Exclusive Excerpt from The Selkie Prince’s Forbidden Mate

by J.J. Masters

Nic steered his boat out toward the open water of the Atlantic, or what the Selkies called the Great Sea. While it was rough this morning, he welcomed the jarring waves. It reminded him how powerful the ocean could be. It would calm once the winds died down. He had dropped a string of lobster pots on the way out and would be back out tomorrow to pick them up once they had time to “soak.” He had another string he needed to pull this morning, but he also needed to spend some time net fishing, so he could pay some bills once he sold his catch. But before heading back, he would take a head-clearing swim.

Or maybe he’d take his swim first…

He understood exactly what Marlin meant when he said swimming felt like freedom. Nic felt the same way and enjoyed being in the water just as much.

A soothing swim was needed especially after waking this morning to find his bed empty next to him. The prince had snuck out sometime in the early morning hours, though he’d left a note. One that simply read, “Thank you. ~ M.”

Thank you.

For what?

Maybe he should be thanking Marlin instead. He had gone through a gamut of emotions that day a few years ago when he came across Kai and Luca outside of Meesha’s house. Seeing the male he loved with another had been utterly…

Heartbreaking.

Nic had told himself time and time again not to fall in love with Kai. That Nic was only a means to an end when it came to the eldest son of King Solomon. That Kai had traditions he was obligated to follow as a Selkie prince and heir to the throne. But no matter what, he couldn’t help falling for his tall, dark and handsome lover.

He knew Kai would eventually find his omega, his fated mate. But he had hoped Kai would continue to visit him afterward, to continue their relationship whether he had a mate or not. Was that selfish of him to wish that Kai wouldn’t be satisfied with Luca?

Sure.

But he had still hoped.

Though, he should have known better because during their time together, the prince never stayed long in Nic’s bed. Kai didn’t linger, he didn’t spend a lot of time cuddling or talking after sex. He never promised Nic anything.

Still, Nic hated to admit that. He had always wished and dreamed that Kai would say to hell with all his obligations and take Nic as his life-mate.

But that was just plain foolishness. He knew it now. Luca was perfect for Kai, though Nic hated to admit that, as well. He still found it a struggle to be happy for the couple.

Over the years that bitterness dulled, and he’d taken others as lovers, including some hybrids, but none ever compared to Kai. There was something about an alpha Selkie male that scratched Nic’s itch.

Unfortunately, Marlin also knew just where to scratch. It was dangerous getting involved with the younger brother of Kai. He knew in the end he’d end up hurt and disappointed once more. Their spending time together would never result in a happily ever after.

It couldn’t. No, the sons of King Solomon could only bond with their fated mates. Or at least an approved omega the Selkie Seekers presented if their fated mate couldn’t be found.

Nic would never be in either category. So, if he was going to allow Marlin to keep coming to his cabin, to keep spending the night like they had discussed during the many times they had rutted—as Marlin liked to call it— last night, he would have to keep any emotional ties out of it. He would have to keep it “just sex.”

Unfortunately, he wasn’t sure if he could do that.

The Selkie Prince’s Unexpected Omega by J.J. Masters: Exclusive Excerpt!

Exclusive Excerpt from The Selkie Prince’s Unexpected Omega

by J.J. Masters

Zale studied the sleeping omega. His dark blond hair was plastered to his forehead, his skin was a bit paler than normal, his breathing soft and steady as he slept.

Finn was no longer in oestrus, thank Poseidon.

That could only mean one of two things. Either Finn was pregnant or his heat cycle had run its course.

While three days was typical for a cycle, sometimes they’d last for five. Luca’s went a little longer in the beginning when he first went off heat suppressants since it had messed with his cycle.

But this omega obviously hadn’t been on heat suppressants. Which was just crazy. What omega thought it smart to live in a residence full of alphas and not be on heat suppressants?

Maybe his father hadn’t allowed it.

His father.

Zale and his other brothers had suspected King Solomon had only kept Finn around for his own selfish needs. To take a sixth omega and to whelp a sixth alpha pup. But he never did. Or at least Zale didn’t think he’d tried.

Maybe Finn had turned him down.

No, if Finn had refused the king’s offer, he would have been sent away. The king would have no reason to keep him in the castle, or even in the colony, any longer. So why did his father keep the omega around?

Maybe Finn knew. He’d have to ask him when the omega woke up.

But right now, Finn’s face was relaxed and Zale wasn’t going to wake the poor, exhausted male.

He needed to extract himself from this bed, which was a disaster area, and head back to his own quarters to shower. He was sure Jordan, his beta servant, was fretting about his sudden disappearance. Possibly even had his brothers out searching for him.

Zale sat up and dropped his legs over the edge of the bed. He grimaced when he noticed just how much he needed that shower. Cum, slick, and who knew what else was dried and caked to his skin.

Rutting during oestrus was not only a messy activity but not an enjoyable one. Which was a shame since he’d never had an omega before, a male who could produce slick. He’d only had humans and betas with whom a manmade lubricant needed to be used.

He glanced over his shoulder and noticed Finn was now awake, his stunning green eyes pinned on him. The omega reached blindly for the top sheet to cover himself, but it was balled up into a damp, wrinkled mess on the floor.

“No point in covering yourself from me now, Finn. It’s not like I haven’t seen every crack and crevice. At this point, I probably know your body better than you do.”

And what a body that was. Zale had to admit the omega’s lean muscular physique was more than appealing to him. With those green eyes, high cheekbones and his blond hair on the longer side, Zale found Finn very attractive.

The Selkie Prince’s Fated Mate by J.J. Masters: Exclusive Excerpt!

Kai cupped Luca’s cheeks for a moment then forced himself to move away once again, berating himself for being so weak.

He never hated being a prince more than at that moment. If they had been Selkies of the common kind, just any alpha and omega, they would have had the bonding ceremony immediately and mated already. No fuss, no muss.

He glanced at his watch and groaned silently. After Vin had escorted Luca back to Kai’s quarters, Douglass had rushed into the dining hall announcing that everything was set for the bonding ceremony which would begin promptly at eight.

Eight.

It was only seven-thirty and Kai didn’t know how he would be able to resist his leaking omega for another thirty minutes. Maybe he should leave and go walk around the compound. Inhale some fresh sea air. Take a quick dip in the frigid November surf.

But he couldn’t leave. He couldn’t. Something pulled at him to remain by his omega’s side, to protect him, to make sure Luca was not left alone near any other alphas, including his brothers, until he was fully marked and claimed.

“Why can’t I…” Kai frowned. “Quit you?”

Luca made a noise that sounded like a laugh and cocked a brow in Kai’s direction. “Why can’t you quit me?”

His omega laughed at him, which made Kai’s frown deepen. He hadn’t meant for that question to slip out, but his mind had turned to mush.

“Is that a Brokeback Mountain reference?”

Kai sighed and rolled his eyes toward the ceiling. “Maybe.”

Luca grinned. “Did that movie make you cry, too?”

“Mmm,” Kai murmured.

Luca’s laughter sounded like music to Kai’s ears. Curse the sea gods, he was truly becoming infatuated with the male.

“Wow. Who would have thought that my alpha bull would be such a softie?”

Kai pinned his gaze on Luca. “That doesn’t leave this room,” he growled.

“And if it does? Then what?”

“Then your ‘bull’ will see red and your ass will match it.” Bloody hell, he hadn’t meant for that to slip out either.

“Hmm. Tempting.” Luca grinned again. “So, it’s nice to hear even royalty watches movies like us common folk. Do you have a Redbox in some corner of this kingdom?”

“No. It’s called Netflix.”

Ah. Even better. Like to Netflix and chill, my bull?”

My bull. The male before him was certainly insolent. Kai raised his brows. “Do you?”

Luca lifted one shoulder lazily as he answered, “Never had a mate before.”

Of course not. But that didn’t mean he was a virgin. “But you’ve had lovers.” Kai didn’t make that a question on purpose. But he definitely wanted an answer.

“Have you?”

Touché.

Kai tilted his head and studied his fated mate. “Mmm. Yes.”

“Other omegas?”

Kai did not need to answer any of Luca’s questions. He was the alpha here. He was a prince. But he did have to live with him for the rest of his life. Technically. So it wouldn’t hurt to “bond” with him more than sexually, especially before the ceremony. “No, never other omegas. I couldn’t risk sending an omega into heat.”

“Fearful of whelping a bastard pup? Or two?”

“No. Fearful of being stuck with someone who wasn’t the one.”

Luca’s eyebrows rose in question. “The one?”

Yes, the one who smells as sweet and alluring as you.“My mate.”

“Me,” Luca stated.

“Yes, you,” Kai confirmed.
