Sometimes Beauty Is A Curse: Why Aaron Seavers Would Rather Be a Wallflower

by Heidi Cullinan

On September 17th at The Novel Approach, I celebrated Giles Mulder as a non-hunky romantic lead. Now it’s time for Aaron Seavers to tell you why honestly, he’s a little jealous of his boyfriend’s quirky looks.

I never set out to write about looks in Fever Pitch—it somehow just happened, and it began when I found their stock photographs. I looked at Giles and knew all about how he was irritated at being judged a geek when he knew damn well he was sexy, and I looked at pretty-boy Aaron and knew he really didn’t understand what the fuss was about. In fact, the more I sat with Aaron, the more he had anxiety about how people perceived him.

Yes, he fit the profile of handsome guy, but the baggage that came with that freaked him out. He doesn’t have a ton of self-esteem, and he’s decidedly not suave about anything. Plus, like me, Aaron suffers from Chronic Resting Bitch Face, so people think he’s being aloof or arrogant when he’s mostly trying not to throw up or look stupid.

I decidedly don’t have the too pretty for you thing going on, and never have, but Aaron made a compelling argument for the trials that can come from everyone authoring your life for you just because they believe they can read it in your face. Giles got short-shifted, but Aaron was given the wrong script too. I think part of the reason they fit together so well is they each have what the other envied. Aaron wanted a good family and anonymity, no more pressure to be perfect, and Giles wanted a spotlight. They don’t exactly pull a Freaky Friday on each other, but I like to think they give each other backup to claim the space they truly want.

Writing this pair really made me examine what we decide, as society, people should have based on how they look. Even when picking stock photos for collages or book covers, pretty gets first pick. Our magazines and movies are populated exclusively by pretty people. Yet if we look around our everyday lives, there are very few of these perfectly sculpted people around. Even those poster-people are often horribly photo-shopped, sometimes even in their casual Instagram pictures.

How pretty you are shouldn’t be a prerequisite for getting a happily ever after. And Aaron Seavers would like to add, it doesn’t mean you’re put together and interested in being plastered on the cover of anything, either.

Giles says he’s more than willing to do that in Aaron’s stead.

Follow the rest of the blog tour for more guest posts, excerpts, and chances to win a copy of the novel.

About Fever Pitch

Fever Pitch (Love Lessons, #2)Sometimes you have to play love by ear.

Aaron Seavers is a pathetic mess, and he knows it. He lives in terror of incurring his father’s wrath and disappointing his mother, and he can’t stop dithering about where to go to college—with fall term only weeks away. Ditched by a friend at a miserable summer farewell party, all he can do is get drunk in the laundry room and regret he was ever born. Until a geeky-cute classmate lifts his spirits, leaving him confident of two things: his sexual orientation, and where he’s headed to school.

Giles Mulder can’t wait to get the hell out of Oak Grove, Minnesota, and off to college, where he plans to play his violin and figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. But when Aaron appears on campus, memories of hometown hazing threaten what he’d hoped would be his haven. As the semester wears on, their attraction crescendos from double-cautious to a rich, swelling chord. But if more than one set of controlling parents have their way, the music of their love could come to a shattering end.

Warning: Contains showmances, bad parenting, Walter Lucas, and a cappella.

Honorary Blogger Lillian McKinnon: Thoughts on Writing

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Thoughts on Writing

by Lillian McKinnon

I have always enjoyed using my imagination, whether is was playing with my imaginary dragon that lived outside on the flat roof by my window as a small child, recreating the sight of a mud puddle using fingerpaints, creating original graphic art and animating it, or making up my own stories. I got to the age where I had to start thinking about what I wanted to do as a career, and taking the right courses for it. This led me into writing down my stories for a school project, and that project became Frames.

I knew that out there, there were youths close to my age, trying to figure out who they are, and my story centered around a group of young people who were doing just that. Everyone has things about themselves they have to figure out, whether it’s discovering their own personal sense of style, tastes in music, or coming to grips with their own sexuality. Relationships change as people mature, and crushes and dating become a big deal with people judging you on your hairstyle and clothes, but who you date. In the general population, the majority of people are straight and make the assumption that unless someone looks obviously gay (and whatever stereotype their brain thinks this must look like) that everybody else is also straight. I guess this is where the coming out from, having to announce that, “guess what, I’m gay!”

Sometimes you’re not just coming out to others, sometimes you come out to yourself. Sexuality is a fluid thing and the LGBT spectrum has many shades within its rainbow. I wanted to bring attention to this fact, and so Laura discovered something about herself that I had always known about myself. I hope that people who read my book will like my story and be sympathetic to the journey Laura, Aeric, and their friends make as they journey towards adulthood. I also hope that adult readers will keep in mind that this story was written for my peers, and will look on it as it was meant. Its a chronicle of today’s youth and our inner journey to make sense of growing up, told from my perspective as an LGBT youth.

About A Life in Frames

A Life in Frames (Frames #1)Bike rides, days at the pool, karate class…the more some things stay the same, the more they also change. Now, there’s boys. My best friend Amy pointed out that everyone but us has a boyfriend and, sure enough, even my awkward older brother has someone he’s crushing on. There is suddenly more to going to the pool, to dances and parties, and even just hanging out. We try to impress each other and maybe find our match. I capture all our moments with my camera, always observing and documenting it all for posterity. Will Amy find some fashion sense? Will I find someone who will want to be mine? And my brother, Aeric, who just came out as gay, will he be okay? Life suddenly seems so complicated. But changes, well, some of them aren’t so bad.

A Life In Frames is coming later in October 2014!

About Lillian McKinnon

LillianMcKinnonhardatworkLillian McKinnon is the pen name for a rather sassy 13 year old home educated girl who lives and plays in the Northwest region of England. She doesn’t like being told she can’t do things because she’s a kid, and woe betide you if it’s because she’s a girl. She’s active in Scouts and is avid about karate. She also enjoys long bike rides, photography, kayaking, abseiling, canoeing, swimming, and  is somewhat of an artist. She probably reads far too much, with bookcases full of novels and manga, a Kindle with an ever growing library, and online serials she avidly follows. She also has a fondness for vintage American sitcoms and modern sci fi and fantasy TV shows. When not reading, doing her educational assignments, writing, or indulging in her other hobbies, she spend time gaming with her younger brother, as long as he’s not annoyed her too much that day. Skill she would most like to learn next: surfing.

Honorary Blogger Jessie G.: Power Dynamics – Excerpt + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Power Dynamics

by Jessie G.

In my first book, Past Hurts, after being physically hurt Davin works hard to make himself physically strong. It’s a defense mechanism that I think people can relate to, or at least I hope they can. That physical strength doesn’t change the fact that Alaric is the dominant one in their relationship. Instead it highlights how very much of a choice submission is. A willing gift, if you will. At any time Davin could have overpowered Alaric and chose not to. His need to have Alaric be in control of their lives, to trust Alaric that deeply, only made his physical appearance that much hotter. In my opinion anyway.

In this latest release, For A Reason, there isn’t a defined power dynamic and any hint of BDSM is more of a game than anything else. I gave Bull all the physical power, but made sure he knew that Red’s strengths were paramount to their growth as a couple. Even when Red was drawing from Bull’s physical strength, he had to be strong enough to trust that Bull would provide what he needed. Their opposing strengths fed each other, gave each other a balance they didn’t have apart and making them equal while exchanging power in a total different way.

I tend to draw MC’s together that are both physically and mentally opposite. Bigger men with smaller men, dominant men with submissive men, and I think it’s hot to mix those traits up, like in the case of Alaric and Davin. It’s a combination that just does it for me because the contradictions compliment each other. In the right context I think it’s a super hot visual, if the age gap is appropriate and the size difference isn’t ridiculous. Yeah, my kinks have conditions and limitations, just like everyone else.

I’m a firm believer that all relationships have some power dynamic, even if the power changes hands regularly. If not, fights would never be resolved, decisions never made. One partner takes the lead, the other allows it, and next time the roles may be reversed. Again, just my opinion on the subject, but you’ll find it an ongoing thread in my writing because it interests me. I believed my approach to the topic was too light to be called BDSM, but I did have one reviewer of Past Hurts complain that I should have prefaced my blurb with a warning.

Future books in the series, which is already drafted out to be seven books, will have that warning. They will delve deeper into power dynamics and the healing two people can find when they trust each other that much. Some will be subtle, some not so much, because it interests me and I can only hope it interests you.

As a throw away, Ian Jones is used to being alternately overlooked or ridiculed but hasn’t given up on the idea that with just one chance he could turn it all around. Rescued by the one person who neither overlooks nor ridicules him, he longs to be seen as more than just a man in need.

Ian isn’t pining for the family he’s never known but when they descend, unwanted and uninvited, Bull must prove that he’s the man who will protect Ian’s long neglected heart by sharing the demons that torment his wounded soul.

An Excerpt from For a Reason

Ian trembled and tightened his arms. “All your men have had enough trouble in their lives and they’re trying to have a fresh start. It kills me to think I’m causing more trouble for you and them.”

“Our men,” Bull corrected softly, “our family. If this is about you, we’ll deal with it. Next time it could be about someone else and we’ll still deal with it. We’re a dysfunctional bunch, Red, it happens more often than not.”

Ian pulled back a little. “Our family?”

“We’re not exactly the Brady Bunch,” he teased softly, “but you’ll never find a more loyal group of men. I know it’s overwhelming and probably not what you envisioned, but…” Ian kissed him hard, cutting off the words. “It’s amazing.”

Until that moment he hadn’t realized that he’d been waiting for Ian to accept them all. The relief was nearly overwhelming. “Thank you.”

“For what?”

“Accepting us.” It was really that simple and complicated. Not many men would.

About Jessie G.

FAR Jessie G Bio PhotoBefore I am a writer, I am a voracious reader who panics when there are less than fifty books on her wish list. That wasn’t always the case and shamefully I must admit there was a time early in life that I hated to read. After throwing every possible age appropriate book my way a relative snuck me my first romance and I have been hooked ever since.

My love of reading morphed into a desire to write and I still have old notebooks and floppy disks full of ideas and partially written plots. While earning my computer degree, and starting on my career and family, I didn’t write a single word. It wasn’t until I was buying school supplies for my oldest son that the itch came back. Oddly, I can sniff out the stationary aisle in any store and have been known to skip an item on the grocery list in favor of a shiny new notebook.

With the advent of social media I filled up my feeds with my favorite authors hoping to glean some words of wisdom as I pounded out half formed ideas with alarming regularity. Two

repetitive themes emerged: To be a great writer you must read a lot and your butt must be in the chair every day like it’s a job. Even if you write dribble, you’re writing. The more you write, the easier it will be to write and the better you will get at writing.

Every day I took the time to write dribble, every day I told myself I was a writer, and on January 28, 2014 I woke up in the middle of the night with Past Hurts pounding in my head. Within two months, I also had the foundation for Books 2 and 3 and the Sizzling Miami Series was born.

When I’m not reading or writing, I own a successful web design business. My husband and I live in Central Florida and we’re enjoying life as parents of adults. Whenever possible we hit the road on the motorcycle and dare anyone to find us.

GRL Blog Tour: Taylor V. Donovan – GayRomLit 4.0 + Giveaway!

GRL 2014 Blog Tour Banner

GayRomLit 4.0

by Taylor V. Donovan

Hello, everyone! The countdown for GRL 2014 has begun, and I’m here to talk with all of you about it. I’ve got to be honest, though. I don’t have any advice on how to meet people and fight the post-con crud. I’m not an introvert. I love hugs. If I see you around, I’ll talk to you, and I hope you do the same. I’m not equipped to tell anyone how to deal if you find yourself in need of space. There are some awesome posts some of my fellow authors have written about that, so, if you need help, I suggest you read those. They’ll be a huge help. In the meantime, I’m just going to share what GRL means for me. Thanks to The Blogger Girls for hosting me. ☺

So, I wasn’t a published author when I attended the first GRL in New Orleans. I joined the Gay Romance community in April 2011, submitted Six Degrees of Lust to a publisher in May, and went back to my regularly scheduled program. I worked. I took care of my kids. I thought a lot about whether I wanted to keep writing beyond the completion of my serial, “By Degrees,” provided I got a contract for it. I also read an unbelievable amount of M/M romance novels.

I remember I used to feel… mesmerized… totally in awe every time I had an online conversation with one of my favorite authors. They were my rock stars. I thought I wanted to be like some of them when I grew up. Then there were the readers. I was thrilled to be able to talk to other readers that are just like me—gay romance nuts—and discuss stories and characters to death.

Not many knew I was a new author back then. At some point, in between the EDJ and fangirling, I decided to write something else. Heatstroke, a little free story I wrote just for fun (and to prove to myself I could write something different from “By Degrees”) and that was the only title under my belt when October 2011 came around. I went to GRL as a reader that first time, and, let me tell you, I had the time of my life. First of all, it was held in New Orleans, which is one of my favorite cities in the world, and authors were there, you guys. In Person!! It was heaven. ☺ I was all over the swag. I collected autographs. I met these two super cool ladies, The Blogger Girls’ very own Nikyta and Heather, in person for the first time, and I met L.C. Chase, author, cover artist, and lifelong friend. I partied a lot that year. I got sick, but I had fun. Three years later, things haven’t changed that much.

I’ve been attending GRL as an author instead of as a reader since 2012. I show up to my events and the book signing. I talk to my readers and make the rounds. But I still look forward to collecting swag and autographs. I still spend the majority of my time hanging out with my friends and making new ones. And yes, I still manage to get seriously sick every time. But not even the kidney stones I got last year have dwindled my enthusiasm for this event.

GRL is the one time a year when I get to see online friends and friends who have transcended social media. It’s the time I get to hear them laugh instead of reading their “LOLs.” It’s the one time a year when I get to hug them tightly, and I just love having that opportunity.

GRL is a big celebration for the Gay Romance community. It brings readers and authors to one place. It allows me to create memories with awesome peeps, and it’s the culmination of ten super fun months leading up to it. You see, some friends and yours truly have this little group in Whatsapp for all things GRL. Preparations for it begin the day we register to attend, and I love that none of them are authors. Well, one is, but her identity is super secret. The rest are readers and bloggers, and I’m just one of them. I love that they aren’t freaking out over the same stuff I do (i.e. swag, books, people showing up to my Q&A… or not.☺) We talk about flights, clothes, arrivals, clothes, non-GRL things we’d like to do, clothes, makeup, clothes, hair, clothes, shuttle services, clothes, cabs v. limousines, clothes… and sometimes we talk about vibrators, porn, and shoes. *g* As amazing as GRL is, I have to admit this little group makes it a hundred times better for me. They keep me pumped. They keep me entertained. This experience wouldn’t be anywhere near as fabulous if it weren’t for them, so, much love to all of you, my lovelies. You all know who you are. Xoxo

I don’t know if all of you reading this post will be at GRL this year. If you’ll be there, please come by and say Hello. I’ll have goodies… not that I’m bribing you or anything. 😉 For those of you who couldn’t go, I hope to meet you at some other point, but, more importantly, I hope you get to experience GRL and the greatness that is hanging out with our fellow readers.

Love you all!

About Heavy Hitters

Heavy Hitters (Caribbean Tales, #1)His toughest opponent is himself.

World Boxing Champion Santino Malavé has been fighting since he was a kid. Poverty, domestic violence, and emotional abuse were early contenders. Guilt and self-loathing were beaten into him by his homophobic dad at an impressionable age and now machismo, an integral part of the Latino culture, rules his life. In the ring he’s undefeated. Outside the ropes life constantly hits him below the belt. It takes a sucker punch from his best friend to finally knock the denial out of him and force him to face his true nature like a real man.

A natural born entertainer, Luca Betancur has grown up laughing, performing, and celebrating life among his tight-knit family under the scorching Puerto Rican sun. He has also dedicated years to deny his sexuality, study what the Bible really says, and pursue fame. Singing the wrong note on stage is not a mistake the multi-platinum award-winning singer would ever allow. Falling in love with a man is not a transgression his devout family would ever accept. The ties that bind him are strong, but the pull toward his childhood best friend may just be enough to tear it all to shreds.

Anger, mistakes, bigotry, and the need to conform put up a good fight. Can they break down the walls erected by Catholic teachings and a chauvinistic society, or will their relationship lose by technical knockout?

Heavy Hitters is coming soon in late-October!

Honorary Blogger Rick R. Reed: Letting Go + Excerpt & Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

Letting Go

by Rick R. Reed

It takes two to tango. And it takes at least two to make a book. Just like a play needs an audience to fully come alive, a book needs a reader for precisely the same reason.

One thing I have to constantly remind myself as a writer is that, once I have written the words, ‘the end’ to a story is that I must let go. As much as I labored over the book, dreamed about it, had conversations with myself about it, agonized over word choice, character hair color, continuity, repetitive words and phrasing, the time comes when the book meets the public which signals that it’s time for me to step aside.

A book is a conspiracy between a reader and a writer. The reader has to bring it to life through his or her imagination. The wonderful thing about that whole process is that my story can become so many different stories when filtered through each reader’s unique frame of reference. I have no doubt that no matter the care I take in describing characters and setting, each reader sees them differently because each of them come to the table with different experiences, biases, and memories. All of those things have a bearing on the triggers my words pull in a reader’s mind.

It’s really quite a lovely process when you think about it. And maybe the readers out there reading this blog never really considered the vital work they play in every book’s success or failure. Writers provide a roadmap, signposts, but it’s really up to the reader to run with it, to make of it something real, a mind movie for one.

What’s my point? I guess it’s to share with you a little of what motivates me as a writer and what, for me is both a blessing and a curse. See, when I am working on a book, which is almost always, I am alone with those characters, immersed in their little world, consumed by their passions, their fears, their desires, their comedies of errors. I have never been one for sharing much of my unfinished work with anyone else. That would somehow be wrong, at least for me. In order to create, I need to be able to slip into a world inhabited only by my characters and me. It’s always a bittersweet moment when I write the words, ‘the end’ and know I am moving on. Sure, there will be editing, the thrill of seeing the cover design, the agony of trying to help craft the blurb, but once you type ‘the end’ it means just that. You’re giving your characters and their world away.

I think it’s very difficult for some writers to realize that once they’ve ‘given birth’ to a book that it really no longer belongs to them. It belongs to the readers, the reviewers, the world. If you create with publishing in mind, it’s a harsh reality to accept—your book no longer belongs to you alone, but it’s gone off into the world, much like a child finally moving out of the house. Once you let go, you also must let go of trying to control what happens (same for books, same for kids).

And that’s hard. You hate to see your book suffer at the hands of people who don’t understand it, you celebrate it when someone ‘gets’ what you were trying to say.

But you must let go. The book is a piece of the world now and takes on a life of its own. Remember what I said earlier? A book is a conspiracy between a writer and a reader and the reader, each in his or her own way, makes the story his or her own.

I guess what prompted all this was a discussion recently at one of my publishers’ forums wherein authors were discussing, once again, how to respond to negative reviews and downright nasty ones, and the prevailing wisdom, at least to my mind, was with silence. I agree.

It’s harsh but true: writers must let go. Your stories are no longer your stories. If you’re very, very lucky, they are many people’s. Take comfort in that.

About Husband Hunters

1You never know where the love of your life might turn up.

When Matt Connelly suggests to his best buddy Cody Mook that they head to downtown Seattle to audition for the gay reality TV show Husband Hunters, both agree the experience might be a lark and a chance to grab their fifteen minutes of fame. What they don’t know is that the show, modeled after HGTV’s House Hunters, will open doors of longing neither expected. For Matt, the secret love he has long harbored for Cody might be thrust into the spotlight. Cody might realize his search for his perfect-forever-man extends no farther than the man who’s always been at his side.

Husband Hunters promises laughter, tears, and, just maybe, a happy ever after. Will Cody and Matt’s story be one of best-friends-to-lovers—or an outright disaster?

Available at: Dreamspinner Press, Amazon and Barnes & Noble

An Excerpt from Husband Hunters

“You ever heard of a TV show called Husband Hunters?” Matt asked.

Cody let a short bark of a laugh escape. “Dude. It’s House Hunters. On HGTV, like, a thousand times a day.”

“No, no. There’s really a show called Husband Hunters. It’s on the gay channel. Haven’t you even heard of it? It’s the new gay show, even more popular than Drag Race. Where have you been?”

“Husband hunting?” Cody asked.

“Exactly. And how’s that working out for you?”

Cody paced his studio apartment and thought his friend Matt wasn’t as clueless as he had assumed about Cody’s romantic situation. “So far, my wish to be desired by many, won by few has gotten twisted around so it’s ass backwards.”

Matt obviously had to think about that for a moment. When he put it all together, he laughed. Not for the first time Cody thought of how his friend’s laughter too strongly resembled a donkey’s bray.

“Anyway,” Matt went on. “This show is kind of like your House Hunters in that it showcases someone looking for something and gives us three scenarios to watch and help them decide. Except instead of houses, it’s husbands!” Matt shrieked this last with something like delight—or lunacy.

“You’re kidding.” Cody rolled his eyes. He walked over to his kitchenette and began pulling out the makings for his breakfast: a couple of eggs, a loaf of Dave’s Spelt bread. “Is there a reason you brought this up? I can’t imagine anything more horrible. They actually get people to go on this show?” Cody sighed. “Whatever happened to romance?”

“The Internet,” Matt replied without missing a beat. “It’s a new day, as Miss Nina Simone once sang. Men get their manmeat digitally now. Soon Amazon will have drones delivering studs to your front door.”

“Whatever.” Cody was getting tired of the conversation. “You want to go out tonight or what?”

“Cody!” Matt complained. “You didn’t let me tell you the best part! Husband Hunters is right here in Seattle… today! They’re doing a talent search for some Pacific Northwest episodes.”

“And this affects me how?” Cody filled a pan with water, threw in some white vinegar and a little kosher salt, and set it on the stove to come to a simmer for his poached eggs.

“We can try out. Are you dense?” Matt went on, a little breathless with excitement. “What with the snow, there won’t even be as much competition. With your hotness and my wit, we’ll both be shoo-ins.”

Cody laughed. “You’re kidding me, right? What about the school?”

“You think they’d mind? Have you noticed that our principal is a legally wed leather daddy?”

Cody chuckled. “Only in Seattle….” He set two pieces of bread in the toaster and checked the water again for signs of boiling. A watched pot…. “You feel free to trot on down to the auditions, but this is nothing I want any part in. It’s gross.” Cody scratched the top of his head. “What do you have to do to audition, anyway? Kiss guys?”

Matt laughed. “One can hope. Come on, Cody. It’ll be fun. And you never know. It could change your life.”

“So could a car accident.”

Matt blew out a big sigh. “Don’t be a spoilsport. You know you can’t resist my charms. The casting call is being held at the Westin downtown. What time should I pick you up? My four-wheel drive will plow right through this shit.”

“I’m not going. It’s undignified.” Cody cracked the two eggs into separate ramekins.

“Dignity is overrated. What time should I pick you up?” Matt repeated.

“Didn’t you hear me? I’m not doing it!” Cody pushed the bread down in the toaster.

“Look. You may not think I’ve noticed, but I know you want to find that special someone, that soul mate character. I’ve seen how you moon over Pete at school.”

Pete was a biology teacher who bore an amazing resemblance to Colin Farrell. He had just married his sweetheart of eleven years, Johan. The couple was seldom apart. It was sickening. Except it wasn’t. It was sweet and gave Cody a glimmer of hope that somehow, somewhere, someday there was a man out there for him. Cody’s heart gave a little lurch. He knew it was true. He wanted what Pete and Johan had.

Matt went on, “So why not just try this? The truth is neither of us will probably make the cut. But it’ll be fun to go to the tryouts, see who else turns up. And who knows? The man of your dreams may be twitchin’ down at the Westin, looking for the same thing you are.”

Cody had to begrudgingly admit Matt had a point. “Okay,” he said, defeated. “But after? We go to Terra Plata for appetizers and lots of Bloody Marys. And you’re buying.”

“Deal. If it’ll get you there.”

“Is that it, then?”

“Yeah, yeah. I’ll pick you up at one. The casting call starts at two.”

“Okay, good-bye. My water’s boiling.”

“Your water broke?”

“Oh, shut up!” Cody was about to hang up when Matt shouted into the phone.

Another Place in Time by Various Authors Blog Tour: Promo + Giveaway!

Heahter C:  It’s here.  It’s finally here!!  This past May at the Romantic Times Convention in New Orleans, I was hanging out with Susan from Boys in our Books and she was telling me all about this project she was putting together for charity.  She asked if I would help promote it here at TBG.  The project?  An all M/M historical romance anthology from a handful of my favorite authors!  Ack!!  Imagine how excited I was when historical romance is almost the only thing I read these days!  I’m kinda disappointed in myself that I didn’t have the time read and review by today (release day).  But I’ve read and loved all of these authors so that is a pretty certain indication about how great this collection will be.  Go ahead…sample these awesome authors and help raise money for AllOut.org.  Have you gotten our copy yet?

About Another Place in Time

Included in this anthology:

“Office Romance” by Tamara Allen

The post-war economy is at a standstill, much like Foster Wetherly’s life until he’s forced to do battle with irritatingly confident—and competent—fellow ex-doughboy Casey Gladwin for a position in their shrinking department at Manhattan Security Mutual.

“Introducing Mr. Winterbourne” by Joanna Chambers

Lysander Winterbourne appears to lead a charmed life. Handsome, amiable, and a renowned sportsman, he is the darling of London society. As far as Adam Freeman is concerned though, Lysander is just another spoiled aristocrat.

A wealthy mill owner, Adam has no time for the frivolous world of the ton, but when his younger brother becomes engaged to Althea Winterbourne, he reluctantly agrees to be introduced to society–with the Winterbourne clan’s golden boy as his guide.

Resigning himself to a few days of boredom, Adam is surprised to learn that there is much more to Lysander than his perfect surface. But will Adam have the courage to introduce Lysander Winterbourne to his own secret self?

Two Regency bucks. One game of cards. Everything to play for.

“Unfair in Love and War” by Kaje Harper

Many men lost brothers overseas in the summer of 1944. Warren Burch was one of them. For months he still clung to his big city life in Philadelphia, but finally he’s made the difficult choice to return to his home town. Warren’s polio-stricken leg won’t let him serve, so the least he can do is be there for his mother, when brother Charlie never again will. Arriving home means a whole new life, constrained by the rhythms and prejudices of a small town. Fortunately, it’s made more interesting by the mysterious and attractive young man next door.

“Carousel” by Jordan L. Hawk

When a child goes missing, is it a simple case of a young runaway, or are more sinister forces at work?

“Carousel” is part of the Whyborne & Griffin series and takes place between the events of Stormhaven and Necropolis. It can be read as a standalone.

“Deliverance” by Aleksandr Voinov

About Sweetwater

Sweetwater_400x600Wyoming Territory, 1870.

Elijah Carter is afflicted. Most of the townsfolk of South Pass City treat him as a simpleton because he’s deaf, but that’s not what shames him the most. Something in Elijah runs contrary to nature and to God. Something that Elijah desperately tries to keep hidden.

Harlan Crane, owner of the Empire saloon, knows Elijah for what he is—and for all the ungodly things he wants. And Crane isn’t the only one. Grady Mullins desires Elijah too, but unlike Crane, he refuses to push or mistreat the young man.

When violence shatters Elijah’s world, he is caught between two very different men and two devastating urges: revenge and despair. In a boomtown teetering on the edge of a bust, Elijah must face what it means to be a man in control of his own destiny, and choose a course that might end his life . . . or truly begin it for the very first time.

About the Author

Lisa Henry lives in tropical North Queensland, Australia. She doesn’t know why, because she hates the heat, but suspects she’s too lazy to move. She spends half her time slaving away as a government minion, and the other half plotting her escape.

She attended university at sixteen, not because she was a child prodigy or anything, but because of a mix-up between international school systems early in life. She studied History and English, neither of them very thoroughly.

She shares her house with too many cats, a dog, a green tree frog that swims in the toilet, and as many possums as can break in every night. This is not how she imagined life as a grown-up.

You can visit Lisa her website, at Goodreads, or on Facebook or Twitter.

Honorary Blogger A.E. Via: A Beautiful Blue Moon + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

A Beautiful Blue Moon

by A.E. Via

Thank you so much for showing up today to chat about Blue Moon II: This is Reality.

This is the continuing story of Pierce aka Backhander and ALL of the Beastmasters, including the readers favorite, the very sexy mysterious, Hawk. Who is – if you couldn’t tell – gracing the cover for me. We pick up right where we left off in Blue Moon, Too Good To Be True. Backhander is officially out of retirement and is heading up another task force to take down some of the country’s slipperiest criminals and he’s doing it with one helluva team backing him up. Yes. The Beastmasters.

This story is action-packed. I’m not raining down sunshine or buttering you up in this one. I get right down to the good shit. The Beastmasters are raw and dirty, barreling over all SOBs that get in their way. The introduction of my assassins Omega and Alpha will have your mouths hanging open. But I put them in here instead of giving them their own novel, because the Beastmasters needed some real contenders. Also, those two delicious men, clocked in black from head to toe are especially for my male readers. *winking mischievously*

I won’t rewrite the blurb here, but I will tell you that you will have all your questions answered in the next and final installment of Blue Moon.

Is Hawk going to get Pierce?

Is this Shot and Fox’s story too?

Are the Beastmasters going to go out in a blaze of glory?

Will one of the Beastmaster’s end up with one of the Assassins?

Will Angel, Max, Ryker and Bass make a cameo?

You won’t be disappointed with the answers to those questions!

But there is one question I will answer now. ‘Is the sex just as good in Blue Moon II as it is in the first book?’

Answer: Hell no. IT’S BETTER!

I hope you enjoy it! Don’t forget to drop me a line after you read it.

About Blue Moon II: This is Reality

BLUEMOON2 MASTERCOPYThe Story of: HAWK, PIERCE, SHOT & FOX WITH THE BEASTMASTERS

Pierce aka Strategic Intelligence Specialist, Backhander is back to flush out some of the DEA’s most notorious criminals, and he has one helluva’ team backing him up. The country’s most decorated Navy Seals…the Beastmasters.

Pierce is more than capable of doing his job, but he has one insanely hot distraction that continuously causes him to second guess his hidden orientation–Dane Aramis, call-sign, Hawk. Hawk can see what most people can’t, and whether his sexy Pierce wants to admit it or not, he can see the brilliant man’s desire runs deep for him. Hawk is not the type of Seal to lose his man. Pierce will be his.

However, when Pierce and the Beastmasters are on their final assignment, the last person they expect to encounter with the
opposition is rogue assassin… Omega. The man is unstoppable, and when he comes too close to what Hawk holds dear, the Beastmasters call on the only man that can control the lethal assassin. Omega’s faster more skilled brother, Alpha.

Bringing Alpha – the deadliest man in the world that has no allegiances and no alliances back into society may be disastrous for everyone involved. But, Hawk is willing to take that risk to keep Pierce safe.

Character Interview with Javi & Taz from Creature Feature 2 by Poppy Dennison & Rhys Ford + Giveaway!

Blogger_Character_Interview copy

Julian Childes here with Hunter’s Quarterly. We’re honored today to interview two extraordinary hunters who have experienced vampyres first hand! Let’s find out more about how these hunter’s work:

Julian: Taz and Javi, glad to see you lived to tell the tale of the vampyre attack on Detroit. Can you tell us what is the most effective weapon against these legendary creatures?

Javi: The most effective weapon? A blood mage. Seriously. Screw the shotgun and crossbows, a blood mage who’s willing to sling up a few rounds of magic. ‘Course most of them are evil so a good one is about as rare as a vampyre but if you can’t have one of those, I’d say a machete.

Taz: Definitely a machete. Gotta sever the sons of bitches spinal cord to kill ‘em. Also, I’d highly recommend some of that Vick’s stuff to rub under your nose. You really can’t understand the stench until you’re up close and personal with one of these things.

Javi: God, the splatter. Shit gets on your skin and that’s all she wrote. Right?

Julian: How did you get into hunting? What led you down that very dangerous path?

Taz: It’s the family business. And if you make one joke about those brothers on TV I will do some damage. Seriously, if I had to spend all my time in the same car with my brother, I’d probably hurt him. Almost all of us are hunters, and my sister can kick anybody’s ass east of the Mississippi. Although, I do have a cousin who’s an accountant. We’re still trying to figure out how that happened.

Javi: Shit, it’s a family business too. Pretty much cut my teeth on hunting knives. Most of us can kick ass. Yeah, we’ve got a damn librarian in our family. No idea what what happened to her. Probably dropped on her head or something.

Julian: As we all know, vampyres are extremely rare and most of us won’t see one in our lifetime. Werewolves on the other hand. Pestilence. What do you find is the most effective tool against werewolves?

Javi: Werewolves? Lighter fluid, hairspray and a Zippo. Silver knives are good but they don’t hold an edge. I also don’t know if it does any good to kill them because they’re like those Bozo clown things you hit and get back up. You know, those smelly vinyl things with weights on the bottom.

Taz: Hey Javi, did he really just say pestilence? Why are we doing this again? I don’t know anybody who actually reads Hunter’s Quarterly. You think Ciarnan and Darren will meet us at the Checkerboard for pancakes?

Javi: Mmmmm pancakes. Ciarnan makes this french toast thing with cream cheese and some fruity stuff. Pancakes sound great. We definitely should do some food thing soon. I’ve got to get him out of the house and meet some actual people. Shaddock does not count as people.

Julian: If you had to choose the most difficult beast to fight, what would you choose?

Javi: A human. When it’s all said and done. I think a human is the most difficult beast to fight. Sometimes I answer a call and there’s a person on the other end of the horror. Other than that, there is some crazy ass shit in the swamps of Florida. I don’t know if they’ve got were-crocs down there or something but I’ve chased down some scaly white thing with teeth while slogging through the mud and insects. Wily shit. Never caught up with it. Ate its way through a chicken ranch my aunt owns.

Taz: No kidding? Were-crocs. Shit. Remind me to tell Darren we’re never vacationing in Florida. I don’t trust my luck. Gotta tell you though, these vamps? Scary fuckers. I didn’t think something like that was real until I saw it with my own two eyes. You hear all these legends and hell, most of it is complete bullshit. Until it’s not. Yeah, I won’t be forgetting these vamps for a long time.

About Creature Feature 2

1Two Men. One Apocalypse.

Rise of the Revenants by Poppy Dennison
Vampyres are on the loose in Detroit, and novice hunter Taz Cohen is on the job. The mission seems simple: stop the vamps. But Taz knows nothing about the mythical creatures, so he’s in for the fight of his life. Then he meets insanely attractive construction worker Darren Foster, who jumps into the battle with both feet. Sparks and bullets fly as they struggle against the vampyre horde and their attraction to each other. Avoiding gruesome death from the undead might be easier than shielding their hearts from each other.

Legacy of Blood and Death by Rhys Ford
For Javi Navarro, Detroit will become another blood-splattered city in his rearview mirror after he puts its dead back into the ground. Expecting an easy hunting job, Javi instead finds a kiss of ancient vampyres on the hunt for a descendent of their long-dead creator.

Reclusive Ciarnan Mac Gerailt abandoned his family legacy of blood and death magic after it nearly destroyed him. Unfortunately, the Motor City can only be saved if Ciarnan resumes his dark arts and joins forces with Javi Navarro, the hunter who brought the vampyre apocalypse—and hope for the future—straight to Ciarnan’s front door.
