Hazardous Things by Beth Bolden: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from Hazardous Things

by Beth Bolden

“Did you study my post-op instructions?” Max asked, the corner of his mouth quirking up. Max had a beautiful mouth, and a full lower lip that had entranced Felix for years. He still didn’t know why Max insisted on keeping it covered up with facial hair. Maybe he was worried men and women both would never stop throwing themselves at him if he left it bare.

“It’s important to be informed,” Felix said primly. Let Max think he was just being a good friend; even let him think that Felix was doing this because he felt some kind of work obligation. The only thing Max couldn’t think was that Felix was doing this was because he was crazy, head-over-heels, launch-himself-over-a-cliff, in love with him.

“Maybe you should go to law school,” Max suggested, leaning back after he’d chugged half the bottle of water. Felix took it back from him and put it on the table. He’d read the PT instructions three times, he knew exactly what he needed to do, and he fully intended to do it. But Max wasn’t going to like it and Felix cared too much to casually cause him pain.

“Why this obsession with trying to find me a new career?” Felix asked suspiciously. For the last few months, as the tour had wound down, and the members of Star Shadow had begun to wonder what they might do with the yearlong break they’d insisted on, Max had come up with half a dozen career paths that he thought Felix should explore—some serious and some very clearly not serious.

Max shrugged. “I know you hate being bored.”

“I’m not bored,” Felix retorted. “You guys have plenty going on, even when you’re on a ‘break’.”

“Okay, because I’d hate for you to waste your time working for us when you could be doing something amazing with your life.”

Felix stiffened. “Lots of people would assume that working with Star Shadow is plenty amazing.”

“They haven’t met us, obviously,” Max said with a sharp, quicksilver grin. “I know Caleb offered to hire you for his solo stuff, but I think you should hold out. He can be sort of a pain in the ass. A real perfectionist.”

“I hadn’t decided yet,” Felix said. Which was the truth. He hadn’t. He’d been going to Fiji with Leo and Caleb because it was Fiji, not because he had any intention of being at his brother’s boyfriend’s beck and call. The truth was, he knew he’d have his pick of any PA job he wanted during the break. He’d gotten plenty of offers other than Caleb’s. He just hadn’t decided quite yet what he wanted to do. It was nice not to have to worry, because he had money in the bank to pay for his mortgage, and no pressing need to find a new job.

“At least, if you’re going to take it, make him pay you a ton more. Caleb means well, but Caleb’s . . .”

“Believe me, I know what Caleb is and how he works,” Felix said primly. Caleb was one of the nicest people on the planet—steadfast and loyal and true—but also, like Max had said, a massive pain in the ass with his need for everything to be perfect all the time. He hadn’t been so bad before he’d left, but after he’d come back? He was still the same man, but suddenly with a driving, insatiable need for everything to work out just so.

“Not that you couldn’t negotiate anything you wanted,” Max added ruefully.

“Exactly.” Felix hoped his firm tone of voice indicated that the subject was closed. He was here for Max, not for some kind of misguided career counseling. It wasn’t like Max hadn’t done well for himself, but he’d known what he was going to do with his life at the age of sixteen. He gave freaking terrible adulting advice.

Max smirked. “Message received, loud and clear.”

“Good.” Felix cleared his throat. “First, we’re going to bend a little bit, raising and lowering your ankle. Slowly, and just as much as you can. No need to overdo it.”

Max’s glance was swift and apprehensive. “I’m not sure . . .”

“This is good,” Felix soothed. “It helps to make sure clots don’t form. And afterward, we’ll ice you up. It’ll be fine.”

Max gritted his teeth and slowly began to bend his knee, raising his ankle slightly above the large mound of pillows it was currently propped on. “That’s great, you’re doing great,” Felix encouraged as he moved it back down, and then repeated the movement a second time.

“This sucks,” Max said, sweat beading at his hairline. Clearly not from the minimal effort, but from the discomfort.

“Well, yeah, I didn’t think it was going to be a walk in the park,” Felix said, feigning nonchalance, even though he was sweating too, at the thought of the pain Max was in. “Did you?”

When I First Saw Red by Kasia Bacon: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from When I First Saw Red

by Kasia Bacon

A common human. A soldier, gods have mercy, as big and strong as an ox, and likely just as witless. A crass simpleton, with a penchant for violence, perhaps, considering his enormous size and mean countenance to match.

I was doomed.

Black spots danced before my eyes, so I squeezed them shut. Immediately, an image of the man’s powerful arms and broad shoulders assaulted my mind. Seated at the bar, he seemed to own the place, looming over squirrel-sized Ranélle like a thug. A very attractive thug, whose dark and dangerous allure made me hard, wanton and exasperated. All against my will. Lifting my eyelids did nothing to eradicate the memory of his fervid, sooty gaze or his masculine, rough-hewn features. They’d imprinted themselves on the back of my eyeballs.

Oh, he would be back, of that I had no doubt— the hex that had hit me would be affecting him as well. I could’ve done without the irritating excitement that spread tingles across my abdomen. Despite hating the idea of meeting the human, I already longed to see him again.

It felt a little like unfair punishment and a lot like the irony of fate. What could I possibly have in common with a crude army lad? Me, an opposer of the military and everything to do with it? An enthusiast of fine arts, sophisticated conversation, and good wine?

My jaw tightened as a surge of anger jolted through me. Of all the pleasure houses in the Western Empire, why did he have to stumble into mine? Our street alone housed three other brothels, for the gods’ sake. The cheek of him, barging in here, all because he fancied a shag. Without a shred of awareness, he had set in motion something that threatened the way I’d lived and liked my life.

I’d earned my silver by steadily fucking through the upper crust of Nygläär. The nobles honoured my extortionate fees without as much as an arched eyebrow. Did I mind that they made a fetish of my rare background? Did I, fuck. I simply charged an arm and a leg for the privilege of my company. Coin, although essential in providing me with the luxuries I’d grown accustomed to indulging in, wasn’t my sole objective.

My profession complemented my nature. It satisfied the fundamental demand issued by my blood. The unquenchable Incubus in me revelled in carnal pleasure and debauchery. He thrived on promiscuity and seduction, never ceasing to chase after yet another conquest. In plain words— not only did I enjoy fucking, but I had a physical need to frequently engage with multiple partners to keep my demon sated and controlled. And that, in turn, allowed me to remain sane, balanced and relatively content.

The very presence of the brawny soldier downstairs put my hard-won sanity, integrity and contentment in jeopardy. Because the oaf at the bar, currently doing his best to drink himself unconscious, was my soulmate, and my demon wanted to jump his big bones with a vehemence that knocked the wind out of me.

Love in Progress by Logan Grey: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

JAYCE

He’d quickly realized that a night in some stranger’s bed wasn’t anywhere near as satisfying as just being with Blaine. What they had was far more intimate than anything he’d find with a stranger.

Caleb was in the same boat, though whatever reason Jason had for holding back was anyone’s guess. They were clearly meant for each other.

I wonder if people ever think that when they look at Blaine and me?

He glanced at Blaine for a split second before tearing his gaze away. Blaine looked fantastic, even hungover, though his eyes were a little red, probably because he needed more sleep.

Jayce hoped maybe the jealousy Jason had showed, according to Blaine, had resulted in some form of action for Caleb. Then, at least one of them could get what they wanted so desperately.

Unfortunately Jayce couldn’t say the same. So he remained silent and pining. At least until it passed and faded into the back of his mind again.

But the question that persisted deep in his heart was how much longer could he go on until it wasn’t enough?

Surviving the Merge by C.P. Harris + Excerpt & Giveaway!

Surviving the Merge by C.P. Harris

My name is Justin, and when I was seventeen, I fell in love with a boy named Damon.

Damon was sick, only I didn’t know it at the time. And like any disease left untreated, it festered and burrowed into the unaffected areas of us, until we were both so far from healthy, we were killing one another. Then a tragedy sparked our implosion.

With nothing of us remaining to salvage, I was left to pick up the pieces, while Damon found his escape in the abyss. Leaving me alone with Blake.

Damon and Blake are two halves of a whole. But Damon is the coldest part of darkness, and Blake the warmest part of light.

I love Blake with a ferocious intensity akin to the peeling back of skin. But Blake isn’t Damon. And Damon was gone—until now.

What once threatened to tear us apart has become our catharsis.

Outnumbered in the relationship with the man who was my life, I’ve begun to learn more about love than I ever thought possible.

An M/M romance and book one in the Chadwick trilogy.

Can be read as a standalone, but reading in order is recommended as the characters make appearances in all three books. Surviving the Merge contains explicit sex and graphic language.

Author’s note: For those that appreciate warnings, please use the “look inside” feature to find them within the first several pages. Warnings & reader advisory: Surviving the Merge is an M/M romance with adult and, at times, dark themes. It is intended for mature readers. Possible triggering content includes mental illness, rape (off page), codependency, and dubious consent. Surviving the Merge does not contain cheating.

Say You’ll Be Nine by Lucy Lennox: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from Say You’ll Be Nine

by Lucy Lennox

I took a breath and pulled my phone out of my pocket. “Speaking of our relationship. I think we should make our first post right now and get this party started.”

After nudging him back out the door to the RV and into the clearing between the RV and the rubble pile formerly known as a cabin, I positioned him the way I wanted. “Okay, stay right there.”

I turned around and backed up against him until my back rested against his front. His entire body tensed. I leaned my head back against his shoulder and reached for one of his hands to pull it around my waist in an embrace. It was like trying to mold a brick of stubborn ice. “Relax,” I muttered. “I’m not going to take advantage of you.”

“Nfh.”

His grunt made me laugh, so I took the opportunity to capture it on film, clicking my phone while trying to make sure the rubble pile was also in the frame. Even on my small phone screen, I could see Nine’s discomfort.

“Act like you’re not disgusted by me, you oaf.” Now he was starting to piss me off. “This is never going to work if you look like you’d rather be having dental surgery than touching me.”

I felt the warm air of his exhale against the side of my neck seconds before his beard brushed the same spot. He nuzzled into my neck with his beard and his lips, nearly bringing me to my knees with shock and pleasure. I hoped to god that tiny whimper was only in my head.

“You smell like pickles,” he murmured against my neck. “I like pickles.”

My breathing came in short, shallow pulls as his arm tightened around my middle and the bulky fly of his jeans brushed against my ass.

Oh dear god.

“Me too,” I breathed.

“You too what?” he asked.

“Like pickles. A lot.” I closed my eyes and begged for strength. “A lot, a lot. Like… a lot.”

What was I even talking about right now?

The deep rumble of his laughter vibrated against my back just before he stepped away and turned to walk toward the rubble. “I think you got enough shots for now. Let’s see what we’ve got.”

I watched the round globes of his ass being lovingly attended to by those jeans as he walked away. He’d stripped off the flannel, leaving only the tight, white undershirt. It highlighted the massively wide shoulders and every rounded muscle in his back leading down to his narrow waist and championship ass. The man was god’s definition of masculine perfection.

Okay, he was at least my definition of it. I couldn’t look away. My dick was as hard as the sturdy pine trees at the edge of the forest.

His gruff voice snapped me out of my lumberjack fantasy. “Stop staring at my ass, and get over here with that camera.”

“I was only looking at your ass because you sat in something brown,” I said. “Looks like you shat yourself. It’s disgusting.”

He looked back over his shoulder to see if I was joking. And that’s when it happened.

Nine’s eyes traveled down my body like the hands of an attentive lover before landing on my dick and staying there for a long moment. When his eyes moved back up to meet mine, they were filled with undeniable heat. I couldn’t breathe. My throat had turned to dust, and my heart didn’t know how to beat. What the fuck was happening?

“Based on the state of your blue jeans,” he drawled, “I don’t think you find me disgusting at all. Now get your ass over here and start taking pictures. Sweetie.

Always You by Nell Iris: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from Always You

by Nell Iris

I stiffen, waiting for Lee to say something, but he doesn’t. He pads across the floor and then my mattress dips and he shuffles close. Close enough for me to feel his warmth through the sheet but not enough for our bodies to touch. Carefully, he pulls down the cover from my head.

“You’re going to suffocate under there,” he murmurs and presses his palm against my back, right between my shoulder blades.

We lie in silence for a while. The sounds of his breath and the warmth of his hand relaxes me for the first time since yesterday and I sink into the mattress, reveling in the fact that the quiet between us is as comfortable as ever despite the awkward conversation we just suffered through.

“I forgot to ask if you’re okay,” I whisper after several minutes. “About Debora, I mean. I didn’t mean to rant at you like that. I’m sorry. I’m a terrible friend.”

“Shut up,” he says without heat. “You’re not a terrible friend. You were busy looking out for me, just like you always are.”

“I just—” A light pat on my back stops my words.

“Let me talk, please?”

I hum my agreement.

“To answer your question first: yes, I’m okay. I should have ended things between us a long time ago, but I got comfortable. And she’s a nice person. Funny to hang out with. So I thought, ‘so what if I’m not head over heels?’ I’ve never been anyway. But yeah. She saved me the trouble of ending it. I was relieved.” He scoots a little closer and moves his hand from my back to my upper arm, giving it a squeeze. “It was the reason she ended it that shook me.”

“I understand. Being told you’re gay and that your best friend has feelings for you must be a shock.”

“Yes. But not for the reasons you think. Only because I didn’t think you want a relationship.”

“I don’t follow.”

“Every time I asked why you’re single, why you never have a boyfriend, you were adamant you didn’t want a relationship. That you liked being by yourself and able to do what you want.”

What was I supposed to say? I don’t want a boyfriend because it can’t be you? I don’t think so. “Yeah,” I say.

“But that’s not the real reason, is it?”

My throat is dry and I’m certain I won’t be able to produce a sound, so I shake my head.

He hums and scoots even closer to me, his chest brushing against my back, his body curling around mine without really touching, his hand sliding down to my waist, and then coming to rest on my belly. He’s so warm; he’s leaving little trails of fire in his wake, even through layers of clothing and bed linen, and I gasp.

“What are you doing, Lee?”

Iblīs’ Affliction by Nero Seal: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from Iblīs’ Affliction

by Nero Seal

“I can smell your hatred in the air. Hate fucks are the best, aren’t they? Master was so good, so passionate.” Slater’s hand stepped forward. “Did Master feel good?”

“Stay where you are,” Talha warned, rubbing his temples with his fingers, thick veins pulsing under his tips.

I should kill him. His gaze shot up and fixed on the top drawer of his nightstand where he kept his gun; too far to get there fast.

“Huh? Master is looking for a gun…” Slater didn’t ask but stated, and Talha dragged his attention upon the ripper.

Slater’s forehead wrinkled as a serious expression crawled up his face. The demonic look of his right eye shot through Talha’s defense. The black hole of Slater’s dilated pupil sucked out his soul, and Talha realized—there was no point in lying. Slater already knew everything.

“What, did I say it out loud?”

“Master is funny. So honest.” Slater’s head snapped to the side as a wide grin settled over his face. “Slater made a decision. The trial period is over, Master.”

Slater’s hand followed the zigzag of his right leg and drew out the black throwing knife from the top of his boot. Talha’s vision focused on the light-absorbing, matte surface, then jumped to the twist of Slater’s raw lips.

Is this how I’m gonna die? Talha couldn’t tell if it was cannabis that shushed his fear, or if he was too exhausted to care, but his heart didn’t halt when the blade reached his chest and stopped at the notch of his throat.

Slapping Slater’s hand away with a careless gesture, Talha said, “If you intend to use it—do it, but don’t make empty threats or I’ll think you are pathetic.”

Slater’s single-visible eye blazed with curiosity. “What do I do? I really like Master, but Master wants to kill Slater. That won’t do…”

The smile dimmed, and his canine tooth sank into his puffy bottom lip.

“Here you go, Master. Let’s settle it.” Flipping the knife in his palm, Slater offered it to Talha haft forward. Talha didn’t take it, and Slater’s scorching fingers clasped around his hand, shoving the warm metal into his palm. Curling Talha’s fingers in a fist, Slater guided the knife up to his own throat. “Do it…”

The edge of the knife scratched Slater’s throat, as the reaper drew it up and outlined his chin, a red trail stretching behind. His lips parted, and his pink tongue, slipping out, flicked over the blade as it leveled with his lips. Body heat rising, Talha watched Slater’s tongue curl around the edge. Killing Slater now would be so easy. He just had to sink the knife into the willing mouth, and Slater would choke on blood. All his problems would be solved. There would be no murders in his house. No one would watch him sleep, get into his bed, or threaten Ejder. No one would get Iblīs either. His life would return to normal. Then why was he wavering? Slater couldn’t be controlled, couldn’t be reasoned with. He was a ticking time bomb with a broken timer, but even knowing it, Talha couldn’t drive the knife in Slater’s mouth. He wasn’t’ sure what drained his anger but scanning the transparent eye, that glowed with determination and hope, he felt no hatred only crushing weariness.

I don’t get him… He tried to kill me not long ago, now he offers me his life. He’s unstable and should be put down, then why can’t I kill him? That would solve my problem. That would solve Ejder’s problem. Maybe it would even solve Slater’s problem, but how can I kill him when he does something like this?

Never dropping his focus from Talha, Slater licked the edge of the knife, and blood mixed with saliva. Talha cringed.

“What the fuck are you doing? Stop!” He tried to release his fingers, but Slater’s hands clasped around his palm, guiding the blade deeper into his tongue.

Without thinking, Talha thrust his other thumb into Slater’s mouth, sliding it under the blade, over the tongue, and hissed as the knife bit into his knuckle.

The smile evaporated from Slater’s face, giving way to a weird, unreadable expression. His fingers released Talha’s armed hand, then clasped over the other, and rapacious lips closed around the thumb. The lacerated tongue lapped over Talha’s skin, mixing their blood. A heavy pink touched Slater’s cheeks, dropping the eyelid of his healthy eye closed, as he craned his neck lavishing Talha’s digit with his eager mouth.

“Huh? Isn’t that funny? Now we are blood-bound, Master.”

Four years ago, I met Liam Holdsworthy.
Hot, snarky, and hiding behind a sadness I couldn’t place. I wanted him, even back then. There were only two problems.
One, I was deeply closeted.
And two, he was dating my best friend.
Now I’m retired from the NFL and openly out, there’s nothing to stop me from getting my gay on.
When Liam comes back into my life, and I find out he’s single, I’ll find any reason to spend time with him. That’s how I created a list of gay first experiences I coax him into helping me with.
But I don’t just want his help.
I still want him.

Liam
After leaving a long-term relationship with a closeted NFL player, I went through a string of guys trying to find the one. None of them were boyfriend material, let alone the forever type.
I’m looking for a guy to come home to. Someone serious and down to earth.
I’m definitely not looking for Cooper Zane.
Yet, I can’t shake him, and not only because I’m helping him with his big bi bucket list. Every time I see him is like a shot of adrenaline to my system, and I’m always left wanting more.
I need Mr. Serious, and Cooper’s the least serious person I’ve met.
He’s newly out.
He’s never had a relationship.
And most importantly, he may be retired, but he’s not done with football.
He’ll do anything to get it all back. And I’m not prepared to be relegated to the sidelines ever again.
