Release Blitz: Won’t Feel A Thing by CF White + Excerpt & Giveaway!

Won’t Feel A Thing by CF White

It takes more than a doctor to mend a broken heart.

Ollie Warne is fresh out of nursing school and working his dream job as a pediatric cardiology nurse at St. Cross Children’s Hospital. Wanting to start the year fresh from personal heartache and his track record of falling for the wrong man, Ollie’s New Year’s resolution is to rid himself of emotional baggage and live a life of carefree liaisons.

But before the resolution can even begin, Ollie is called to care for eight-year-old Daisy Monroe, who’s struggling after heart surgery. Her father, Jacob Monroe, never leaves her side, apart from the times her mother comes to visit.

The tempestuous and somewhat estranged relationship of her parents is cause for concern enough, but the father’s brooding nature has Ollie investing far more time than usual in his Room One patient. Striking up a friendship of sneaking takeaways into the ward, card playing until dawn and the occasional breaking up of domestic fights, Ollie finds himself drawn to Jacob and becomes a friendly ear for the man who’s harboring more guilt and past demons than even Ollie, which is saying something.

The growing attraction makes it hard for Ollie to keep his distance, though he has to—not only do the ethics of his profession demand it, but Ollie is still somewhat involved with another man. One who has a huge stake in Ollie’s life, both personal and professional.

Ollie is risking more than just his job by getting involved with a patient’s father—much more even than the success of his New Year’s resolution, something that was supposed to ensure that, this time, he won’t feel a thing.

Finding My Way Home by Kendel Duncan: Exclusive Excerpt!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from Finding My Way Home

by Kendel Duncan

Sebastian’s eyes opened.  For a few seconds he watched the dust dancing on the sunlight streaming through the edges of the window blinds.  This had always been his favorite time of the day, mornings when the sun was just rising and the rest of the world was quietly waking up.

And it was the only time that he could pretend that he wasn’t going to feel disappointment or sadness.  A yearning or craving to have someone, to have Ten in his bed next to him, holding him, keeping him safe, warm…..loved.

He took a deep breath both to brace himself for that disappointment and to judge the level of pain he felt in his ribcage.  He was pleased to find that his inhale only caused a slight discomfort, nothing like what he’d been feeling the past few days.  And when he turned his head, his heart soared when he saw the man lying next to him.  He was just about to reach out to slide his fingers through Ten’s silky hair when he heard the sniffle, followed closely by another.

He spoke at the same time that he lightly touched Ten’s shoulder, “Talk to me?”

Ten jerked slightly as he tensed up and for a few agonizing seconds, Bas thought they were right back where they started – with a closed off, cold Tenley pushing him away and shutting him out.

But then Ten did finally speak and what he said had Bas fighting his own tears.

“He said goodbye to me,” Ten whispered.

Bas gently rolled to his side and pressed the front of his body against Ten’s back, holding him as tightly as his tender rib cage would allow.  “In a dream?”

Ten wiped his eyes as he nodded, “Last night.  He said that he could move on now because he knew I was happy again.  He said it was time for me to let him go,” he whimpered as he rolled to his back to look at Bas, “I, I, I…..fuck,” he mumbled as fresh tears filled his eyes.

“What, babe?  Tell me,” Bas whispered as he cupped Ten’s cheek.

“I don’t know if I’m ready to let him go, Bas.  I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready.”

“So?  Don’t.”

“But….”

“Babe,” Bas said as he placed his hand on Ten’s chest, “This heart of yours that you’ve kept locked down since Sawyer died?  It’s resilient and I’m confident that it’s big enough to hold both him and me safe within its borders.”

Ten gripped Bas’ hand tight, “Do you want to know what scares me the most?”

“What?”

“That I’ll push you away again.  I’ve done it once.”

“Ah. Yeah, I suppose that is a possibility. Do you want to know what would be different about it this time?”

“What?”

“I won’t stay away this time.  I’ll find you.  I’ll hunt you down if I have to.  And once I find you, I’ll hold you tight until you’re reminded of why we belong together.”

“I’m going to try, Bas.  I’m really going to try.  But I can’t promise that I won’t fuck up.”

Playing Life by V.M. Sanford: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from Playing Life

by V.M. Sanford

Ryan wriggled around, but he couldn’t leave. He wanted to, but he couldn’t do that to Kenny.

Right? Maybe he could make a run for it. Surely, Kenny would understand.

“You’ll be fine,” Kenny said from his favorite armchair.

“I know. It’s not the first time I meet new people.”

Kenny grinned. “Exactly. And they’re my friends, so they’re already vetted as nice people. They’re probably going to spend a lot of time tongue-tied and staring at you.”

“Were you trying to make me feel more comfortable? Because it’s not working.”

Kenny laughed. “I told you, there’s no need to be worried.”

“You just said they were going to stare at me for the entire evening!”

“But you’re used to being stared at.”

“That’s on the ice. This is different.”And not only because Ryan wanted in Kenny’s pants. He liked Kenny, and he wanted them to be friends. Which they kind of were, but meeting Kenny’s friends might confirm that—or break it.

They’d been going along fine since Ryan had moved in with Kenny. Ryan had friends in Sacramento, of course, but he felt closer to Kenny than he did to most of them. Kenny was a family man, a simple man who didn’t care what Ryan did for a living or how much money he had in the bank. That wasn’t something that happened often, and Ryan treasured it.

It felt like they’d known each other for years rather than a few weeks, and Ryan was aware of the way his feelings were already changing—had been changing almost since that first day. He was infatuated, and he didn’t know what to do about it.

That wasn’t true. He did know what to do about it, and that was nothing. He’d keep on being Kenny’s friend, nothing more, and that was why having Kenny’s friends meet him was so important.

What if they hated Ryan? What if they really spent the evening staring at him? Kenny was right, Ryan was used to it, but it was different when he was on the ice. There he had something else to focus on, and he barely even noticed the people watching the game.

There was no way he wouldn’t notice Kenny’s friends staring at him in Kenny’s living room. Hopefully, they’d be focused on the movie Kenny had rented. It was the latest superhero movie, and Ryan hadn’t had the time to watch it yet, so he was looking forward to it. He didn’t often have the opportunity to just relax during the season, and his summers weren’t much slower, what with training and everything. He still had a few years of superhero movies to watch, and Kenny was bent on watching all of them together over the next few weeks.

The doorbell rang. Ryan jerked, making Kenny laugh again. “Relax,”he said as he passed by Ryan to go open the door.

No way was that going to happen. Ryan wanted to make a good impression on the people in Kenny’s life. He thought he’d done a good job with Kenny’s family. They hadn’t kicked him out, which he supposed was a good sign.

Honorary Blogger Davidson King: Why I Wrote… Why I Still Do + Excerpt & Giveaway!

Why I Wrote… Why I Still Do

by Davidson King

I wrote Snow Falling because I dreamed I could. I was told I couldn’t, I was told I wasn’t smart enough, educated enough, I wasn’t capable. So, I wrote it. When I finished and published it, it felt like I was slapping down all the negative people who told me I couldn’t.

Then something happened. I realized I could do it. I was good enough. I had more to say. So, Hug It Out came to be. I loved introducing people to the characters in my head. When that released I held my breath. Was I fooling myself? I wasn’t. People actually liked reading my words. I admit to crying several times out of pure joy and relief. I felt like Sally Field saying, “You like me, you really like me.”

AND THEN something more happened. It became a need. I HAD to write. I had to tell the world about my universe. My characters started screaming, “ME. DO ME NEXT. MY TURN.” When I don’t write it feels like a pressure in my veins. When my fingers move over the keyboard it relieves it.

Writing was a dream I achieved and now I need it. Sometimes I sit and think, “How was I literally living half a life all this time?” At 38 almost 39 I am fulfilling my dream. I am all lit up and living it.

That is why I will write until the voices silence.

Open Season by Susan Stradiotto: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from Open Season

by Susan Stradiotto

Nineteenth Hole

Javine puzzled over why she turned away just as their eyes met. But when she approached Alan, her reasons seemed logical. She was pristine, poised in her golf skirt and collared shirt. He went to the bar, leaned onto his elbows, ordered a Macallan single-malt—neat, and waited. He’d be patient, they’d come his way soon. And they did.

Javine forced himself to not blink against the irritating contacts that bothered his vision. The light surrounding Elle was still there, but muted. It annoyed him to have the acuity blurred, but the obfuscation was necessary. From the time he’d watched her over the years, Javine knew the colors of her glow—the marker that predicted Flare.

“Andre Jordan, I’d like you to meet the new V.P. of Corporate Communication, Elle Jones,” Alan introduced, making the predictable motions from one to the other.

Javine stood straight, scotch in one hand. Though his contacts and glasses obscured her glow, he’d seen the highlights before. Lavender streaks weren’t a foolproof indicator, but he’d come prepared just in case. He offered her a gloved hand. If her Flare turned out to be touch activated, he didn’t want to inadvertently give things away.

“Coming from the range, Mr. Jordan?” Elle asked.

He raised his brows with a single nod to affirm, then said, “Elle, I understand that you come to Travelers from Jewel Systems?”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Jordan.”

“—Andre,” he cut in. “Software to financial services is quite the leap. What made you switch?”

Drive Shaft by Geoffrey Knight: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from Drive Shaft

by Geoffrey Knight

The heat hit well before dawn. It turned the city into a shimmer of mirages the second the sun broke over the horizon.

Inside the Auto Shop, Hutch approached the old cot that Jensen had made his bed, already dressed in his low-hanging coveralls, a coffee mug in hand.

The young Texan was sound asleep on the sagging, springless fold-out bed, naked and snoring, a sheet twisted loosely about his lap, barely covering the erection beneath it. In the depth of slumber he smiled, chuckled once or twice, then his arms and legs twitched and quivered like a puppy dreaming of chasing rabbits across a field of flowers.

The chase ended with a satisfied grin from Hutch—

—and his foot hooking itself under the cot and capsizing it.

Jensen tumbled naked across the floor, startled awake.

Hutch laughed.

“Wake up, snorin’ beauty. Here, this’ll get you started.”

Jensen quickly moved to cover himself with the tangled sheet, then realized there wasn’t anything to hide that Hutch hadn’t already seen. Instead he took the coffee that Hutch offered. “Thanks.”

It was creamy but strong. And hot. Jensen winced at the first sip.

“Careful there. You don’t wanna burn those lips.”

Those lips curled into a smile. “I’ll try not to.”

Hutch turned and walked away then called back over his shoulder, “Why don’t you go wash up before Clyde gets here. Got a lotta work to do today. And one helluva showdown tonight. Winner takes all!”

Yes, Jensen thought to himself as he made his way out back. Tonight was the decider. But exactly what would it decide? The more he got to know Hutch, the more complicated he seemed to be. What exactly were the two of them putting on the line, night after night? And what exactly was the prize?

Out back in the closed yard of the auto shop he stood naked in the morning sun and turned on the hose.

Water splashed and sparkled over his body.

He drenched his face, his chest and legs.

When he wiped the mop of hair out of his eyes, he caught a glimpse of Hutch leaning against the back door of the garage a short distance away.

Watching.

For a moment Hutch didn’t move. Then he pushed himself away from the door to head back inside. As he did so he grunted audibly. Last night’s contortionist act was starting to take its toll.

Jensen let out a sly laugh. “Careful there. You don’t wanna strain that back.”

He heard Hutch mutter, “Shut up,” before his sore legs carried him inside.
