I loved that I was able to connect with him. Lewis is still a bit of mystery but that’s expected with short stories. If you’re looking for something short, cute and sure to make you laugh, definitely give this one a try!

Overall Impression: I really liked it!
